I've owned an M1A, an HK 91 and now have an FAL. The FAL is my favorite! Mine is an L1A1 build (I prefer the folding charging handle and large paddle mag release) and I've upgraded the rear sight to the Canadian flip-up sight that dials from 200 to 600 meters in 100-meter increments. It's truly a damn shame that it didn't make it in .280 British in select-fire. That would have been one incredible weapon!
I used one when I was in the army here on Brazil, probably the last time I will ever hold a gun (since the monopoly here makes them very expensive, and our constitution is very restrictive). The weapon was heavy and difficult to operate, especially for the girls, it was almost as if we were fighting the equipment itself. The phrases we heard the officers shouting the most were "Put more strength into this!" and "The weaponry is not old, it is just rustic!"
My dad served in the Turkish army as a conscript he told me the exact same thing about HK G3 it was heavy not to mention they had to carry it for long period of times. It was like the whole service was just carrying a heavy weapon nothing else. Its really interesting hearing the Brazilian perspective with their battle rifles.

aaron guest dude you don’t understand how badly people buy up Fals here in the US. They became legendary within the surplus military market. From Rhodesian fans to guys who knew about the siege of jadotsville it is a popular rifle.
As patriotic as I am, I have to admit, the US logistics department has an awful track record. Using the Beretta over the 1911, using the Beretta for 30-something years and not switching to Glock right away, using the Krag instead of the Mauser, using a .38 Special over a .45 Long Colt, delaying the use of cartridge repeaters in the Civil War (More thanks to that James Ripley moron than the US as a whole, but it happened multiple times over like 50 years, and instead of firing that f*cking moron, he ended up dying with his job title!), even today with the new rifle trials in wanting to use electronics in modern combat rifles, accepting a bullpup into said trials and demanding a new ammunition type chambered in 6.8 when 6.8 SPC, or 6.5 Creedmore, or 6.5 Grendel fitted onto the M27 upper via a new lower receiver would work AMAZINGLY WELL, not to mention all the weapons have like overcomplicated two stage chambering systems as opposed to the already simple enough one stage chamber system, and this is costing, what, 11,000,000,000 USD and the military even said they might not even use one of the options available!!! Great use of our tax money. The only really good ones I can think of are the adoption of the 1911, the Marines keeping the 1911 (M45 MEUSOC, Colt .45 USMC and M45A1) and the recent adoption of the Sig P320 handgun, because BASED GODS does the P320 have an amazing trigger and a reset so subtle you couldn't find it if you were looking for it!
@@JohnSmith-xv2ob I dunno about this post. The Beretta is by far a better fighting gun than the 1911 by the 80's, and quickly jumping to the glock would force another trial which would have to demand multiple manufacturers to submit for for negligible improvement for a gun that will near never even be used in combat anyways. The M45 the marines used were garbage. Cracked all over the place and suffered a lot of malfunctions. The M45 was a joke that only exists as a service weapon because muh tradition. The M9 was a far superior choice, and the Marines that went to competitions with the M45 were losing terribly to just about anyone else with a modern handgun. I carry a P320 every day but the P320 had issues as well, and a subtle trigger reset isn't exactly a great thing.
THANKS FOR PUTTING BRAZILL!!!! People barely know that my country produced over 300.000 FN FALs, 200.000 still being used in the armed forces and many more in the police
The us army has used foreign weapons, and still uses them today, some imported, some produced locally under liscense, in which case the foreign gun manufacturers still make a profit(beretta 92fs/m9, fn minimi/m249..etc) As for the FAL, it's rejection had nothing to do with its national origin(otherwise I'm pretty sure the AR 10 would have won the trials in 1957), and had more to do with saving money.
Vasting the us still bought scar series firearms, which were designed and manufactured by fn herstal, which is located in a foreign country called Belgium, pleasure doing business with you lads hahaha
Actually, the Imbel manufactured FAL was generally considered every bit as high-quality as the FN-manufactured guns. The only one considered better was the Austrian StG-58.
US: “It’s too heavy, too much recoil, too long, and individual marksmanship no longer matters.” 2022: US adopts MCX-Spear, longer, heavier, Marksman focused rifle. FN FAL: “Am I a joke to you?”
But the spear has a range of like 800-1000 meters and is more modular. I am still only cautiously optimistic of the new weapon system because i don't trust the US at this point.
The FAL is a makes the enemy say: "Help! I have FALlen and can't get back up!" rather quickly... Perfect lead delivery system if you do not fancy spending a lot of ammo!
I see the FAL in the same light I do the SKS (I'm an SKS nut btw). A wonderful concept hindered by a sudden up and comer and forgotten to history. For the FAL, the AR-15 stole its lime light, and for the SKS, the AK47 ripped away it's chance to be anything more than a second line weapon. Think of it like the old traditional man running in a shooting competition with a 1911 in the mid 80s, but then a 20-something fresh guy rolls in with a first generation Glock 17, gets a time one second faster than the old champion and is recognized in the whole shooting community as a hero, and the old man, who has been winning and performing better than anyone until this young whipper snapper, is just forgotten. I collect SKSs and am modifying one to become a modern patrol/competition worthy rifle, it's a workhorse that deserves more than what it had. It's going great so far, I'm not using any AK or AR essential parts (mags, releases, etc, anything that the weapon could not run without), it is a tried and true modern SKS. Maybe one of these days I'll start collecting FAL variations, maybe choose the cheapest variant to adapt to a modern day combat style and have just a whole stock of them preserved, to be enjoyed until they literally turn to dust. I plan to do the same for the Makarov, Tokarev TT-33, 3-Line Mosin and MP5, among single examples of significant firearms I find desirable. Ahhh, the joys and poverty brought on by being a firearms historian. A most wonderful thing to spend two weeks eating nothing but ramen and canned spaghetti over.
I remember an old English vet talking to me about the Falklands war where both sides used FAL. According to him the British used the semi-auto setting while the Argentinians used the Full auto setting. He said that their first 2 shots were on target but after that it was an AA gun.
I think that was the issue with most 7.62 battle rifles, definitely with the M14. Although the G3 seemed to be one that has manageable recoil but still relatively hard.
I really like the new black-and-white animations. It adds a level of dynamism that I think was notably absent from previous offerings. (They ARE new, right?)
The World of Guns App (from which these animations come from) has been around for at least a year; the FAL was added to that game early in that App's history, so these animations surely aren't new.
The L1A1 FAL (British one) was one of the 1st rifles we learnt to shoot while in the ATC (air cadets) after the older bolt action Lee Enfield No 4 & No 8, we knew it mostly as just the SLR.
Gotta add, later (whilest still in ATC mid 80's ish) the L1A1 was replaced by the horrible SA-80, being a left hander I remember really hating the SA-80, the L1A1 however was great.
My god. My friend had to use an L85 during a training exercise and I say HAD. The Brits got to use M4's and I must say they were reluctant to give them back while the US troops couldn't get rid of the L85's fast enough! XD Sorry m8, but the Brits were better off with the good ol' L1A1.
@Fmono • 38 years ago • Updated ''beat'' they suffered more losses and had ''better'' equipment, more men and way better training.. but still got destroyed especially because their m16's got muddy and couldn't resist water.. stop dickriding your government.. no reason to, there is nothing positive about the US.
The FAL was used in the Falklands War and Veitnam (Australian Troops) you forgot to mention that fact it disappointed me but otherwise it was a good video
Sniper .93c Two of the few exceptions. In fact Vietnam it was primarily used by the ANZAC forces. In Rhodesia it was supplanted by the G3 and captured AKMs. The Falklands was its major war.
First video I'm seeing by this guy and Im definitely subscribing! I have always loved the FAL, and wish it appeared more in shooter games. Now I just need to save up the money to buy one for myself and take care of it like a child. Future gun videos suggestions: Mosin Nagant(if you havent already), P90, PP-19 Bizon, Desert Eagle(if not already featured), Kriss Vector.
Also, if I recall correctly, you can use 100 round magazines with the FAL in Ravenshield. So me and my brother would you the single fire to rapidly lay down suppresing fire after tossing smoke grenades down a hallway (with maximum enemy count set, 100 enemies).
What about the MP40? I haven't seen a WW2 shooter without this pitch black SMG. Maybe not the most "heroic" weapon (compliments of the Nazis) but it's still iconic nonetheless. The AK47 is used by evil terrorist groups, but he still reviewed it, yes?
I hate how the americans went "hurr durr, we need bigger bullets" then a few years later decide to pick up the m16 which has smaller rounds compared to the FAL
Bear in mind the M16 was NOT popular; Various faults, doubts about its calibre and its toy like appearance made it wiidely despised among the US troops in the early 60s, with many faults not being revised until the later A1 and burst fire A2 variants circa 1968
the 5.56 was also terrible in brush and jungle combat having a high perpensity to deflect off small branches. The m14 was more liked for that kind of stuff.
this weapon was a war hero in the jungles of Vietnam, the Australians used this weapon, and used it the way an Army should use the weapon, it is a great weapon,
Over here in Brazil the FAL is still used by some units within both the army and the military police, although now we're currently in the process of modernizing and replacing them for the home-made Imbel A2.
well... if you add all the casualties, destruction and duration from the colonial wars of the 60s and 70s where the FAL was extensively used, you'll got heavy conflicts. You can also count the Falklands war, the FAL was used by both sides.

"Why is such a widely used weapon, a relatively rare sight?"
We have truly come a long way since that line. Modern Warfare 2019, Insurgency, and Escape from Tarkov has brought the FAL back to public consciousness (at least in the gaming community) and has become a meta gun that stands equally in the face of the AR/AK rifles.
Just like in real life
Unfortunately the FAL in CoD is single fire only

The weapon was heavy and difficult to operate, especially for the girls, it was almost as if we were fighting the equipment itself. The phrases we heard the officers shouting the most were "Put more strength into this!" and "The weaponry is not old, it is just rustic!"
Because its a gun for a man among men

Well, that explains a lot.

Typical american attitude, really
the 5.56 was also terrible in brush and jungle combat having a high perpensity to deflect off small branches. The m14 was more liked for that kind of stuff.
+Sam L The M14 was too good of a gun in Vietnam
Mack Whitaker The M14 was a good gun but it was a bit cumbersome for jungle warfare
OH FUCK NEW VIDEO!!
Yay
FAAAACKKK
hell yeah
DICKS OUT
thats a cute profile picture
this weapon was a war hero in the jungles of Vietnam, the Australians used this weapon, and used it the way an Army should use the weapon, it is a great weapon,
Over here in Brazil the FAL is still used by some units within both the army and the military police, although now we're currently in the process of modernizing and replacing them for the home-made Imbel A2.
How are these always so god damn fucking good?
Ahoy always spends a ridiculous amount of time making these. It's always worth it.
work!
well... if you add all the casualties, destruction and duration from the colonial wars of the 60s and 70s where the FAL was extensively used, you'll got heavy conflicts.
You can also count the Falklands war, the FAL was used by both sides.
Plus the Port Arthur Massacre
