when I fall, I dont check my body for any injuries, but if my clothes are still good.
This comment is hilarious 😂😂😂 had a slip the other day, checked my bike , phone, clothes and then myself 😂
😂😂😂
I acknowledge that this channel is for the cycling enthusiasts out there with more money to spend on gear than the rest who have girlfriends or wives or kids to spend it on.
For us lot, Aldi/Lidl usually do some good cycling gear for very little money, especially in terms of waterproof cycling jackets, reflective gear, fingerless cycling gloves, etc which are all properly designed for cycling and dirt cheap. Then there is Decathlon sports which has a great range of cycling gear which is well designed and made and very good value.
I know Cycling Weekly aims a bit higher than the middle age man returning to cycling after 20 or so years but this is probably your biggest growing market for new subscribers, so maybe a video or two on 'Value Gear' for cycling newbies wouldn't go a miss.
What do you think??
As a former cycling enthusiast from the 1990s I have have just returned to cycling myself, having relocated from the Uk to Taichung in Taiwan for the next 2 years. Im looking to set up a cycling group and need some value ideas.
You make very good points but the problem is the effectiveness of the cycling gear from these smaller brands. I recently bought some cheap waterproof trousers and was drenched underneath which isn’t fun. I’m looking for gloves and trousers now.
Not for me, I can afford the expensive, quality best functional gear. I need it, because no girlfriend will stop me riding, as most try to do. Aldi’s junk won’t work well enough for me, I actually ride, all weathers not just the little ride with the girlfriend on Sunday morning. So if you are serious about your cycling, buy the best kit you can afford. Don’t skimp on a good rain jacket, when you’re miles from home and it’s ‘chucking it down ‘ you’ll just want the best gear, not the cheapest. Stay dry, stay comfortable and stay safe. Buy a good jacket this winter. Good luck.
Every time I've tried to cheap out on cycling gear I end up buying the reputable brand later and instead of cry once buy once I spend more then I would have just saving up and waiting a little longer to buy
Great information. This really helped me pick the right winter riding gear
Castelli thermosuit with Expresso jacket on top. Toasty. Northwave winter boots.
Also carry a square of Mylar space blanket for chest if really cold /-5
I used to use a skull cap in colder weather, but recently I've obtained a Gore Cycle Cap with ear flaps which combines the benefits of a skull cap with that of a cycling cap. Admittedly it looks a bit less "cool" off the bike however.
I like to have weather-specific shoes. I have a real collection, including awesome Sidi cold weather shoes.
Ollie, you forgot the "humble" Buff... 👍
How awesome they are, 3000 ft up Skiddaw and they are worth their weight in Gold 🥇
I never leave my house without a Buff. It is a lifesaver, especially the wool ones.
I really like waterproof winter shoes, because they are quick, easy, warm and I can use them all year round on rainy days if I use a pair of thin socks.
I also like my Rapha winter caps.
I cycle to work so I'm looking for some good overtrousers if you know of any thanks
Straight to the point compared to other videos.
If you have a thinner pair of gloves that aren’t as warm as you’d like for the weather, throw a pair of rubber gloves underneath. We do this in Karting and it helps a ton with keeping heat in.
Ryon Beachner Interesting, thanks for the tip!
all i need now is a huge wedge of cash
Great thanks 🙏🏽
unfortunately if I was to wear a size where I don't get bunching on my stomach I would have it be too tight in the chest. im sort of stuck buying a large but needing a medium in length
Wear dishwasher gloves in the cold rain, and wrap your toes in aluminum foil.
Im going to be wrapping my toes in aluminum today. I hope this works 😂😂😂
skullys are lifesavers
Ollie what base layer did you have on? I like the thumb loops as putting on a Castelli Perfetto over a long sleeved base layer is a sod.
Ollie, I picked up a Shakedry jacket (based largely on your review). Does the fabric ever need to be retreated with PTFE or Tekwash?
no.
Thing is though is not everyone has nearly a grand just for cycling clothing, most people's bikes are around that, one crash and it's all buggered,I got a jacket from aldi and it's so warm £16
does anyone have any opinions about clothing from DHB?
Obi Dave Kenobe I've got a pair of DHB Aeron bin shorts and I've found them very comfortable. I've done a few centuries on them with no issue. I've also got a Blok jersey which is ok, although the zip isn't as flexible as I'd like which has meant it points up or folds over when I'm in bent in a tuck.
No gilet?
Not long ago you were raving about the Assos bib tights??
7:00 min what are those extra cables?
cable to hydraulic converter!
Who prefers bibtights without a chamois so you can wear bib shorts or even regular cycling shorts underneath
Tights are useless in the rain, could have done with a bit more around waterprroh trous, if they work even
RIP cyclesurgery 🙏
he's wearing $1000 worth of clothing
JogBird and some women carry a $1000 handbag. If it’s what you enjoy and you have the means, you should enjoy it. Ever seen a luggage rack on a hearse?
No A.T.M.'s in a coffin.
True, but riding in $1000 worth of clothing in the rain and cold is not too bad, riding in $200 worth of clothing in rain and cold is not tolerable.
WHOSE HIS SPONSOR?
@@mryizhao bollocks. It is tolerable. You lot are fucking crazy
Waterproof jackets are a waste of money. It's all the fake marketing
This is really poor advice.....please note to avoid critical injury and death NEVER wear dark clothing or have a dark coloured frame. Life is valuable never squander it away by taking high risk situations. Deaths from bike accidents are on the increase because motorist dont see you.
Always wear bright light clothing and light coloured bikes. Never wear black....
Put lights on your bike... Black clothes are amazing!
