As a polish girl living in England I can confirm that hate toward polish people in the uk is very common. The amount of times I’ve been picked on, pushed, called a dirty foreigner for literally no reason is actually unbelievable. I get people telling me to go back to my own country and stuff like that. You’d probably find they were shouting P*lack, which is an ethnic slur against Polish people in the English language (You see it in A Streetcar Named Desire). Since it’s not as common use over here like it was in the US, it just goes to show the sheer level of hatred and racism is disgusting. Hell, calling the assault a ‘mad night’ is stomach churning- over an ACCIDENT. They killed him over an accident. True evil-
RIP to the poor man and any victims.
Don’t get me wrong, I feel for those with addictions and they NEED help (adults who turn a blind eye to this are enabling it. Vodka- any alcohol has a potent odour, so it wouldn’t be hard to tell. Likewise there’s always signs) but it’s no excuse to cause harm either. I genuinely feel these kids were troubled big time, left to their own devices, and took that out on the world. Unfortunately it’s innocent people that pay the price.

It's disgusting on how people treat Poles. even here in America, my family was ridiculed and treated poorly due to where we are from (my grandfathers siblings and parents). this case actually mad me cry even though its not the worse case ive heard i really connected to the case as im also a living in one of the bad parts of dublin, not even too far from where this murder took place. I've never heard of the murder until now, but my friends, my family have all experienced racial abuse, ive been spit on told to go back to my country just going too school as kid, ive had people like randoms pick fight with me just cause im a foreigner, i usally just ignore it or if im with my friends i might even fight back and ive grown quite a thick skin from this and dont take it quite as seriously as i should but just to see how such a simple alterication ended up with this man losing his life really tore me up and brought up those feeling of powerlessness. Anyways thank you so much for covering this case Eleanor.

i wish there was more on the Karen Hales case, i remember watching it years ago on crimewatch UK. happened in Suffolk 1993, the night before she died she was alone with her baby, when she heard a noise by her front door. she went to check it out and she saw her front door handle moving up and down, someone trying to get in but she didn't call out. next day her parents found her body burnt and stabbed to death, still on fire with the baby unharmed. really messed up that case
