Just to correct you on one thing, when Des took over last season we were 2nd in the league. Also, our summer signings have generally been a disaster. Only Dembele has looked decent. Not sure if you are aware, but our owners are worth many billions of pounds, and they want us to be a perennial top 30 English club. To achieve this we MUST stay up this season….. They are very demanding, and I guess they don’t see Des as the man to achieve what they want.
Sunderland Fan here !!! Can only say that this is a cruel decision considering the budget !!! What do the hierarchy expect ?? Oh yes instant success !!!! lol It very rarely happens to a league one promoted outfit , Buckingham was doing a great job with limited resources !!! Great Start to the season but it peeled off given time & funds I'm sure things would of changed but now with a new incoming it starts at square one & a rebuild !!! This takes time , Supporters have it and are used to it Directors are not So best of Luck for the rest of the season 😮😮😮😮
Thanks for this yes Oxford went Champions of Third division (League 1) then Champions of Second division (Championship) to First Division in consecutive seasons! (Premier League 1982-1986) !
It’s not just Dembele. In recent weeks all of the following have been out Sam Long Elliott Moore Joe Bennett Ben Nelson Peter Kioso Przemyslaw Placheta Cameron Brannagan Matt Phillips Louie Sibley Siriki Dembele 29 Kyle Edwards Many of whom would be starters. Yes we’ve missed Dembele, but the Edward’s, Nelson, Bennett and Brannagan absences have all had significant impacted and meant that Buckingham wasn’t able to play his preferred formation or tactics. Btw, we (Oxford) won successive promotions from the 3rd tier to the top tier and a league cup ‘84-‘86
His summer signings have been a disaster….. I can see why he’s gone. If they are going to provide millions in January, maybe it would be wiser to let someone else spend it.
I’ve been an OXFORD UNITED supporter and proud of it. I totally agree with you when you look at the teams below us I think Des Buckingham has done a job. I think the board is made a very bad decision. In my opinion. He took us up against all the odds. I’ve been quite happy if it took us down like you said he had injuries open till the last two games, I don’t think I was playing bad football I’d like to thank Des for what he has achieved for OXFORD he ranks up there with Jim Smith. I am totally lost why this has happened. Good luck to you in the future and wherever you go I do not think Des out of a job for long one thing good will come out of this. I hope whatever happens to Oxford for the rest of the season. The board has only got their selves to blame come on you yellow let’s prove everybody wrong and get up this table get some players back the team can do it 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍🫵🫵😭😭😭😭OUFC 🫶🫶🫶💛💙💛💙💔💔💔
We have been better than I was expecting so for this season Oxford is all about the fans the town and the loyalty, to early Des Deserved longer he is Oxford through and through .
@@oufc90 indeed they were. Happy days. I was also just thinking about the Dennis Smith side that was promoted to the second tier in the late 90s... Moody...Beauchamp... Elliot... Gilchrist... that squad was 10 times better than the current lot... and then we brought in Windass and Jemson... really good players... incomparable to what we have now. Still we must keep the faith. COYY !
@@stevogeezer yeah that team in the 90’s was when I first started going up to the manor as a boy. Some top players then. Still think it’s a real shame about Des, but let’s hope we can somehow escape the drop this season
Our foreign owners are expecting to much to quickly they are already thinking premier league. Most of our fans are shocked to their socks by this decision today.
Just 1 season in the premier league would pay for the new stadium. I think our owners expect us to be there within a few seasons……. But surely they need to invest millions to achieve this? A manager is generally only as good as his players (and the player budget). That said, we did spend quite a bit in the summer, and most of the signings have been a disaster, with a few being average at best (Kioso, El Mizouni and Dembele).
Yes, we got opportunity.INDIA🇮🇳 need national team coach. Hope our federation contact him. What he did in indian football everyone remembered him. I wish, he should come to india again . We have asian cup qualification round from March 2025.
Life is not fair - with foreign owners the manager has to perform or he is out - long service is not a concept adopted by most Asian countries - a weeks notice on your contract both ways is very common - there are lots of problems having a foreign owner bit also advantages - the Luton Board is a classic example - a bunch of old farts - not a woman in sight and very very much out of touch. Luton needs a progressive Board not a 1950s cigar smoking gentlemans club, funny handshakes and all - if we had a modern competent Board with Big Mick as the first Director of Football then we would not be in the trouble we are in.

Thanks for the clarification. I’m not an expert in Oxford, I was just very enthused by how they fronted up when they turned up at Kenilworth Road
@ Yeah, I think that was one of our last decent performances. It was a good game, a game of two halves!

Wow, great knowledge, thanks!
I meant moreso in recent Championship/League 1 times
Oxford fan here, what a bad decision from the club… totally gutted
Sorry about it mate! Considering the context of this being your first season in the champo, it really makes no sense
I'm gutted ,but we mustn't hang on sentiment....he would have gone a few weeks ago if it was someone else

It very wise to sack Des Buckingham it will be interesting to see which Manager takes over
A shame that he didn't have more credit in the bank than that. Should've been supported in the January transfer window instead.

Wish des all the best should have been given longer 👍
To early to sack des

Oxford did actually do 3rd tier to 1st tier promotions in consecutive seasons ...1983/84 and 1984/85
Both promotions were as league winners too
