I just finished my album, where I did everything myself, and your videos along with Music Tech Help Guy were a huge reason for why I was able to do it!
@@TheBandGuide I'll let you know when it comes out. I'm sure there are things I could have done better on a technical level, and my production on the next album will be better, but I'm really proud of how it turned out.

Very interesting. I didn't realize you would use so many plug ins to alter and shape the tone of vocals. All I've been using is EQ and then adding Compression and effects. I would love to see you do a video on shaping the tones on different types of voices.
Hi I have a question, is there a way you know to sidechain to an exact kick pattern like a bus would routed to the kick. As I have kickstart and shaperbox but can only do basic pumping sidechain as you can’t route it to another chanel in GarageBand. Any help would be much appreciated?
Very helpful Boss! Love to have stable points to follow. You helped me a lot and you explain this so well so i really understand why this order for plugin is optimal to follow. Thanks a lot 🫡
excellent video - thanks very much. do you know if garageband has any built-in "plug in delay compensation"? do you have any experience of latency issues with garageband plug ins? cheers
My understanding is GB does have built in delay compensation. This is CRUCIAL. Otherwise, adding plugins could throw tracks timing off from one another. The best way to avoid latency when recording is to have little to no processing in the session (wait for mixing) and/or to monitor through the interfaces direct out (look this up with your interface to see if yours can do it)
Great question! In this case it is indicated that this is the "Comp" track where we compiled all her best takes from multiple takes into the final vocal
Sir I want to ask you something I use garage band in mac but I hate midi track so I export in wav file and import it as a audio but why the all gargband instruments are in the sterio I want them to a in Mono how doni do that
Any export from GarageBand will always be stereo. That's really no problem though since mono just means both ears are hearing the same thing equally. So a stereo track that is mono isn't any different- just the same exact thing in both left and right ears. The only downside is the extra space it takes on your computer from having 2 audio files instead of 1!
Good question! If I'm stacking compressors, I typically use a faster compressor first to trim off the biggest peaks then a slower compressor second to gently compress
No. The echoes, relections, tails, resonance and modulations of a reverb will alter the balance of frequencies. Some things will ring out more, or less, sustain more, or less, get muddy, or clear, feedback and completely change the way your frequencies fit around your other sounds or instruments in your mix. If you carefullt tuned the balance with an EQ, before a reverb, you'll mess it all up again! So, get your verb on first and then clean it up after with 1 EQ.
too much emphasis on mixing, plugins etc, concentrate on writing good songs, good performance is 10 times more important, the vast majority of songs i have heard by amateurs have horrible weak lifeless flat vocals and serious timing issues

Loved coming back to this Video and getting it more and more...very generous to share these tips..thank you.
Interesting choice to put the DeEsser after the EQ. Its usually done as part of track maintenance before you get into tone shaping.
I like your simple explanation. Also the fact you use Logic (like I have).
Thanks for another excellent video chock full of helpful tips 😎
I am well aware of this concept but the way you worded it this particular time somehow gave me a new understanding. Well done.
Awesome, Dave! Sometimes it's helpful to hear things a few times...
Thanks Colin! I will definitely use this amazing sounding vocal chain❤️
God Bless you ❤️
Loved, the video like how you use the right words to make a clear point. 🎉🎉
Literally was thinking about this yesterday while working on a vocal. 🙌🏻💯
Look at that timing!!
Great job here, clear and to the point! Thanks.....
Glad it was helpful!
This is awesome, I have been wondering about this. Thank you for the explanation!
Glad it was helpful, Josh!
Thanks so much for your great instruction. 😊
Happy to help!
Another outstanding video.

Appreciate the continued support!
Love it, thanks Colin!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That distortion 2 grit on the vocals sounds much better than the saturation knob
NEEDED THIS!!! 🙌🙌
This man has single handedly shaped my career for the better
alsooooo still waiting for “Stranded & Expanded” 😭😭
🙌 You're awesome! Considering dropping it very soon....
Very helpful and clear.
Awesome, Clark!

Yeah it's a rabbit hole... but you're definitely focused on the most important ones!
Man you’re the goat
🙌 Appreciate you
Really useful thank you
You're very welcome!
That's so helpful Colin. Many thanks. Out of curiosity, where do the VU meters come in the plug in order??? TIA. Rich.
nice!
Would love to see/hear your opinion on the stock PhatFX plugin.

What does comp mean on that track header? I keep hearing this but haven’t figured out the context.
Thanks

@@TheBandGuide the lead vocals are can be stereo should we mix always in mono but not background vocals( while mixing )
should i start off with a softer or harsher compressor? cause i usually use like 2-3 and im a bit confused on which comes where
Good question! If I'm stacking compressors, I typically use a faster compressor first to trim off the biggest peaks then a slower compressor second to gently compress
why eq after reverb? it's before, no?

Clicked thumbs down twice for fun, clicked upon like once. Colin, is there any RESO plugin for GarageBand?
