I’ve had interesting conversations with Australian Vietnam Veterans who on patrol would run a mixture of SLR and M16’s some loved one or the other some would happily shoot any. But that was really the last generation I’m aware of that fought with mixed caliber rifle while on patrol, aside from running the Mag58/240/GPMG M60 which is a way different talk.
My first 5 yrs in the army I carried the FN. I liked it and we had no choice at the time. After switching to M16s, I'd be hard-pressed to go back given weight, ability to carry more rds etc. (moot point, being I've been retired for years.). As to the point made about logistics o/a 15:35 mark. Not a problem, really. As long as the battle rifleman is anywhere near the GPMG (MAG 58/C6/M 240) he has a resupply of ammo. One belt alone gives him more than his basic load at the start of the mission likely was. It's not hard to break up a belt...
Why would I take ammo away from the most casualty producing weapon? I’ve never understood the, take ammo away from the machine gun, which is the linchpin in fire planning, to give to a rifleman. Cross level the rest of the squad’s ammo and keep the real killer in the fed.
@@horatiusromanus Absolutely. My comment concerns just having flexibility. Perhaps the gun is broken or some other similar scenario? That aside, you are absolutely correct - the MG is the most important weapon in the platoon's arsenal. Hornady black uses SST rounds I believe. Badass bullet for flesh, but it's barely a step above Varmint rounds -- wouldn't do so hot against cinder blocks.
Battle Rifles are still completely relevant and an excellent option to run and gun, love my FAL as much as my M70 AK and my SR556 (love my Piston gats). The big issue is weight vs. mobility, but that aside, running a spicier Battle Rifle Cartridge is optimal for both reaching out and touching someone and dealing the damage. It's another reason the Army is going back to a larger caliber (6.8x51) with the M5/ Sig Spear for Combat Arms Units, also the Indian Army just ordered a bunch of 7.62x51 NATO Rifles for their Northern/ Mountain Units and that warfare application. A lot was learned over the GWOT and other conflicts regarding the efficacy of a larger/ more powerful and damaging cartridge over 5.56 NATO and 5.45 Russian (I personally prefer 7.62x39 RU over 5.45 still). My only question for you Admin, where the F can we get Metal Metric FAL Mags right now? All the current Polymer Mags on the market are absolute trash and there's a serious dry hole for Metal ones, the surplus market has dried up and there aren't new production ones being made which is a travesty upon man. I just need a couple more to feel comfortable with a Combat Load plus.
All us old FAL owners have them, I just found another 20 in an old custom chest rig just chilling, your best bet is to join the FAL Files and check the marketplace. There are still deals on there for mags, rifles, parts, ect.
@@robertharper3754 Just been pouring through the marketplace on that forum, not seeing anything for Metric Mags. It shouldn't be this annoyingly difficult to get some damn Magazines. I've also talked to CSSpec Magazines about making new Metric and Inch pattern Mags, he's still mulling it over, he already makes M14 Mags so it wouldn't be too hard for him since he already has the machines and tooling.
Weight aside I would much rather have the battle rifle in most scenarios. If you are going door to door though then the lighter assault rifle really is the right tool for the job.
The problem is weight is the biggest concern. Because most of the time you are carrying it and not shooting. But it would be interesting to compare a standart ar15 with an designated lightweight AR10 some of them are under 6lbs. So the weight problematic gets minimalized.

You don’t need an assault rifle or a battle rifle.
YOU NEED BOTH.
That's why an AR-10 is perfect, it's both.
I believe there are a few that comes to mind when having both. The Colt CM901 and Imbel IA2 being a couple among some others out there.
Bullpup battle rifle, both in a single gun.

Can't go wrong with an FN-FAL. Superior lethality, range and barrier penetration.
All kidding aside, someone from my family owns a Mauser. That 8x57mm is no joke! You find that out by putting 2 holes, one the size of your fist, through a regular birch tree, the other identical hole through the body of an angry, arrogant hog, which do happened to open up your favourite guard dog.
PS: Guard dog was OK and thankful for human affection and responsive to treatment. The hog went down like a sack of potatoes and was dead as a doornail.
Get a zastava m77. Fal with ak reliability especially in sandy desert areas
I've been keeping my eye on the Zastava M-77 gun whore that I am.
I love battle rifles, I think mainly because I prefer the higher stopping power and range. DMRs specifically are my fav class of weapon, and the SCAR-20 is my fav DMR/SSR.
Their is just something soothing about sending 7.62nato down range... especially when the g3 turns brass hunters faces purple...like the local crack head, the brass heads can hear a 308 box being put on a table from across the flat range... before the targets are set 2 or 3 are already hovering for the case to hit the floor.... only to find it crushed into German origami....
I am a simple man. I see Admin Results, I click.
I'll take a battle rifle every time.
I got attacked by a bull and I only survived because I happened to have my new C-308 that I had brought to try out. I honestly believe that a .223 wouldn't have worked.
@@applepie1911e
I honestly don't think it would have. I wouldn't trust it to stop anything bigger than a coyote.
I think battle rifles are not really good in a civilian self defence scenario but in the military they could easily defeat body armour so it depends
(sorry i meant overkill, not incompetency in a self defence situation, but i am realising that that also might not be entirely true
There’s always a place for .308
I don't know if easily is the term I would use... most plates are rated for well above .308
No one needs assault rilfes...battle rifles are the way to go
They are widely used for urban warfare in south america precisely because of penetration.

This is the best UA-cam channel or something like that!
Well this makes me happy I'm running a 308 for my shtf/battle rifle.
From experience
308/30-06-Ball M2 end things.
545/556 injured things.

This is why I love this channel.
I still crave to own the spicy FAL

Was that Hornady ammo using Vmax bullets? Those projectiles are probably more prone to fragmenting than regular ball ammo.
Yeah he should have used old fashioned 7N6 why not?
Eversince I stumbled upon the story of Rhodesia, I've had this love for battle rifles. Aks come in close second
Love the vid!!!
@Sauli Luolajan-Mikkola True.
I often had to debate this with colleagues who would get blinded by the structure etc. The main purpose of infantry riflemen is to provide local, close in protection (relatively speaking) for the support weapons that do the bulk of the work.

Assault rifle is a term used to describe weapons that fire intermediate cartridge like 7.69×39 vs 7.69 × 51, 54 used by soldiers in WW2
More collabs between u two would b badass

With all Mr Balaclavaks funny accents he can do.. wouldn’t it but funny if his real accent was British & the whole time he puts on the American accent lol
Ayeo that Hallbeck device on your fal is hot, and Blue Jean really has never left tarkov
I wish they would’ve tested the rifles at ranges past 500 yards and tested terminal ballistics. This is where the battle rifle would’ve shined. Depending on your needs, pick the right tool for the right job.
I like these guys! You my friend just got a sub. Pepperoni and provolone..
You guys should do a test to see which firearm can launch an empty shell casing out the hardest. Like one of you shoots into the distance while the other is shirtless right next to the ejection port
That's not much of a distance test. Print Shoot Repeat might be up for it anyways.
G3 would be the winner easy. They launch into the next state.
I'm sure the Mini-14 would be a contender for that title
Hornady black uses SST rounds I believe. Badass bullet for flesh, but it's barely a step above Varmint rounds -- wouldn't do so hot against cinder blocks.
I need a battle rifle or AR10 but I don't know what to get

Arizona Response Systems is your FAL expert in Arizona. I have been jousting with Mark Graham of ARS since 1996 about FALs.

Id rather have an assult rifle with a GPMG in the a squad for punching walls and vehicles, assuming its a universal setup.
thanks for the great video big guy
at the 300-600 range, i hope i could get saved by mortar instead of my battle rifle. but within the 300 distance, why not have a bigger gun?
Thats sensible! Good reasoning there.
Lighter firearm, lighter ammo, faster follow up shots
@@talltale9760
Or just choose a weapon that does not require follow up shots to begin with. With 7.62x51, if you hit it once, it dies, or is no longer in the fight. YMMV.
@@BeingFireRetardant With 5.56x45, if you hit it once, it dies, or is no longer in the fight. 7.62 isn’t exponentially more lethal

That is objectively false.

.308 all day long. You don't need those 10 shots, you need to hit that one enemy through the door frame or through the car or up on the hill once so that he doesn't shoot back.
