Laos is the most bombed country in the world, per capita, because of heavy aerial attacks in the 60s and 70s during the Vietnam War. The intensity and scale of this bombing was equal to one planeload of bombs every eight minutes, 24 hours a day, for nine years. Around 20,000 people-40 per cent of them children-have bee...

How these pundits compare Kent to say West or South Yorkshire or certain parts of Manchesteŕ and Lancashire is beyond me. I've been all around the North and North-West these past 25 years, and its a world apart from the sunny South. Thankfully, I didnt move up there and buy a cheapo terrace for under £30k. This was entirely possible a few years ago, but, the massive drawback would have been never being able to move South again. You should try to visit Bradford this year, the 2025 City of Culture. That will be an eye opener with all the bad publicity that region gets at the moment. 👍🤔
@@InvictaView will have a look mate for sure
Well done. A worthy top 5, but so many other towns need a visit from you. Ashford Broadstairs Folkestone Faversham Paddock Wood Sittingbourne Tenterden Tonbridge Even a top 10 would be difficult to pick. Some are nicer than others. 👍

Dover lived there for around 10 odd years was bad then and now its terrible. But also lived in Ramsgate, Margate, Canterbury and Folkestone all shitholes also take a look at Folkestone at the top ends around Dallas Brett area see what find there 👍

@@DoctorFigo don't watch it then mate 🧐
@EdBrinton Is that the best you've got? I like to do my research. Why be so negative? If you don't like those towns don't go there, same rhetoric
@DoctorFigo I like those towns minus sheerness wasn't my cup of tea. What are your best and worst towns in your opinion:)
@EdBrinton I don't really classify towns in that way. I'm a Man of Kent through and through, with ancestry here going back 100s of years. I admit that some places are nicer than others, and those you highlight have become somewhat run down, but I would say that's the case right across the UK. Partly, as you suggest in the video, due to poor central investment (14 years of Tory rule didn't help). I would also suggest that a massive influx of DFLs hasn't helped either. I've lived all around the county, Whitstable, Folkestone, Maidstone, Gillingham, Rainham, Gravesend. Worked all over the county too. I have lived elsewhere as well. Warwickshire, Hertfordshire and Northern Ireland and always come back to Kent. It's still beautiful county for the most part, and I love it. Man of Kent first, English second. I will watch your Best of Kent film in the interest of balance.
@DoctorFigo exactly mate it's the case in most of the UK now due to external factors, never the locals themselves. My grandad was from Jaywick which has a bad reputation and I'm from Tottenham so Kent in comparison is a great place. Good and bad anywhere as you say :)
To get an actual idea of how likely you will have a crime committed against you, you have to divide the number of crimes by population. of course Canterbury will have more crime than the corn field in the middle of farmer giles farm in the middle of nowhere. i live in this part of Canterbury and its lovely.
@@GeorgeStyles Canterbury is lovely:)
As someone who lives in Gillingham and has been to many towns in Kent I must say interesting list and some very unique takes. Personally out of the places I’ve been to in Kent if I had to do a top 5 it’d probably be something like this: 1. Maidstone 2. Rochester 3. Canterbury 4. Tunbridge Wells 5. Whitstable Honourable mentions: Faversham, Tonbridge, Herne Bay
@@pandurucatalin Rochester is a great shout! Definitely need to film there
maidstone i agree its nice with me being a bus enthusiast maidstone got nice buses nice places to i went in 2022 so i aint got a clue whats changed or whats not changed. i agree with rochester to its nice with the museum and the christmas market they have its nice with the public transport to and whitstable nice but i didnt think it was worth going to the beach but the chippy was good
My list would be 1. Canterbury (I'm aware it's a city) 2. Broadstairs 3. Sandwich 4. Folkestone 5. Faversham I haven't been to Sevenoaks or Tunbridge Wells but have heard good things about them! The Sandwich was named after the Earl of Sandwich when he was busy playing cards and he wanted his steak put between two slices of bread because he didn't want his game interrupted, apparently
Intriguing I never new he was an earl! Folkestone is a good pick I've heard they have a catacombs there too!

I grew up among the Medway towns during the 1970s and 80s. Chatham High Street was a marvellous shopping centre and it had some good night life spots too. This video makes me sad to see the decay there now. The word 'dystopian' was used appropriately in this video.
@@bowtiebetty820 I wonder how Rochester compares? Would love to visit sometime
I find such videos as this deeply depressing. No attempt to show anything in a positive light, just a clickbait title and relentless negativity. I moved to Gillingham in June for personal reasons. Are parts of the town deprived? Yes. Does it need local and national government investment? Yes. Would I rather live in Tunbridge Wells? Yes. But this is now my home town. People are friendly, it has character, there is a community spirit, and by the Medway there are some beautiful bits of countryside and interesting spots. I cannot speak for Sheerness or the other towns mentioned. Chatham is very similar to Gillingham I find. Once I retire I am going to work hard to help the local community in some way. What I will not be doing is making videos like this, telling people how s**t their town is.

Notorious City!!!! seriously!!! I'm originally a Londoner and moved to Dover 20 years ago. I have never, in all that time felt threatened by anyone but as you are someone afraid of tripping on a missing grating and was only here for a very short time I shall forgive you for having to 'find something nice about Dover'. I often go to 'Spoons' and have never, ever, witnessed any problems. Shame you didn't really speak to anyone who lives here. I doubt that there is a single town in the UK that doesn't have empty shops. If people were staring at you it's because you were walking along talking to yourself whilst filming. Illegal immigrants are bought to shore on a secure area of the port and are then housed in other parts of the country. Probably next door to you. Come back when the sun is shining when you don't feel so stressed by nothing at all. I so wish that your trip had been planned so that you could meet up with people who know and love the town.
I'm glad you've had a positive experience in Dover. So many amazing historical sights which I enjoyed. Id love to come back with a local to show me the best bits :)

SheerNESS. not SHEER ns. Criticise if you wish but at least respect my home by pronouncing its name correctly

@EdBrinton thank you so m7ch for your prompt reply.
@@Cecilia777100 no problem. I hope sheerness improves. It's the government hasn't funded it at all and left the locals to fend for themselves. Makes me angry. Also thanks for being kind back I appreciate that
Gravesend is horrible
No it's not. It's far better than sheerness, Chatham and Gillingham. Swanscombe used to be really nice in the 70s and 80s but that is a complete dump now the Dartford lot have moved in.
There’s no surprise that the worst towns are coastal places. Lots of industries have closed, lots of low incomes and poverty in those places. The Dover area for example had 3 coal mines until the 80’s, and is rough round the edges, but not a BNP stronghold as you alluded to.
@@FarmersBoy-0102 it's a shame isn't it
@@EdBrintoncertainly is. But overall Kent is a wonderful county, it’s very diverse with the impoverished coastal towns to some of the countries more affluent areas too. It also has fantastic scenery and history, and has a higher percentage of wooded/forested coverage than the majority of the entire southeast of England .
Also the prison that you say has been done up a bit is now a Mal Maison Hotel
@@josephstevenson9549 interesting mate!
Go back at about 7pm in the 1990’s and you would have been dodging fireballs and cars being joy rided around the BL estate
@@josephstevenson9549 was it different would you say
yes, very different, also the high Main Street in the town centre with all the McDonalds, KFC and the Bus station area gets a bit rowdy at night or at the weekend. You’re definitely right when you say that all cities have areas like Blackbird Leys and Oxford are nothing like the major cities for trouble. I really like Oxford and feel perfectly safe there, it’s like anywhere, don’t wander into quiet areas alone and you’ll be fine. Good video though, where are you off next?
@josephstevenson9549 exactly this bro and not too sure yet mate. Any recommendations?
@@EdBrinton depends what you’re looking for, is it just places that have a bad reputation? Lots of people doing that kind of content? You need to find a niche that isn’t being covered, that’s the ticket, rather than cities have you thought about the decline of market towns, where I used to live was once a thriving market town and has now gone to the dogs, loads of really interesting buildings too

True that brother

If you are going to slag off a town please pronounce it correctly. Like the majority of seaside towns Sheerness has suffered the same fate of a lack of investment and closure of main high street retailers. Putting that to one side . the community of Sheerness are kind and friendly, Sheerness is not dangerous, where did you get that information from. Not all people who live in Sheerness are deprived . We don’t have crackheads and homeless on the streets. I live in Sheerness and walk the streets safely. Why did you feel unsafe ?. Maybe visit the island when the sun is shining. And maybe meet some like me that can show you a better version of the town and the friendly people who live here. Not everyone with very little money feel deprived. It’s called life.
It's a shame the local and central governments have neglected so many seaside towns. Not the problem who live there's fault. Yet they have to pay the price. Such a shame mate :(

Most areas on the Thames estuary are unpleasant. I'm always surprised how the Kent side doesn't have the same reputation as Essex. There's quite extreme division here too- the odd posh market town and countryside are rich Tories. The rest of the towns are mostly ignorant chavs. Seems to be far fewer normal middle class folks than anywhere else I've lived. Definitely regret coming here.
