Peter's First Piano Recital -- "Minuet" by Leopold Mozart

- Here is a recording of my first ever piano recital. Since I had only been taking lessons for about a month, my piano teacher Antonela made this performance very optional for me. However, I knew my fear of playing in public would motivate me to practice more, so I agreed to do it.
This recital featured about 10 people, mostly piano and vocal performances, but all adults who take lessons at this music academy which enrolls mostly children. I was already very nervous, but they introduced a very nerve-wracking "popcorn" format where we were encouraged to just up and play our pieces in whatever order we wanted. I would have much preferred a per-ordained list of players, and I just kept sitting there longer and longer as people kept going, even though I would have loved to just go near the beginning and get it over with. As I mentioned in the video, I started to think I couldn't remember how to play the piece, and I hadn't brought my sheet music with me. I looked up the sheet music on my phone which made things almost worse since there was some odd disconnect between muscle memory and seeing the notes written out.
Eventually, partly thanks to the encouragement of some friends who were attending, I made it up there, it all came back to me as soon as I touched the keys, and I played the piece. I felt myself making small mistakes like not pressing certain keys hard enough or long enough, but I was just happy to be pressing the right keys. My fingers felt like jelly, and it all happened in the blur of a moment. I had previously been hesitant about my selection of such a simple and short song but quickly became thankful for it.
Phew! Here's to the next one! Thanks for watching this oddly harrowing experience.

Peter Draws… A CROWD!
As a musician, this is the most wholesome thing, IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN!!!
Peter in a suit, Peter playing a piano.
Actually really good for 1.5 months, played cleanly and with good rythm!
Took piano lessons for almost 15 years, and honestly this was absolutely lovely and well more than I would ever have expected from someone only taking lessons for such a short time. Well done!
Thanks! And I love the Sergeant Angel pfp :)
Dear Peter, I can’t tell you happy this made me today. I have been watching your channel since you started and was one of your first subscribers. I have watched you grow not just as a man, but as an artist and you are truly one of the most creative people I ‘know’; it has been my absolute privilege to witness part of your journey. My little person grew up watching you since she was tiny and you have been such an inspiration. They are 18 next month. One day, if you ever make it to the UK, I would love to meet you for a beer. Thank you for everything. With much love, Gael ❤
Even after playing the piano for 3 years, I don’t think I’d ever have the guts to perform at a recital. You can be proud of yourself Peter!
You are extremely likable! The audience was totally into your vibe!
This was exactly my first impression. Peter has great stage presence, completely grounded and calm! Great skill to have as a performer!
100% what a likeable guy. That is why we all like to watch his videos. Just a very cool dude!
As someone who has been playing the piano for 12 years, I am excited to see you discover new forms of art. Epic video Peter! Keep it up :))
Papa mozart would be proud
Papa Mozart would be absolutely honored to have “Peter Draws” play his piece! I cannot think of a higher complimentment. That totally rocks!!
Papa Haydn!
This was so fun to watch! I’ve been watching the channel for about a decade and you never seize to inspire me in whatever it is that you do. I admire your authenticity, and willingness to do the hard work required for growth. 💛
its so great to see adults as beginners and trying new things. It's never too late for anything. time is but an illusion. Im 30, and i see my younger brother touring the world, his 15+ years of dedication to drumming paid off and people know his name. I am very proud, I am not jealous, but i do feel slightly envious, as if i've lost out on developing skill and mastery in something (I had always wanted to be a musician) and feel like its too late, as i didnt begin/get serious as a child or teen(i was very depressed and lost as a kid). My boyfriend reminded me though, us as adults have maturity on our side, and can make more efficient use of time and focus and know how to cut the fat on things. There have been master musicians, actors and artists who too, started "later" in life. If you have it, it has always been there, and its never too late to start anything, as a hobby or to take it seriously.
Glad we could be there to witness (and capture) the magic!!
Peter: Renaissance Man. Is there anything he CANNOT do? The mind boggles. ❤
woooo, yay, that was lovely!! It's very admirable that you decided to do the recital even though it was optional! I always found recitals pretty scary, can't say I would have been brave enough to do the same, haha, so congrats on a successful recital!! :D
Very well done! I've played most of my life, and this was very impressive to me. 1.5 months is a very short time, especially for someone who didn't start at preschool age. We're all proud, and you should be proud too, bravo. And encore!
Hell yeah, Peter. That was awesome. ✌️
That's awesome, sounded like a nice, supportive and small starter sized group to play for. Your introduction was charming, and put a smile on my face, and you did well for a new player. I can't wait to see your progress.
I love recitals. They give you a goal to work towards and you can record them to see progress over the years. That's awesome Peter! Keep up the great work.
Congratulations Peter!🎉😊 That was a fabulous performance. And it tookreal guts to post it. Keep up the study and practicing, the piano is wonderful instrument and is quite versatile. Thank you for posting. God bless!
been watching you since 2013 and this is why i keep coming back. you're an inspiration peter!! thanks for what you do :)
Congratulations! A wonderful achievement! As a music professor who runs their own lesson studio I can say that you have done a great job in only a month and a half! Enjoy the process and great work!
Long time follower and piano player. Very impressed at how well you play for how long you have been playing! You played the piece very well, and you have a great memory. The dynamics were great, and so was your articulation! Keep up the good work, Peter!
Peter as excellent as you played, I really enjoyed your pre-playing banter/intro. Very charming!
Seeing you try different things is always a joy because I feel like you have a truly beautiful mind
I get so much joy from watching you try new things and do what you enjoy never stop peter
peter will always be cool
Well done. It was nice of you to share it with us.
BRAVO Peter .....more' more 'more ' cried the crowd.
peter!! this was so lovely to see you play so naturally after only taking a month n a half worth of lessons and forgetting yr sheet music!! congrats on going up on that stage n facing yr fears head on, I hope we’ll get to see more of your journey.
so happy i could cry
What a great job! I’ve been learning the violin off and on for years now, and I still haven’t gotten to a point where I feel even remotely comfortable doing a recital. I’m very happy for you!
Peter, that was just lovely!
proud of you
It’s not a slight on you. So I hope you didn’t take it that way. What they really meant was they couldn’t do it, because as adults we’ve been taught to fear failure. It’s a weird contradiction that we admire others for going for it but don’t always extend that same grace to ourselves. If we can accept that it’s ok not to be instantly brilliant at everything and that we may never be the best in the world and just enjoy the process of learning for learnings sake. Everyone’s lives would be so much richer.
@@thisnthat42 nah i took it how you explained it p much but i found that really depressing that there were all these ppl out there living as tho their lives are already over. i was so naive walkin round sounding like a disney movie lol. had to go thru a lotta failure and rejection myself to understand
as someone who's pursuing music in both my education and career, and someone who's also grappled with stage-fright and being performance-averse, this was a joy to watch and a braver undertaking than a lot of the college-level students / professional musicians i've seen perform.
the trick to piano performance is ironically to relax -- the more you're aware of what your muscles are doing, and the more you deliberately relax them when they tense up, the better the music flows. your channel has helped me with that in art and in music over the years and i think you're more than capable of climbing up that ladder. great job, keep it up :]
Peter, I have been watching you on and off for many years. BRAVO❣️❣️❣️ I am impressed and happy for you❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
This is one of the reasons you're one of my favourite content creators, Peter. You're open-minded, productive and at the end of a video, I feel like my time has been well spent. BRAVO SIR!
Bravo Peter! So Proud of you for this and all of your many accomplishments!
You’re amazing Peter, well done!!!
Bravo. I’ve been playing for 50 years and you did great.
Well done. Never stop playing piano! It only gets more fun from here!
Peter, not only can you draw but you can also play piano! Is there no end to your talents? Well Done, you nailed it 👍👌
I've played piano pretty much my whole life, and I've watched friends attempt to learn the instrument longer than you have without getting to this level. Very well done!
I love that you are learning piano!! Such a good skill to have!
U did it!!!! Thank you for encouraging us to learn something new too!
I’m a music major finishing up my senior year. Having to do this in recital lab every semester was terrifying, but so rewarding seeing progress over time. Much respect🫡
Delightful! Thank you for sharing with us.
Loved it so much. Inspiring to see someone pursue life with as much passion as you do, and with such drive to pick up new skills. Thank you for sharing.
I used to play piano when I was younger and I *hated* doing piano recitals but you slayed this one Peter!
I'm a piano teacher. This brought me so much joy! Keep up the good work
Omg you're dynamics in the B section! Brought a tear to my eye (love it when students play dynamics)
Watched this about 5 times now, I just feel so whimsical listening to that piano lol
Never ceases to amaze me! Thanks for bringing us along on your first recital Peter! Well done❤️👍
Yeah!! Loved it, what a great performance!
Fantastic start to what will be a lifelong journey
As a guy who plays music and runs a music school for a living: I gotta tell you peter...that was really impressive!
It's cool that you have the piece memorized with only a handful of lessons under your belt. keep it up!
Since you're so creative, I would love to hear you compose something on the piano!
Thanks for sharing - be so proud - amazing to learn as an adult to acknowledge how nerve-wracking recitals can be and to let the world see all of it and normalise we can all do what we care about at any point in life. 🥰
That was womderful, Peter!!! I so loved it!!! Congratulations on your very fast progress with the piano! I am already in awe.of what i could be hearing frpm you at this time next year!!! Enjoy 🎉☺️
Art and Music always go hand in hand. Can't have one without the other. Bravo
Bro you’re a legend mad respect for all you do.
Ive play piano (keyboard) most of my life, self taught so my finger placement is mostly not correct and cannot for the life of me read and play at the same time ( I have to hear it or have it in my head first) and I can honestly say that I can count on one hand the amount of times that I have been able to play anything in front of another person ( I even put headphones on while home alone)😂. I am so proud of you for sharing this new talent with us and others and glad you are getting the support and appreciation you deserve ❤😊
yay Peter!! to exit comfort zone is to evolve.
this guy can do everything!!!! proud of you, peter
Proud of you, man. Takes a lot if guts to perform in feont of other people--let alone perform as well as you did. Thanka so much for sharing this with us.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Bravo!!! Go Peter!!
🎉🎉🎉 The guts it takes to perform something, and to that in a fairly new skill/ medium, is so impressive! I think you are so cool Peter! Inspiring!
That was amazing Peter, keep at it! Honestly for such a short amount of time your doing great.
Well done Peter 🎉 you looked very comfortable doing that even though you might have been nervous. You are so inspirational, i love how you try new things and find more ways for self expression. Bravo 🎉⚘️👏🥰
Hullo Peter, I commend you sir! Well done! I do not know anyone who would attempt a recital after only 1.5 months! I believe there are talented people and for them, they just get it and are able to grow at a faster pace than the rest of the population. Everyone can learn, it just depends upon on how much they put into it! I do hope you continue your musical adventures and sharing them with us is a true delight, Thank You! I look forward to your next adventure in music or drawing, painting, sculpture!
Congratulations Peter, this is awesome. I am also an artist and I really appreciate your perspective and attitude (as you show it). I've also had lifelong aspirations of being musically competent, so it's really cool to see you get out there and actually do it! Keep it up and keep us updated occasionally. :)
This is so sick, it can be a little tricky going from one artform to a completely unrelated one, this is really well done
As someone who has learned a few different skills (juggling, among my proudest) I can say that I would not have expected something this good after 1.5 months. I wouldn't have expected something half this good. Learning something like this takes time.
Great work!
Genuinely proud of you 👏🏻😊
Wow - way to go Peter! Very good performance.
Well done Peter! I’m impressed!🎹
Well done, Peter! I'm so proud of you!
congrats peter! piano and music is always rewarding and it takes a lot of courage to get up on stage
I love this guy so much man
You nailed it. Hell yeah.
Sounds great to me !!! Congrats!
Well done!!! Honestly that's very good for only about a month of piano lessons!!! Keep at it, you're doing so well!!
This was beautiful! Bravo!
Peter! Nice work. ♥ I haven't been on UA-cam as much recently, but had to jump on this one - thanks for sharing.
I was turning on my LED candles while listening, and started lighting with the beat 😊Thank you Peter! You did great!
Yay, Peter!! Performing is so scary and you did great! I couldn't do that after just a few lessons, well done!
Just wanted to say well done! Love your drawing content but I'll certainly be looking forward to more music by Peter!
your dedication to learn more about art in all its forms is truly inspiring ❤ been watching since paulizumab or whatever your old channel name was
Man, I got nervous even though I only watched a video of you doing a recital! Your stage persona was so nice and the music was so lovely! I had to clap along with the audience when you finished :)
I've taught piano to adults before, and I've gotta say it seems like you've done very well for just a month and a half! Good dynamics and articulation. Well done memorizing, too-I didn't hear any slip-ups. Keep it up!
Way to go Peter 🎉
You did awesome! When I took piano lessons back in the 80's, I didn't know the school did recitals. I just went in for my lesson and my teacher said we needed to prepare a piece for the Christmas recital. Umm, WHAT? LOL! Glad it was sprung on me then because I'd have been fretting about it all along otherwise. It gets easier the more you do it.
Righteous. Rock on Peter.
Great job and for such a short amount of time of lessons! ❤ I had lessons for about 4 years and our teacher always had a recital for us once a year. I was way too nervous each time but did fine. Always had to memorize the piece. You also do well on the guitar.
This made my day thanks peter
This is awesome!
That’s awesome.
Dude this is so amazing
Relatable as HELL
Kudos on the memorization, and GREAT TIMING. Big thumbs up
Wonderful. Bravo.
Great work Peter!!
Thank you Peter!
Peter Pianos Peacefully, thank you for sharing:)
