I will agree though some may not. The dude can shred, play blues, or whatever you want. Plays with way more feeling compared to racer x days. Not that I disliked the racer x era.
Paul Gilbert is a master of guitar. Ritchie is the master of hard rock riffing. Ritchie has written more great hard rock songs than anybody, even Tony Iommi.
Am I the only person who hears that he isn't playing the riff that Ritchie recorded? I don't read music but he is playing two notes after the 5th note of the riff instead of holding the 5th note for another beat. His solo would fit better with a song written avh ( after Van Halen). He of course is a fantastic player but I agree with another post stating that he doesn't get the feel of this song right.
Wow, I always preferred Vivian Campbell s version of this to the original, and Paul seems to play it more like the original, until the solo, where he totally reminds me of how Vivian used to play it. Both those guys are a few of my favorite guitarist, Blackmore, not so much despite that he wrote some awesome tunes.
Ya know, this has got to be the only time I've heard a cover by Paul and not thought the guitar sounded better than the original. This still sounds great but usually I think to myself 'wow, that sounds so much better than the original'.
Great guitar work. But his singing leaves a lot to be desired. Ritchie Kotzon on the other hand is both a terrific guitarist and vocalist. Don't know if he'd play a better lead I doubt it but his vocals would put Paul to shame. I think Paul was just having fun though. First time I ever heard Paul sing.
It's not a standalone vocal cover. He's playing guitar, with his band. This is how most covers are done. Just because he isn't the greatest metal vocalist of all time doesn't mean he can't cover a song in his own way. He's not trying to "beat" Dio. He's paying tribute to him here as he has on his recent album.
I've seen Ritchie live around 10 times (all Rainbow and Purple incarnations on every British tour since 1972) I can assure you, though I appreciate Paul Gilbert's skill, no one who copies Ritchie has his spirit, attack and feel. He's also the best showman who ever slung a guitar over his shoulder, in my opinion. Anyone can copy a part .... coming up with this great song and solo (on the original version) is another matter.
playing lead guitar while singing ..... any guitarist will agree that this is a difficult thing to do .... Paul is an Insane Guitar God !!!
Paul has to be the greatest modern day guitarist. Very few, if any can do what he can. It's not always about speed...
Even though he can play insanely fast and still his picking is surprisingly clean.
Paul makes everything look so simple, Great musician!
Best cover of that song ever! Bravo!
The finest Rock guitarist on the planet...Paul Gilbert!

Good comment my friend....yes Paul has more feel and knowledge than most other axemen ...me included....cheers!
Dude's ,, Ranked in my 10 Best Guitarist's of all Time !(If you ask Me)
Incredible soloing.
Really beautiful playing. Just absolutely top level. But you need a singer my man. There's a ton of people who would do for free. I'm one of them.
Awesome

I couldn't have said that better myself
Nice fun jam, possibly paying tribute to the masters Rainbow
Well definitely not Blackmore or Dio... But I still appreciate Gilbert as a Guitarist 😎🤟
Et il porte mon tshirt ! :D
Quel concert, c'était trop trop bon :)
Fucking killed it. Awesome solos.
Great job Paul and BTW I've never seen anyone play that solo correctly including Ritchie himself!
Yes, but Ritchie never played the solo live as good as on record! Including the arpeggio.
That makes me feel better I mangle it every time 😂
évidemment tu étais au premier rang ! bravo pour les vidéos !
I like the more modern version by the Dio solo band . The original seems slow ...idk still cool 🤘🏻Paul is still awesome too 🤘🏻

Seabud agreed - his only fault is that he overplays a bit

SomeDudeOnline no one sounds as good as Ritchie Blackmore. I’ll take that to the grave.
Paul never can become Ritchie! Ritchie's solo was nice and memorable but Paul's wasn't . And his voice was terrible. He should not sing.
Ritchie Blackmore is that legendary.
Just as good as Ritchie blackmore
This guy could teach me a few tricks in an hour. That otherwise I'll never learn...LoL
🤘
\m/ this shows one can cover a Blackmore's song, but don't even try to mess up with Ronnie Dio \m/
Hail Blackmore and Dio!!
Very nice. Um..I mean... Tres bon!
Playing AND singing? Very hard to do. Makes it look easy. Wish my fingers were that long (so does my gf, wink wink).
Great guitar work. But his singing leaves a lot to be desired. Ritchie Kotzon on the other hand is both a terrific guitarist and vocalist. Don't know if he'd play a better lead I doubt it but his vocals would put Paul to shame.

good cover , but Blackmore is something else .
yups...
Paul....never, never, never try to cover a Ronnie vocal.
But, play and sing at the same time "the man in the silver montain is complicated" lol.
Or Ritchie Blackmore on guitar.
he can do whatever he wants, myob
He just released the whole album of Ronnie James Dio covers hahaha f*** you

1 octave highher singing
Если не певец- НЕ ПОООООООООООЙ !
Way better solo than the original
Are you def?
Amazing Singer, he should give up learning guitar
Better than Dio himself
Guitar is Awesome! Couldn't hear his voice.
Эта не Ваш шедевр!!!
Dar este in prima linie a chitărilor in lume...

You are the great guitarist but not a vocalist.it is not yours...
