NuPhy Air75: The Almost Perfect Low-Profile Mechanical Keyboard | Review, Typing Sounds

- Опубліковано 24 чер 2024
- I've been using the NuPhy Air75 for the past 3 weeks now, working with it on a daily basis, playing games, editing videos and while I still think it looks fantastic, I’m also glad to finally send it back, because, for me, this low-profile mechanical keyboard just isn’t the right choice.
But it might be for you!

Hey everyone! 🙂
NuPhy reached out to me after the video started to do really well, which is all thanks to you! They also gave me a *5% code* you can use if you do choose to get an Air75, or anything else from their store. So *use the code "cheese" when you checkout* for a discount.
Also, I've updated my links in the description to affiliate ones, you won't pay anything extra, but I do get a commission from every purchase, which I am incredibly grateful for 😊
Also, a lot of you have been asking what game I'm playing at around 1:30, it's called Terra Nil and you can get the demo on Steam right now: store.steampowered.com/app/1593030/Terra_Nil/
If you wanna know more about it, you can also watch a video I made about it here: ua-cam.com/video/AeeErMFujdw/v-deo.html
Thanks for the opportunity! One question: where can one find MT3 keycaps? It looks impossible to find them as a newbie.
This is great, it makes the UK shipping a little easier to take.
What was the game you were playing at 1:33?
The screws they used are called self-tapping screws. They are like tiny drills that create threads as they are screwed in. These are typically used to save cost on injection molded plastic parts. They are fine as long as you don't plan to take it apart after installation. Frequent undoing of the screws can lead to a failed screw hole. This is fine for most consumer electronics. But if they have frequent modding and repair in mind they should go for threaded inserts, though at a higher cost.
I was suspecting this, thanks for clearing/confirming it 🙂
Is there a way to mod these screw brackets for peace of mind?
@@PasserbyP if you are careful you can take it apart and put it back once or twice without any problems. It is only necessary if you want to fix it though. If that’s the battery you will only need to do that after at least 2 years of use. And adding metal threading to the existing holes will be very tricky.
@@cucumberworks woah i wish i knew where to start seems like something i wud be interested in.
@Cucumberworks is correct on all counts but I'd like to add that self-tapping or thread-forming screws are usually not intended to make their own hole; they are meant to be driven into a pilot hole that is slightly undersized. The screw threads cut new threads into the wall of the pilot hole.
Also, if you stripped a few of the screw heads it's possible you're using the wrong screwdriver. It's common to think that if the driver *can* turn the screw then it's good fit, but Phillips screwdrivers come in a bunch of sizes and only the *correct* size is a *correct* fit. Going up or down a tip size is more likely to lead to stripped screw heads. There are also JIS screws and screwdrivers which look very similar to Phillips but are not interchangeable.
It seems that we, the consumers are thinking in terms of how many times we can replace the battery to maintain the product for many years. The manufacturer is probably thinking the battery will exceed the product warranty period, and therefore the case screws are a non-issue (for them).
Dude, your channel is pure gold, amazing quality of content, and everything else is perfect. Keep it up and I won't be surprised to see your channel with 10 mil subs 🙌
Thank you, much appreciated! 😀
Really enjoyed this review and your thoughts. Very clear, concise and helpful and love the production quality
Thanks so much!
i just got this keyboard about a week ago, I am in love with it. This is my new fav keyboard of all time.
Just came across this video/your channel. Great quality content especially for someone like me who is just getting more into the mechanical keyboard space after using almost exclusively laptops for the last few years. Always had membrane keyboards prior to that + a hand-me-down Corsair mechanical gaming keyboard. Subscribed and looking forward to your future content.
Just ordered. Thanks for the discount code. I'll post here again once I've driven it a bit.
Dude I cant thank you enough for making this video. I've been looking for a new keyboard for years and despite this ones issues (the keycaps are going to drive my OCD insane) it's perfect. Just ordered one and subscribed.
Thank you! 😀
intro was magical and overall the video was great. tysm king
Your attention to detail is magnificent. I really appreciate that you call out small nits that I would eventually notice. First time I've seen your content, instant sub
Thank you and welcome! 🙂
You are awesome. I found your video because I was trying to figure out why my keyboard couldn’t connect wirelessly. When you first showed the visual, I realized my right hand side control and function keys had been switched. Swapped them out, and all is well. Thank you!
Such a concise review, helped me decide to buy even though it wasn't for you. Really appreciate the detail, next level breakdown (to the screw), and offering a personal opinion but still remaining neutral. We need more content like this. Very helpful, hitting subscribe!
Thank you so much! 🙇
Prod quality and structure is superb! Subbed!
Thank you! 🙂
Delightful review! So honest and well paced! Great job!
Thank you, glad you liked it! 🙂
Excellent format and prod quality. Subbed!
I really appreciate how much depth you went into with regards to the quality of the board and the compromises of the board. The magnet design of the feet and the unfinished quality feel really helped me make a decision with regards to the board. On paper and on screen it looks like it ticks all the boxes, so your thoughts have been invaluable. Thank you!
Hot damn, this video's production and editing it top notch
fantastic review and honestly I enjoyed the presentation and delivery so much that I subscribed as soon as the video was winding down. Was very comprehensive so I hope you get the attention you deserve on this channel
Awesome, thank you!
i like how you digged deep and mentioned that they used the wrong screws. good job!
Compact enough to be carried around a bag, good quality stock keycaps, different colorways with accent keys. This board feels like a Keychron afterthought.
Good review bro, would agree on most of those cons you shared. i still have to try mine though. Lets see in a frw weeks
Holy shit you only have 2k subs. I felt like I was watching someone with 1 million+ please keep up the great work. Looking forward to following you in your content creation journey!
Ok I've subbed. Great review, this is a first for me. Watched the entire keyboard review and actually enjoyed the commentary.
Awesome, thank you!
Your review was very detailed and honest that I am subscribing. Thank you!
Thank you for subscribing! 😀
@@CheeseTurbulence I liked that you talked about repairability; Louis Rossman would be proud lol
You made me love it to hate it a few minutes after. THAT is what I call POWER! Good job and really good review! Thank you
Great Video Production. Really Loved the video. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
For windows, nuphy has released a beta software for customising the lighting and remapping keys and creating macros. Also, the screenshot button works perfectly for me on windows
After seeing so many ads on Instagram for this keyboard, I’ve been looking at a few reviews of this and other mech keyboards this evening. You finally tipped me over the edge.
Thanks for the review. Hope that code still works!
It should and thanks for using it! 🙂
Great review! You've pointed out many useful point to improve the product. Thank you so much.
Thank you! 😄
Production quality is so good that I’m amazed at how much in need the UA-cam algorithms are of change. I hope you hit 1 million in like a year. I have never subbed to UA-camrs with less than 100k but u r different. Keep up the work
Thank you so much! I'll do my best to continue like this, looking forward to what 2022 will bring 😄
Okay someone needs to explain to me how this channel is so small. This definitely is one of the better channels I've seen in regards to quality and especially visual quality. Really enjoyed the video :)
Much appropriated, thank you! 🙂
Agreed! Was looking for reviews of this board and found this channel. Amazing video. Well presented and honestly, it’s just a matter of time before it grows.
Well, typically when a creator starts out, theres a period of time while they may be making great content, however due to the youtube algorithm they may have not been promoted accurately. It could be something as small as not optimizing the thumbnail image or captoon. Eventually they make enough small tweaks as they continue making content, it creates a snowball effect and they ultimately gain additional subscribers.
Give it time. Everyone starts somewhere. This channel will get its big break in due time, provided the quality stays high.
no one owes you an explaination
I enjoy watching your videos a lot, the quality and commentary really makes me wonder why you're still so small, relativly speaking. Hopefully the algorithm will bless you soon. Keep on doing your thing!
Thanks for watching again! I appreciate it at lot 🙂
I have the blue switches and they are so satisfying. More quiet than normal blue switch keyboards. Way more subtle.
7 seconds in and the video's already hilarious, that might be the fastest I've ever subbed to a channel! Great review :D
Upvoted for touching every point with honesty and not just being honest and sugarcoat the rest.
Wonder presentation. And some clever inserts, like Smithers and the boss. Very thorough.
Thank you for explaining how the weird keys at the top right (mis)behave.
So many reviewers talking about switches and so few seem to actually test the available functionality. I prefer my keyboards with useful keys, not useless ones...
Those screws are of self-tapping type. You still need a hole though. Mine didn't come in too banged up, but the shipping package from Nuphy is just a thin bubblewrap bag instead of a proper padded box. Great review btw
Damn first video of yours I've ever watched, really like your style and clean editing. Defo subbing
Great review!
Fantastic review of the NuPhy75. Have been looking at this keyboard. A keyboard "tragic".
Appreciate your honest insight into the 75.
Thanks man! Negative or not the truth is hard to swallow no matter the subject it describes. Thank you one more time, you have confirmed by guesses.
Just Subscribed! UA-cam recommend this to me and its WORTH it!
Love your Videos! Great done. ;)
i've seen this keyboard advertised a lot on my social media and i really liked the look of it but the negatives you've mentioned are pretty much the reason why i won't be purchasing it. i'll be keeping an eye on nuphy, hopefully they come up with something even better in the future.
this video was arguably the best keyboard review ever.
7:15 Awesome review thank you so much! Regarding the flickering LEDs, try lowering your shutterspeed (and compensate the exposure by lowering ISO / increasing aperture) I don't know if your camera allows for this though, but thought I'd mention it in case it helps! Thanks again! 💙
Thank you! and also thanks for the tip regarding the LEDs, I tried it on my current video I'm working on and it looks a lot better although I couldn't completely get rid of it. But it definitely helped a lot, thanks again! 🙂
@@CheeseTurbulence Oh thanks so much for your replies! I'm glad that it was able to help you! I'm looking forward to your upcoming vids! Thanks again! 💙
Best review I’ve seen in a while for anything. Keep it up and keep the negativity cause that’s what an honest review is all about
Thanks so much! 🙂
the video is so very well produced
Great review ! Sad to see you can't disassemble the PCB but it feels like a great product overall
Great review. Very detailed. And great critique, definitely they have to work on these small issues. Then it truly will be an amazing keyboard
You just gained a new subscriber
Great editing on that intro!
Thanks! 😅
I love the look of the F1. great review!
Thank you!
This is so funny! Good job!
Thank you! 😀
Really good review tbh. 👍🏻
I used the promo code to buy the Air75 V2 a couple months ago and this review of the original was very useful. It's been my daily driver atop my M2 MacBook and it's a seriously nice keyboard for working from home or as a digital nomad
Thank you for that! 🙂
i def need this.
btw really good vid, made me also laugh sometimes! i hope you get more popularity, you totally deserve it!!
Thank you! 😄
Wow, I want this keyboard now. I’ve been using the iPad as my primary writing device, but with the Apple keyboard cover. I’ve gotten used to it, but I messed around and went into Bestbuy to touch on some boards and it completely reset my fingers. You make some great points about the build, however. It’s a bit of a problem, but I’d like to see it in person to see if it’s an issue that I’d realistically get bothered by in day to day use.
Great design 😍😍😍
What a beautiful intro and curated video. How are you not at 1M+ subs. Keep up the good work.
Ps: really liked the intro music can you identify which one it is?
It’s called “I Don’t Mind” by Particle House: ua-cam.com/video/DUS8B0z5jKw/v-deo.html 🙂
Thank you so much for such a detailed review! I was about to get one, but those minor quality issues, like the rattling, would have driven me crazy. Like you, I cannot unsee the inconsistent printing of the letters on the caps. I prefer to avoid replacing them--little time, so I'm looking for a solid, fully assembled keyboard.
Thank you! 🙂
Enjoying your content before you hit 1000 subs. This is good
Thank you 🙂
Hearing goofy's yell made me laugh so hard. This was a great start to my day.
This is such a great video
Thank you 🙇
Great keyboard, if this thing was available in an iso version, I would instantly buy it.
Then you so much!
Awesome video 💯
Just bought the keyboard. I love low profile keyboards.
wow that actually looks perfect. I hoope they do a reduex of this
I've been using the Logi G815/915 for around a year now. Incredible keyboard (but super overprice). I really prefer the low profile though, to me it feels more fluid and less "typerwriter-y", if that makes sense. Great vid though!
What is that game in knock knock part (after intro)
damn, I never thought that keyboard review would be this deep. Thats a complete autopsy
I LOVE the fact that you are so nitpicking, subbed! What is your fav board? I feel like I can just safely buy whatever you prefer and save me the trouble of doing extra research LOL
What monitor + stand are you using? Interesting placement, would love a desk tour!
It's an LG CX48, which is actually a TV. I use a monitor arm to hold it up, there's a great video from David Zhang about it: ua-cam.com/video/AhV09HD7Ee0/v-deo.html
Regarding the desk tour, I'll put it on my video to-do list 🙂
Thank you!
ahaha I like your reviews!!
I love the looks of it, and I love low profile keyboards. I hope they make an ISO version of the AIR 75
exactly my thoughts! numpad pl0x!
Yep people of the Earth deserve some decent wireless low profile keyboard equipped with a numpad.
Same thoughts here, impossible to find a decent keyboard with ISO Spanish version (even more impossible for a 96% keyboard format)
@@yosolonopuedo I got the regular gmmk tkl a while ago.
It's nice, though you can still see the switches pretty well. I prefer boards that are more recessed where you don't see them. Looks cleaner imo.
I like that they put the delete button in the right position, top right, unlike Keychron, but they went ahead and put the Fn key on the right hand side instead of the left, between Ctrl and Win keys, where it should be.
BT + 2.4GHz is a great idea!
Finally, I wish more keyboards had "Sleep" shortcut key. It's underrated in its usefulness. I have a B.O.W HW086 keyboard and it has a sleep shortcut on the F10 key. It's my most used shortcut. Super useful!
You, a Windows user, live without a Left Alt key?!
So no left handed alt tab... do you switch apps with Windows key + number row? Or pressing Win+Tab for task view? Or just clicking the taskbar?
My first mech came with a feature to rebind caps lock to Fn. I have never looked back! IMO it's kind of silly that caps lock is such a prominent key, considering how niche the use case is for most users.
@@noaag Perhaps I did not explain it clearly enough. I would like the left side to be: Ctrl-Fn-Win-Alt. And right side to be: Alt-Ctrl.
@@georget10i my laptop has the setup you describe and it's rather convenient
@@noaag Yes! That's the layout I would like, except with mechanical keys
Awesome video!
Thank you! 🙂
The Led's flashing is from natively recording at a high frame rate depends on the Hz of the Led's but usually 60 to 50 Fps syncs with them while lower or higher causes issues. Also you haft to fix this on the recording end not post.
This is an incredibly well-done video! And what game were you playing? Would you recommend it? I liked the color palette of it.
Thank you! 🙂
It's called Terra Nil and you can get the demo on Steam right now: store.steampowered.com/app/1593030/Terra_Nil/
I would highly recommend it, I even made a video about it: ua-cam.com/video/AeeErMFujdw/v-deo.html 😅
Love your review! Is the typing sound quieter than normal profile mechanical keyboard? I’m considering this keyboard for my office use (very quiet office). Thanks!
Yes, I would say for sure. Especially if you compare it to an "untreated" board without lube and modifications.
very good video my friend - thanks
Great video as always! What wireless charger is that sitting on your desk?
Thanks! It's the "Wireless Block Charger" from Native Union, unfortunately, don't make it anymore but it was a collaboration with Tom Dixon. There were some units available a couple weeks back but it looks like it's sold out there as well...
Here is the product page for reference: www.nativeunion.com/pages/tom-dixon-x-native-union
Nice vid! also can you tell me where you got the inductive charging/ tray station? love the tech showing design
Thank yoou! It's from Native Union and called the "Block Wireless Charger": www.nativeunion.com/products/block-wireless-charger 🙂
But it's sold out these days, you could get it from Tom Dixon a while back but I think it might be gone now 😔
the intro alone catches me haha
The numbers, Mason!
Superb intro
Excellent review man, I loved the concept but I agree with the issues of the keyboard
To be perfect need to add spaces between every four Fx and make spase much more narrow (to be available to press ctrl, alt, win by thumb)
Wow 5 sides dye-sub! They look pretty good in the video. I suspect because of the low profile keycaps, the vacuum suction machine wasn't able to centre the keycaps as well as in the normal cherry/OEM profile keycaps, maybe if they mounted them on something to make them the same height as the OEM keycaps, the alignment might be better. So tempted to go wild and make my own set of keycaps. I think is less than $50 USD for a 108 fully custom made set.
Try playing with your shutterspeed to get rid of the flickering. Most editing programs also have flicker removal tools.
Flickering appears when frequency of alternating current (AC) in your country is different from camera's frame rate.
If it's 50Hz and you're shooting indoors, then you have to use 25 or 50 frames per second (PAL) while shooting video and use 1/50 or 1/100 shutter speed accordingly.
If it's 60Hz, then use 30 or 60 fps (NTSC) and 1/60 and 1/120 shutter speed.
@@paul_serov In an ideal world, yes. But you’ve clearly never worked in actual video production.
In reality, flicker can still happen even if you’re using what should be the correct shutter speed.
That’s why modern cameras have highly adjustable variable shutter speeds so you can dial it in just right, and why if you can’t get that to work, it’s best to fix it in post.
Also, being indoors or outdoors has nothing to do with it.
@@joelmulder, I didn't work in big video production, but I'm photographer and shooting ads videos for my blog so I have experience.
Yeah, it's ideal, but if you break these basic rules, you'll get flicker guaranteed.
Cameras have flicker reduction and you have post-processing to remove it, but as always you have to set up things properly in the beginning.
It has everything to do with that 🙂
If there is no artificial light powered on AC, there will be no flickering problems.
So...
@@paul_serov I for one do work in video production as a cinematographer, which means I'm the one who responsible for the lighting looking good.
And can tell you from experience, lights don't always flicker exactly with the frequency of the mains.
LEDs emit light at a relatively wide range of frequencies.
Typical household lights operate anywhere from 50 to 90 hertz, but the range can be much wider depending on the quality of the lights. Don't get me started on the LEDs that're in displays and such.
I'll say it again, the real world is rarely as simple as. we're often taught it is.
how do you only have 6k subs you make amazing videos
Working on it! 😅
ps: thanks so much 🙂
I am regretting "upgrading" from my 60%. It's so nice and clean to have 4x 1.5u's in the lower right instead of the clusterf%ck that is 75%.
My dream board would have compact arrow keys and numpad, on the left side, so I can use the extra buttons and keep mousing with my right hand. Only thing that's really come close is Candybar Lefty.
I have the ait 75, didnt suffer any of the things you didn't like. Magnets dont rattle, switches never popped off. BUT the right side shift is smaller and that kills me. its probably tipical for keyboards of this size but i would have preferred anything else to give me a full sized shift.
Nice content... Question what's your TV that you use.?
Thank you! 🙂 The TV is an LG CX 48"
Nice review! What's your keyboard and key cap set from 0:52 - 0:58? It looks really nice and it looks like a wireless keyboard as well.
It's the DROP + MATT3O /DEV/TTY MT3 set, you can get them here: geni.us/DstDsFs 🙂
Oh and the board is the Keychron K6, I also did a video on that 😛: ua-cam.com/video/Fcei0-yOa20/v-deo.html
Nice Video! Cool work :-) Thanks for this review!
What camera monitor do you use at 2:19?
Thank you! 🙇 That's actually an iPad Mini using the Accsoon CineEye: kit.co/CheeseTurbulence/youtube-production/accsoon-cineeye-vide 🙂
There is some delay but for what I use, it's perfect.
This video is really well done. I was going to buy this board as a portable solution for one of our ship/pack stations, but sadly, Nuphy seems unable to respond to a customer support email. If a company cannot answer an email, I’m not inclined to give them money.
Thanks for the great review, made my decision even easier.
I like the Bobba Fett default color scheme X-D nice touch NuPhy.
Nice vid. I appreciate all the details. Off topic question. What was that game you were playing at 1:30?
Nevermind just got my answer in the comments : P Great video again!
