I can't believe we drove to the Arctic Ocean! Deadhorse Alaska Prudhoe Bay

- We made it to the end of the Dalton Highway- Deadhorse, Alaska!! From there we took the arctic shuttle and dipped our toes in the Arctic Ocean!!! How cool is that?!!! We can't believe we made it to the end of the road, such a remote place in Alaska. The Arctic Ocean was surprisingly not as cold as we thought it would be in mid-July. We only got an hour at the Arctic Ocean so our time on the beach was short and sweet.
Deadhorse is pretty much an oil field work camp. This is not a tourist town. There ain't much here except one general store that has limited supplies. And some snacks. No grocery stores. One gas station. A few basic hotels.
A really cool thing about going to the Arctic in summer was experiencing 24 hours of daylight. It was so special to witness being all the way up here in the Arctic. Something we both wanted to experience.
You get to Deadhorse, see the Arctic Ocean and you're on your merry way. Stay tuned for the next episode as we head back down the Dalton. We have some epic wildlife encounters!

Did you try the Dempster Highway? You can your camper right to edge of the Arctic Ocean and set up camp.
We haven’t done the Dempster yet! Camping by the Arctic Ocean would be really cool.

Not the Arctic Ocean, it the Beaufort Sea. I lived in Deadhorse Alaska for 10 years.
Beaufort Sea is in the Arctic Ocean so calling it the Arctic Ocean is also correct. What was it like living there?
I was first up there in the late 60's right after the discovery well was drilled and then later with the Arctic sealifts-there sure have been some changes.
It is the Arctic, Beauford Sea is part of the ocean.

i Know Alaska is friging cold all of the time. You would have had more fun heading for Pensacola Florida.

it's not cold year round. Some places get into the 80's and even 90's. And considering most places don't have AC it gets pretty warm when those temps happen and with those temps come millions of mosquitoes .

I wonder if there are bison that far north? We either saw grizzlies or muskox or caribou but not bison all the way up there.
No buffalo that far north, Musk Ox absolutely.

You have to pay and take the Arctic shuttle tour. That’s the only way they let you near the Arctic Ocean for an hour on the Dalton Highway.
@@NickandJulie Interesting. Thought about driving there with a regular car. I look google maps too much hehe. It is just crazy the solitude I would feel on that road. On their website says it takes two hours to get there but I assume the whole thing would last about two hours, since there's only a short distance to the artic from there
Deadhorse is the end of the haul road and the jumping off point for several major oil fields.
The oil fields are leased and have controlled entry points beyond Deadhorse, which you can’t enter unless authorized.
To get to the ocean as a tourist, you’ll need to do as they did and pony up some cash to get the bus ride.
