- We found four waterfalls on the Road to Hana that we were totally alone at! Two of which we were able to skinny dip at :) When you have an opportunity like that, you can't not take it!

Love all the messages I've received on Instagram about this vlog! Again, hit me up over there and I'll give you some solid instructions on how to get to the secret waterfall! @david_manning
Hey David, we messaged you on IG about these locations. Would love to know where exactly do you go for "Turtle Town" as well since it's a pretty big area! Btw, if you guys ever go to Seattle, we would love to meet up!
@@NguyenningAtLife We've got a video on Turtle Town (Episode 5)! It's better known as Maluaka. Also, we're from Tacoma so what up NW fam!
Headed to Maui next week and was looking for where you have this info at. I checked your IG but hadn't seen it anywhere!
Any chance I can get some solid instructions on how to get to some of those waterfalls. I will be there this week. Thanks I’m advance
Hi there! My husband and I enjoy watching your adventures and we’re also super curious about directions to the secret waterfalls. I’ll hit y’all up on instagram. 😊
Just found this channel and I have relived my experience in Maui, it gave me the jitters seeing the twin falls and the road to Hana. My heart is full 💜
Great stuff again my man! Hawaii is a magical place! Glad you could enjoy it and keep these videos as memories!
Awesome video thanks for the tips!!
Aloha, I just came across your video. Wanted to let you know a couple of us hiked out to the Secret Waterfall last week. About 300 feet before the waterfall a large boulder fell from up above, barely missing my husband's head, grazing his leg and ricocheting off his shoe / foot before it smashed on the ground. It's a miracle he didn't get killed! I have lived here for over 20+ years and DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS WATERFALL - As Beautiful as it is - IT CAN BE DEADLY!!! Please be responsible where you are guiding people to visit, this is not Disney Land.
Agreed Kymberly, things like this can be dangerous and people need to assess the risks they choose to take. But also, one of the most dangerous things we do on a daily basis is get in our cars and drive down the road. WAY more probable that you'll die in a car accident than from a falling boulder. So risk is all around👍
@@DavidManningvlog I hear what you are saying and agree about the driving. However, hiking thru this valley to get to the waterfall, is not your normal "get in the car and drive around town" experience. There is also something sacred about this area that it's almost spooky.
I was there two weeks ago and had a terrifying experience. Because of that, I have been doing my research and came across your video.
Update, as of September 2021, rocks are FALLING aprx 100 feet above the hike due to rain.
I discovered the Hawaiians call this area "Kapu" which means "forbidden, sacred and holy". (I had no idea that an ancient burial sight.)
Out of respect for the land & history nobody should be go there.
Anyone reading, It's an INCREDIBLE hike but make sure to google "falling rocks East Maui" before heading there.
A hui hou , Kym 🤙
I’m going in October spending 3 nights right across from the Venus pools. Definitely planning on hitting some of these spots! Can not wait thanks for this video! 🤙🏽
So rad, you’re going to love it!!!
awesome video man! i’m going to the big island in about a week and can’t wait! i just got a new gopro and am super excited to vlog the whole trip! thanks for putting out this awesome content. i subbed
Awesome Kyle! Dude, you're going to love Hawaii! I've never done the Big Island, but it's absolutely on my list! Have fun man, and send over a link when you get some footage up!
David Manning for sure man!
Not to be a buzz kill but if that is where I think it is, it’s kapu land. Not even locals in the area go there. If you have a chance, you should check out Napuahueu Instagram page. Kapu usually means “off limits”. I suggest (in the nicest way possible) that anyone reading this comment; please do your research before coming to Hawaii. I’m born and raised Maui, but have never gone there. Not cuz I don’t know about it, but because I respect the land. Anyway, much Aloha and I hope you enjoyed your trip on Maui! Mahalos!
PS. anyone reading this: if you guys end up swimming in ponds, make sure you don’t wear sunscreen. I know that sounds like a lot, but a lot of native people there use the water to grow their lo’i (taro patch) and that’s how they feed their families. When you use sunscreen, you are contaminating the water which they eat.
Oh and also, they closed seven sacred pools from swimming because naive (and locals) people jump off the rocks and end up hurting themselves or dying. Too much risk keeping it open to swim in.
Again, thank you.
Thanks Lauren! And totally respect that opinion! This is a public land spot, we checked it ahead of time. One thing that we ran into a lot on Maui were false signs that locals put up saying things like 'no trespassing' or 'keep out' even though it was a public land spot. I totally get why locals get bugged by tourists, I live in San Diego where we have our fair share of tourists flowing through.
But knowing somewhere is public land and then seeing those signs is a bummer. We loved Maui and appreciated our experience there so much. Much aloha to you as well Lauren!
@@DavidManningvlog Kapu is the same as " No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service", which I'm sure you dont argue about. The place youre going to might be on public land, the land you cross to get there might be not. If you see the sign and you assess your risk, keep in mind, that the locals know places, where you will never be found again. Ever. ;)
We have gone to Twin Falls every year for several years...I guess this year the locals decided to put that huge gate up!? You are very lucky that you were the only ones there!!!!!
Yes. If you want to get smashed by falling boulders, keep walking past the Do Not Enter sign. The waterfall is beautiful but not worth dying over.
Loved this!!!! You’ve got a new sub for sure! ▶️ My wife and I are having our first baby and headed to Kauai and Maui for our babymoon this month 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽 I feel like we’re gear twins except my Peak Design bags are all black and 20L and 5L lol! I’ll be making a cinematic travel film/vlog as well 🎥💪🏽 I’m basically a local when it comes to Oahu but only been to Maui a handful of times. Where is that secret waterfall?
Quality video David! 👍
Thanks brother! More videos from your Paris trip coming?
Great video!
The waterfalls look amazing. It's crazy how you guys kept being alone at this waterfalls. That hike with wet boulders is definitely not for me. The number of slips that I would have 😂... Didn't think you would actually skinny dip haha.
Hahhaa! It's totally like I said in the film, sometimes you think about a think and realize that if you don't go for it, you'll regret it for the rest of the day! I'm always working to bridge that gap between the things I think I want to do and the things I do :)
@@DavidManningvlog That's awesome I could borrow a leaf from that.
Stunning
Thanks Mark! Appreciate the comment!
Dude great video ! on 9/12/2019 I decided to do the same route. O man , I almost crap my pants. My wife 🙏 to the gods to make it to the pavement road. My idea was get a small n gas saver car. Wrong or good idea at the same time. If I would of get a wide body Jeep . I would of been freaking out on gas or can’t get pass narrow road or close call getting hit by another vehicle...i lost count how many time rocks fell on top of my roof.
All I can say is great road trip!!!
You were so close to some of the most beautiful hikes in Maui and you missed them!
Any recommendations we are headed there this week. Hikes and waterfall locations would greatly be appreciated
nice cap david!😍what kind of gopro you use here can you advice me with gropo is the best for vlogging 😊thanks❗️😊
For sure Shin! I used the GoPro Hero 7 Black here. You can checkout one of my latest videos on a pretty sweet little vlogging setup ua-cam.com/video/_jwUk6Umsx8/v-deo.html ENJOY 😃
Hi man, really cool video! Was just wondering what the music you've used for your B-roll is?
Hey Tom! I get my music straight from Epidemic Sound! Here's a link for a free 30 day trial! share.epidemicsound.com/davidmanning
Just found your channel, I have a gopro 7 black on the way and headed to the big island next month. My son hate when I wash the mud off my jeep he thinks it a badge of honor.
It is a badge of honor Johnny!!! Hahhaa! Although, the mud does stain the plastic fenders pretty good! Stoked that you're headed to the big island, that's on our list for next possible trips!!!
Need sage advice. Not sure if I've asked in your other videos. We're staying at Lahaina. We got 2.5-days. We want to go see the Sunrise at Haleakala till 8am. Should we do Reverse Hana up to Twin Falls then back to Lahaina on the same day? Or do Hana on separate day?
Your channel is chokefull of information.
I think the road to Hana loop is a full day thing and you won’t want to do it twice! Especially not back to back because it’s just so much time in the car. If you want to do sunrise at Haleakala, then reverse loop is the way to go, but the means you’ll be driving the south side of the island all in the dark to get there, which is a bummer because it’s so gorgeous! But if you’re determined on sunrise that far into the loop, reverse is for sure the way to go!

Hey David love the videos brother! I was curious if you could provide some details on your settings for the hero 7 black in this video?
Keep an eye out on my channel tomorrow! I'm dropping a video tomorrow morning going over GoPro settings!
@@DavidManningvlog You are THE man!
I just found u on YT and turned into one of my favorite ones!!
So stoked Simon! Pumped that you're enjoying things so far!
For sure!
Been there !
Hey, great vid, I'm heading over there and might want to check out that second waterfall that you swam at. Where is and what is it called? Thanks in advance.
honomanu falls
That's not Twin Falls. You are at Caveman Falls which is further inland and the reason you were all alone. To access Twin Falls, make an IMMEDIATE LEFT as you enter the trail head from the parking lot. Twin falls is very close to the Hana highway. Twin falls is like its name, two separate falls into one pool. Its a 1 to 2 minute walk from the parking area.
nice vlog man! did u tried to color grade it? it looks so flat like almost no greens or blues at all
Thanks Orlando! Yeah, I was using one color grade for that trip and that day was unusually dim lit footage, so the grade didn’t really do much to bring back the colors. Also, edited on the fly during our trip, so a bit less quality control than usual ;)
Just found your channel & this video is rad! 2 questions. First, do you use a super suit even with the GoPro Hero 7 Black? (I know it’s water proof, but everyone says not to trust that from my research which I don’t understand!). And 2nd, did you use an external mic for this vid?! Thanks so much!
Thanks Morgan! We totally rock the GoPro without the suit and for these hikes, because we knew there was a good chance of the GoPro dunking, no microphone. A parametric equalizer in Premier helps that audio out quite a bit 👍
David Manning right on! Thanks for the reply!! 😊
What beach was that first surf spot where you tried to watch the sunrise?
Great question... I'm pretty sure it was Ho'okipa Beach Park. Not positive, but I think that was it!
What was the third hike on your trip?
I just hiked this trail like 2 months ago
So many good spots there! 🙌
Always take your GoPro every where pro tip
Where's the best place to rent a jeep? And how much
We did it through Costco online and I remember that it wasn't terrible, but by far the cheapest option! I don't remember the price, but for sure check Costco for sweet deals!
just like Kaihalulu (red sand beach) in hana its not a nude beach it a place where tourist take their clothes off and locals hate it when they do that
No respect at all from this guy
How long was the walk to get to the waterfall at 13:45?
Depends on how comfortable you are with hopping along the river rocks, but it shouldn't be more that 15-20 minutes!
So sorry. RIP
Huh? Rip for who?
Maui Tourist Safety Dept....don't go you will die lol!
What camera were you using during the trip?
I flipped between a few and you can see them all in the description below! Mainly though, a Sony A7RII and a GoPro Hero Black 7 👍
@@DavidManningvlog thanks for the reply!
@@DavidManningvlog Also, I noticed you're main camera doesn't have a monitor that flips out. Neither does my Sony A6300. I was wondering if you really even need an external monitor and such, and if you do have one, what kind is it and how is it set up?
@@nathanw32 Great question Nate, I'm actually answering that in a video this week that goes over my little studio setup that I use to film reviews and what not. Keep an eye out for that soon!
@@DavidManningvlog For sure! Keep it up!
Definitely going back now #giveaway
I hate to tell you this but the sun rises in the east and sets in the west not the north and south...
Wait, whaaaaaat?! Hahahaa! You’re totally right, BUT at that time of year, you can see it best from the Northeast side of the island and the Southwest side of the island. For sunrise, you’re mainly up on the North side and for sunset, you see it best from the South side. Just sort of how the island is shaped that makes it that way!
@@DavidManningvlog Interesting, I did not know that! I've been to Maui a few times but only in May.
How come you didn't google that? It's common sense
So you were facing North and thought the sunrise would be in front of you???
Hahaa! Maybe I said it wrong, but you can SEE the sunrise best from the North side of the island and you can SEE the sunset best from the south side of the island. Me no that dumb 🤣
I love swimming nude. Hiking nude is even better, so freeing.
Hiking nude?! Where might one hike nude and get away with it? Asking for a friend😜
@@DavidManningvlog There is a group who every year hikes nude in Austria: ua-cam.com/video/gYzPdIpdMfI/v-deo.html
There are groups in France (see apnel.fr) or in Spain ua-cam.com/video/E8aso6xMkuw/v-deo.html and American groups: see truenudists or the naked club ua-cam.com/users/TheNakedClubvideos
How do you get there I don’t have instagram
honomanu falls
I going back to Maui for 2 weeks in August... I’m totally skinny dipping this time lol
100 percent recommend! Especially if you find yourself at a secret waterfall 🙌
lol, you thought the sun rose on the north and set in the south.
Hahhaa!!! No no no! It’s just that you can SEE the sunrise better from the North side of the island and you can SEE the sunset better from the South side. I know me some directions! 🤣
you missed the actual secret waterfall, it was a little further south on hana highway after the second to last one you posted. 400 feet
Well we'll be back to check that one out too! You have any info on getting there?
@@DavidManningvlog follow the river inland that feeds honomanu bay. trail starts behind the bridge that crosses it
FYI if there are locals there your presence will not be appreciated
@@jluz1106 I felt that with Locals when we went to Red Sand Beach. We insisted on going after 6 other tourist showed up with cameras.
Can you tell me where this hike is? We went to Honomanu falls last year and are going back with my kids next week. That hike was AMAZING! I would like to take them on this smaller hike if you can point me in the right direction please?
Don’t have an ig, currently in Maui. Any way you can share the secret falls locations ?
Shoot me an email Hugu! david@davidmanning.co
Who did you rent you Jeep from?
We rented through Costco and they routed it to Alamo. The upgrade to a Jeep is well worth the added value for your trip! 🙌
@@DavidManningvlog wait what, I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for that too.
Damn it!! We were at the last water fall and I wanted to keep walking past the sign and the group said no 😭😭 have to go back now
Oh nooooo!!! We were told that they would fine us if we were caught, but we just had to see it up close! I completely understand that they say it's dangerous, but I'm pretty sure the Road to Hana is WAY more dangerous than the falls! Hahhaaa!
Just so you/anyone reading this knows there are several videos on youtube where people were vlogging on those rocks under the waterfall when a rock (more like boulder) fell about 5 ft away from them. It actually is super dangerous. You can't really hear the rock coming and it doesn't depend on rain. It can be bright and sunny and a rock will still fall randomly. @David Manning
Where do we go for these???! My boyfriend and I are going for a week with no kids and wanna find some secret waterfalls!
honomanu falls
I guess he's never heard that the sun rises in the East and sets in the West🤦♂️
Surprised to hear this was filmed on 5k USD worth of camera gear. Looks like iPhone 6 footage honestly. Nice video tho.
You are missing so much not using a drone for your footage
Hey Martin! Head to the 1:43 mark in the video and the very last shot at 16:24 👍 Just didn’t get a chance to use it back by the waterfalls!
Come on, really? Not one of those waterfalls is a secret, especially Twin falls and Haleakala NP.
Ahhh, but where's that second one at?😘
1. Caveman falls (Twin falls) 2. Punalau falls 3. Kopiliula falls 4. Waimoku falls (Haleakala NP). Not many tourists stop at 2 & 3. Good for you to find them. But you also missed a few more epic falls. You just drove by.
Dude, so we tried to find the secret falls yesterday and either we are blind or just confused. Ha ha. I will be vague to respect keeping secret falls just that. We weren’t sure when to hit the Jeep trip. Coming out of Paia there is mile marker ( blank) and then as you get closer it starts at zero as you start the road to Hana. And then you hit mile marker ( blank) again. So you you pass the same mike marker twice. Hopefully that makes sense. Ha ha. Which one do we reset the odometer? If you want to hit me up on messenger or here that would be awesome. I think we are going to give it another try.😃 Thanks so much man!!!🤙
Nooooo!!! The mile marker XX that you're looking for is on the count up! So you're looking for that mile marker that I said, then you're looking for your trip counter to say XX.25. I'm going to look through some of our raw footage to see if I can find a picture of the bridge that you cross. And when I say bridge, I just mean one of those tiny little bridges, then you park RIGHT after it! I'll hit you up on messenger and try to explain more!
Ok I’ll look on messenger. Thanks David!!
I dove the lanai cathedrals this morning. I got some good footage! When I get home I can send that over to you excited to see what you think!
Lmao secret 😂 you wish buddy. I am glad you don’t know the secrets
Sounds like you know some real secrets!
Yes sir! But honestly we don’t like when tourists know the actual secrets and hidden gems. Which is fine by me honestly because the tourists have ruined a lot of good spots especially when they come over using sunscreen killing all the reef, bleaching it and soon enough the marine life will be gone because there won’t be a reef.
The kind of disrespectful tourist that locals hate. Here’s to trespassing and getting much needed attention for the gram.
Why do you even have a video on this? Everything you’ve said has been wrong. The confusion channel.
Cool video. I live on Maui and didn't know about a couple of these places. I'll have my wife send you a message on Insta (I don't have). Aloha, mate.
Please delete or edit any mention of this waterfall location. Please stop encouraging trespassing on sacred/stolen lands. This is why Hawaiians hate Haoles so much-total lack of respect. Please be pono, do the right thing, that’s the true meaning of aloha.
