HASTINGS! Tourist heaven or tourist hell? 🇬🇧

- Hastings has been consistently ranked as the most deprived town in Sussex. It also has the highest crime rate in all of Sussex. Naturally I wanted to give it a visit.
We explore the tourist sights, the backstreets and the town centre.
In this video we check out the town to see what it's really like.

Scary place for sure
It’s not scary mate
@@Gottlovedogs123 I got mugged there yes it is scary 😦
@@mandymclan since I lived there for my whole life it’s not scary for me
@@Gottlovedogs123 I feel safer living in Hastings than I did living in London!
I moved here by choice from London 25 years ago!
Its culture and its people are remarkable ,
It is also extremely popular with tourists from around the world,
We are in September schools have returned, yet I cannot secure a place in my seafront car park due to the influx of visitors and tourists
Who obviously don't share your opinion!
Never once been confronted by any violence or threatening behaviour,
I wish I could say the same about my 50 years living in London!
Never judge a book by its cover!
This type of video leaves me cold
Happy to show you videos of the most expensive places in the country
Like Knightsbridge Chelsea and Kensington where you are a danger of having your watch or mobile phone snatched out of your hand!! By thieves on scooters! Check met police statistics.
Dangerous? I don't think so. This guy gave no real evidence for holding that opinion.

Pathetic
I have lived here for over 30 years & used to work on the doors in the town centre...it is not a dangerous place to live, although I have seen plenty of violent occurances & the criminality is high here, due to the lack of opertunities for people & disgracefully low wages.
@@BobWebb1066 I agree mate, well said
Best place to build a migrant centre is Hastings, the refugees are risking life and limb crossing the channel, maybe the locals can cook and wash their pants for them
Bollocks. Hastings at the moment is lovely. And he started off with false info. Hastings battle was fought over in Senlac not in the little hill he first pointed to. So wrong straight away. 😠 And the people of Hastings are friendly and accommodating and willing to help anyone. Unfortunately crime is everywhere and policing is shut everywhere.
As a Hastings resident of 40 odd years I think Hastings is great.
@@thorndog100 I couldn't agree more. Thanks for the comment 🙂
Hastings is great!! 👍😊😍

Deprived? Hastings? Man that’s just bs you looking for abandoned buildings it’s yuppy as f in the old town.
@@pervinmervin yeah the news seems to think so but when I went a month ago it was dead lovely mate!
I have one more comment. Our hotels here are so bad that they were not of a high enough standard for the migrants. Home Office and SERCO gave us a big mis. How lucky we are.

I ❤ Hastings, its my town. So many fabulous people live here, there are events every weekend. Hastings loves to party and music is at the heart of it. A very big community of creative people live here. It creeps into your soul and you can never truly leave ❤❤❤

Can't believe it's been quarter of a century since I visited Hastings and that was even February 2000 or so. Hasn't changed much, thankfully. Visited England first time in July 1981. Sad to see everything is changing for the worse. 😒
Greatest crazy golf courses down on their front.
0:33 you’ve already made a mistake although it is called the battle of Hastings the actualy battle itself wasn’t fought in Hastings it was about 5-6 miles away in a town named battle after the battle that was thought there it’s a common misconception that it was thought in Hastings as it’s called the battle of Hastings but it want actually

Hastings isn't dangerous at all... Very safe, I have lived here for 2 years.

Used to go on holiday there with my folks in the 1950’s, at Coombe Haven Caravan Site. If it rained we would go to the White Rock indoor pool which was great, the town also had an extraordinarily grand outdoor ‘Olympic’ pool… both sadly now gone! Visited the town earlier this summer & was pleasantly surprised by the positive vibe about the place, certainly better compared to how it was 10 - 15 years ago!
Im glad to hear that, everyone there was super friendly too 😁
I moved down from London 25 years ago and call it my home town now! I like it here and wouldn't want to go back to the Big Smoke.
Yeah I much prefer Hastings to London for sure!
I lived in Hastings in the early 2000's and I liked it. It's certainly a deprived area but the Old Town and Alexandria Park are both great places to visit. There are loads of good restaurants and it's a lot less pretentious than Brighton or London.
@@celticbro1 agreed, Hastings was very nice compared to much of the UK! Thanks for your comment:)
The battle was not at hastings but in a village called battle not far from hastings. People do get it wrong
@@allancarter3930 when I was pointing I was referring that the battle took place close to here not in Hastings which is common knowledge. Didn't make it clear

Hastings council play 2 instruments depending on circumstances, the violin or the trumpet.
@@johngreen6191 if Hastings council and the government cared about the people who lived there. Hastings would be one of the nicest places to live in Europe hands down
@@EdBrinton 10 minutes and I can be on train to London, 10 mins on the beach, 10 mins in the countryside. Where else can I do that? The thing is we have a lot of lazy people here, want everything done for them. Have kids and then expect everyone else to provide for them. Take, take take. No give. Problem with housing. People cant get off their BTM's. People have to be told and shown everything. Lazy.
@@johngreen6191 very true, and government does not care. Multi national businesses will move elsewhere as a result the high street is left empty
I love Hastings. The Aquarium, The Shipwreck Museum and the Fisherman's Museum are all worth visiting. The fresh fisn caught by the local fishermen are excellent. Usual amusement arcades are good. The gallery on the front is alson fine.
Honestly I really liked it, didn't feel in danger at all....

Nice video. I was living in Asia (forced to leave due to the political situation) but now back in my home country. I am very intetested in Hastings (I learned my ancestors came from there) and hope to go there soon. I hope you can try a walk around Bexhill. People say it's God's waiting room, it's quiet but is it really such a boring town? Also, I have heard good things about Folkestone, I have heard it's a 'cool' place, hope you can do a walk there too. The main reason Brighton prospered is the rail link to London and the universities. [Thank you Mrs Fitzhurbert.]
St Leonards was the deprived area but the DFL's have bought into it.
St Leonards is now cool because the 'developers' in the 90's could not see a profit in it and all the old shop fronts stayed unmolested. The council now conserve all the old frontages. You have a zero chance of being mugged in the town, always good for a visit. Great fish and chips.
Would a Brighton video be interesting?
@@EdBrintonYes. London by the Sea! Only the racecourse, the Volks Railway, the Pier and top less beach babes are worth the visit! 👍😉💯🇬🇧

Hastings has the very last beach launched fishing fleet, ive had many a great night out in the Old Town and ended up sitting on the clffs watching the boats leave and dawn rising. I wouldn't swap my time here for anywhere else. It's home and it's wonderfu unique and special. A bit of roughness is easily avoided. It has spirit unmatched by anywhere else.
