I have a friend whose daughter at the age of 15 came out as trans. Since she was now male she decided to play football. There are no words to express the aggravation she felt that not being able to play at the same level as the boys and basically getting her ass kicked regularly. I'm not saying that the team was not good to her, simply that she could not compete at their physical level and yet insisted that she should be able to since she was now male.
My favorite side story to this was after a game one of the players on the other team who was gay asked for her phone number not knowing "he" was a girl. I'll leave you to ponder the irony of that particular situation.

Ridiculous doesn't even begin to define what is being permitted in the world. Pathetic is a better word. Unless it's a coed sport ladies should only compete against other ladies. I used to throw the Hammer, shot and discus at the collegiate level. I was an average athlete at best and at no point did I feel I needed to throw against the ladies. If i did what would i prove? That I too am pathetic. I know that's harsh but i think we're too soft in this world and the truth is often censored so feelings don't get hurt. Well, too bad you're pathetic.

Sport is nuanced. These "activists" simply don't understand that. To use their parlance, I will share my "lived experience". I play rugby. I am 6'2/188cm and 220lbs/100kg. I play at a competitive yet tier 5 level. In our club we have a womens team that are the national champions and have several players that play for the country and are international rugby players. We train with them often, usually if they have a final or a big league game come up - It's non-contact. No one is allowed to tackle and during ruck-time, ONLY the women are allowed to counter ruck. During scrums, ONLY the women are allowed to push (we hold), and during line-outs, our jumpers are not allowed to steal or compete in the air.... They still struggle to counter ruck us, we still put them under pressure (forcing them to make mistakes) in defence when we press and they fail to move us in the scrum. That is the level of difference. They are fitter and have some skills that are better but physically they are no match for us - You cannot account for muscle mass, sheer size and power even though we are amateur non-elite in our category yet they are semi-professional elite in their category.

There is this crazy pushback against acknowledging that women are on average smaller, not as strong, and not as fast as men. This shouldn't be a big deal, men and women are just built differently. The problem arises when people take these difference to indicate some kind of inferiority that inherently devalues women and women's sports. Something tells me, from the way you talk about the women ruggers you train with, that you probably enjoy watching the athleticism on display when these women play other women. When athletes are matched up as equal as possible, it always makes for a much more exciting game. We separate all combat sports into weigh classes within each sex category to ensure the most level playing field possible. Who wants to watch a heavy weight destroy a feather weight in one punch? By separating sport by sex, we also create a mostly level playing field for the best possible competition. I wish people could see it this way. But instead, there is this idea that women are no different than men. This has helped usher in the ridiculous notion that an athlete who has gone through male puberty has no advantage over female athletes and that is destroying fair play in sport.

I’ve been interested in this topic for years. I was arguing about it with a friend once and when I mentioned that a solution would be for transwomen who are serious about sport and want to compete at the elite level to enter the open division (just make all men’s division open). She countered that it would be unfair to the transwomen, since the hormones they take diminish their athleticism. At the same time she was arguing that transwomen don’t have a sporting advantage over women. 🤪
The confusion is usually in accepting mediocre to above average males as on par with exceptional females. I feel like screaming sport is about rewarding excellence, not mediocrity. Category integrity or bust.

Most people are not free thinkers. They just say whatever is the most socially expedient thing is. And they crush all opposing views not through debate but through force. The older I get the more clear it becomes. I almost feel a loss of innocence. Like I use to think, people thought things through, and even if you disagreed there would still be given a fair shot in the arena of ideas. Honestly, my country of Canada continuously disappoints me.

I can relate to the loss of innocence sentence. Though I’ve felt the feeling of surprise and kinda small scale shock when people react to things I’ve asked with giving me answers about something unrelated, or questioning - assuming actually - that I have an agenda with everything, even since I was a kid! I’ve tried to shrug it off thinking that person was having a bad day and what not, and continued being me, trying again, thinking next person/ everybody else will be thinking more logical. But now I’m tired. There’s no room for talking, it’s being shut down. That’s why I appreciate these kinda talks even more.

But the 4 years don't need to be consecutive, nor do they all have to occur during or near the time of competition. Theoretically, a guy could meet the IOC criteria by claiming to have "a female gender identity" for the year leading up to Olympic competition, then ditching the "identity" immediately afterwards. Then he could do the same thing the next Olympics, & the one after that... A man could compete in women's events in 4 separate Olympic Games over 12 years this way, claiming to have a "female gender identity" for a total of 4 years.
