The Wikipedia stub article reads: "The dragonpop genre is characterized by its wispy composition of air instruments and use of piano keys in the higher octaves along with a gently rumbling bass and lightly tapped cymbal. Some songs feature the musical tinkling of bells."
Actually, it kinda is. The music on this game was composed by Stewart Copeland of 80s band The Police. A big part of why I love this game. I remember picking this up the day it came out on my 19th birthday. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Copeland had contributed to the game.
The theme to Tree Tops is ingrained in my memory. The imagery I get is just Spyro plummeting to his demise as I misjudge glide after glide. I remember that level being a bit scary and intimidating as a kid.
I'll probably cry if I ever play Spyro again. It was my favorite game to play with my big sister while growing up, and just hearing this makes me miss her so much.
What I love the most about this soundtrack, it is that emphasizes a lot on drums . When I used to play spyro I would think"geee this music is beautiful, great drummer, these guys must be japanese...", then years after I discovered the main cause about this ost emphazising on drums... it is because it was made by one of my heroes and a great rock drummer... Mr Stewart Coppeland!!!. Hope he get's on youtube from time to time to check these comments and learn how happy he made us all. Almost 20 years after I played spyro, I still put this music while working on my job excel docs... and I wonder.
Growing up with this game and haven beaten the trilogy 200-300 times I’ve found it super relaxing to fall asleep to the sound track. It brings back a certain comfort that nothing can give me anymore. Thank you Stewart Copeland.
***** There only been a couple people (from my guess) a little older than me that have paused for half a second and whispered "Spyro" My reaction with the help of nostalgia "Oh yeah!"
This is bringing back memories I didn't know I still had... It's actually really profound. I understand how patients with degenerative memory can recover seemingly lost memories with music
Listening to these old video game soundtracks from my childhood is torture. This game and Crash Bandicoot were the first two games I ever played when I got my 1st PS1 ages ago. I don't know whether to be happy or to cry. I don't know why I do this to myself haha.
Brings me right back to playing Spyro with my then 6-year-old daughter. Ice Cavern is one of my favs...that baseline! She took down every boss including Gnasty Gnorc.
Awww my son is 22. This was the first game we bought him when he was 6 also. I played it with him to help and then got totally hooked myself 😂😂 He got really good too, and we bought all the games to follow. So many memories!
Its sad to know a generation after us will never get the experience of having the nostalgic flashback of being a little kid again staring up at a box tv waiting to beat the next level of spyro the dragon.. Memories
Man I completely agree. I'm 12 rn, and the first console I ever had was my family's old ps1. I'd spend the first half of my life after school grinding these games and trying to beat the next level. It's a shame games even remotely close to this are still following a different theme, even if there isn't many games like this. I'm so glad there is rumors spreading from someone noticing the spyro 4 trademark. I personally think early 2000s/late 90s games, 80s music and 90s pc software was elite. I hate the fact that I never grew up with last generations culture.
They will. With different games. Being a kid is still being a kid whether it's the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s, or the future. This soundtrack provides a similar feeling that hundreds of other games do for adults and teenagers around the world
These songs were buried in the deepest parts of my memory for over 20 years now and listening to them here brought all the nostalgia flooding back. I loved Spyro as a kid. Great game. Probably one of my favorites and one I have tons of fond memories playing. I enjoyed the second and third pretty well too, but nothing beats the classic.
at the second song i just HEARD IN MY HEAD how i rescue nestor and he says "Thank you for releasing me, Spyro. Free ten dragons in the Artisans world, then find the balloonist. He'll transport you to the next world." "What about Gnasty Gnorc? I'm going after him!" "Find dragons first. That's all I can tell you." *CLACK* *PPPPSSSCH* and then he was gone. i looved it! i can speack with the dragons trhough the whole game!
What a great reminder! Mine is the Gargoyle's first encounter speech with Sir D. Fortesque from Medievil I. "It has risen again Sir Daniel Fortesque. See? The Hero of Gallowmere who fell at the first charge! The fog of war and the shrouds of time conspired to turn the arrow fodder into the savior of the day. But we know better!"
This is the best OST of all time. There is no other that tops it. Anyone reading this that thinks I'm wrong, please please show me a bigger bop than this. I'm almost 30 and have loved this since it came out when I was like 5 or 6. I used to just let the Dark Hollow song play for hours... It drove my mom nuts.
Also am I the only one that realized that the second level in almost every home world has the same bassline? It's damn close in Dark Hollow, Cliff Town, Misty Bog, AND Lofty Castle.
Dark Hollow, Toasty, & Ice Cavern are forever classics for me. Probably my favorite OST of all time, the little "whoos" in Ice Cavern are so nostalgic for me. I used to leave this game running 24/7 bc I didn't have a memory card. Good times lol
Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mega Man X, Freedom Planet 1 & 2, Super Metroid, Pokémon Black & White, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Sonic Mania, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Penny's Big Breakaway, Mega Man Zero 4, Banjo-Kazooie, Undertale, Pokémon Emerald, The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures, Shovel Night, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Mega Man ZX, Super Mario Galaxy, Sonic Adventure 2, Splatoon 2, Sonic CD, Banjo-Tooie, Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X Corrupted, Cuphead, Super Mario RPG, Castlevania Order of Ecclesia, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, Sonic R, Metroid Prime 2, Final Fantasy VII, Pizza Tower, Xenoblade Chronicles, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Persona 5, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney... Those are SOME of the games that I can think of right now that have better OSTs than this game imo, but hey, music taste is completely subjective and nostalgia can be a strong factor in each person perspective so if you really think there is no better OST than this one, that's completely fine.
*As a child growing up in the 2000s, I absoloutely love Spyro! I put my life and soul into this game everyday. I play it 24/7, it's like my life! The original Spyro games made by Insomniac (Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2 Gateway to Glimmer/Ripto's Rage and my overall favourite, Spyro Year of the Dragon) have to be my first loves. It seemed to run in my blood line, my mum still stays up at **3:00** AM in the morning just to kick Gnasty Gnorc's butt. I can't help thinking how lucky kids in the 90s were to have Spyro! Even though there's thousands of games today, all the Spyro games will forever remain my favourite, nothing can ever ever ever beat the three original Spyro games for me.*
Childhood was the best, everything is so pure I sure do miss the 90s and early 2000s. I miss waking up eating a bowl of cereal and watching cartoons then playing ps1 with my brother. Nostalgia is a very powerful emotion.

How is it possible that an entire soundtrack is THIS good and still holds up? Spyro the Dragon is one of my all time favorite games, and the music is a huge factor as to why.
I still have this game in it's original format for many years I got mines way back in the day during the days of the PS1, never gets boring I never give or sell my games in any way thank goodness!! One of the best games.
IMPERIAL THRASHER Born in 1996, still played this two or three years after it was released in 1998. In early 2000 I was already there trying to fuckin' beat Tree Tops and open that mysterious green dragon mouth at the end of the game at the age of 6, more or less, and now I'm getting nostalgia with all of you guys. Feels good to know that people are feeling pretty much like me, having shared with them some great experiences like Spyro the Dragon (and the sequels). We rocked our childhood!
Not sure why they didn't keep such a distinct theme as the first one throughout the rest. As much as I love Copelands work his later stuff felt more and more over-processed. While Spyro the Dragon has a much cleaner sound signature. Ultimately Spyro 1 did have a better theme overall. Mystical, magical, and wonder inspiring, sparking your imagination so much. They slowly lost their simplistic charm as the series went on, introducing more and more characters that made the games actually feel more childish and gamified. Spyro 1 dropped kids in a world and left them to their devices with minimum exposition and hand-holding. Lets not even mention modern spyro games... I kind of feel sad for kids, games don't promote imagination or wonder anymore, they've become all hollywood with explosions and 'wacky' characters in your face all the time. P.S. Ice Cavern is a masterpiece.
I prefer Spyro 2's for the added variety, but I know what you mean, since I find 3's soundtrack to just have way too much weird sample stuff. There are still some golden nuggets there definitely. But 2 just hits the sweetspot for me. It feels like it doesnt deviate too much and still manages to have a cohesive sound. Weird enough, I have been ripping the soundtrack from the games themselves (I realize they arent the highest possible quality anymore, since the Reignited introduced some really high quality original masters, but I still think it's fun to rip them), and for some reason Spyro 1's track seems to be in stereo while rest of the games are in mono, which definitely gives Spyro 1 an edge.
This epic soundtrack takes me back to sweet childhood memories on my first ever Playstation game and will help me cope with the exams approaching. Thank you so much
also, I'm 13 and this game, including crash and spongebob the movie were literally the top three games I played as a 3-7 year old. listening to this makes me wanna cry yo
(sry for not that correctly english) Eventhough I'm 14, I had experienced most of the games which were released in the 90s or early 2000s in my early childhood. Since two years I try to experience all the games which were released back then, I've also sold my PS3 so that I can afford a PS2 XD. And I love them (especially the Spyro, Ratchet and Clank and Rayman Franchise). They have their own charme, equal gameplay and a great world to offer. It really grinds my gears that the kids today are only buying this lifeless, commercial shit like CoD or other 08/15 shooter games, while the classics are getting forgotten more and more. The only focus of the publishers nowadays is to overtrump other publisher I wish I was born in the late 80s or early 90s and experienced the whole stuff. And what pisses me more of is that nearly nobody I know, knows about these glorious Franchises, the only thing the most of my Friends know that has sth to do with spyro is Skylanders -.-. Thank you
Thank you so much for uploading this masterpiece, thank you so much Stewart Copeland. You're the genius behind my very childhood, and all of your tracks are wonderful. And thank you very much, to the uploader who has let relive my childhood. Even though it may be impossible to go back through the passage of time, it is great to enjoy how wonderful and imaginative the soundtrack was.
Man, you can really tell Copeland spent alot of time in the Middle-East. I never knew the Spyro OST was composed by Copeland, I just found out, but have always thought the music in Spyro sounded very outlandish. Incredible music. Truly unique in how it makes me feel.
Josh Mancell mentioned in an Interview (one of the few that you can find online) that Copeland spent some of his childhood in the Middle East, and that informed his approach to percussion. It makes "Scorch" off of _Ripto's Rage_ a rare treat in terms of skillful appropriation.
He was raised in the Middle East, actually! His father Miles Copeland Jr. was a CIA intelligence officer during the Cold War, & was involved in getting oil from the Middle East to the US before the Soviets did, so naturally Stewart & his family spent a lot of time in the Middle East.
***** No way. Everything is better as it is originally. I cannot stand all these remakes of classics like Final Fantasy VII and such. I like the polygons, and really, it isn't the graphics that make a game, but the story, character development, and soundtrack. Also, the time period, and this video game is just old, that is how it is and it is a part of its character
***** I wouldn't mind a hd version either.. I still like the old style, but a polished version would be awesome. Like, give Spyro real claws and spikes on the back. Make the crystal dragons partly transparent and put a flame inside. Sharper textures all over. Realistic water. Stuff like that. All of it while keeping gameplay and frame intact.
MeanderingWayfarer 092 By remake, he doesn't mean redoing the soundtrack or gameplay... just the graphics. I'd say a remake would be pointless and detrimental too if they touched aspects of the game, but if they just updated the graphics, it would be awesome.
MeanderingWayfarer 092 Well said my friend. Although I think may have just said that because he or she likes the game would like to see another one. This game isn't that old though. It's only a teenager. Haha.
I was 9 years old when this game came out. Last night, I got the reignited trilogy for my 7 year old daughter. Watching her get sucked in, teaching her to play, knocking out an egg thief for her, oh man. The nostalgia is REAL! Love this music!
Can y'all believe that this little guy was Insomniac's baby way way back before Ratch & Clank took the reigns for the PS2 era. And by God, this little dragon deserves a honest to goodness come back after missing out on Two generations of consoles.

Let me tell you why with only one word, you guessed it: Nostalgia
Now it's all just a bunch of 2 steps from hell epic jargon...
the memories. THE F**KING MEMORIES.
Seriously! My inner child has awakened listening to this
+John Mahmud i m shaking help me i need my ps1 back and this game .d
*****
I still have the game, and am glad I do. But feel free to get your hands on an emulator if you can't find it.
i searched for the game but i couldn t find any people who are selling this game so i need to try a emulator ,d
You can by the whole trilogy in the PSN store for 5.00$ each!
I can always hear the sounds of the level's enemies dying as I listen to the music. Amazing soundtrack
I've got everything etched into my skull 0_0
Joachim Vestøl "LAH LAH LA-LA-LA, HEHEH!!"
+Viking War Pickle it's nyeh nyeha nyeh, hehehe, you see in spyro 3 that two thieves are called the nyeh nyeh gang
+Shinyhunterlobo and ShinyhunterRaven That Is The Kind Of Shit That Pisses Me Off
lah lah? smh
Watch this music become its own genre. Although, it would be a microgenre like vaporwave and seapunk. We could call this one "dragonpop."
GS195 lol im working on a spyro themed dub song atm. gonna be some spyro dub
I might be one year late here but nah mate, it would be called Spyrock
Agreed!
I am crying, the nostalgia is too much
I cant pick a name same
Legit tears smiling
Which nostalgia?
1:48:06 I can hear that green bastard with the key in my head. Took me forever to chase it when I was little.
+Nads nah nah nah nah nah ha ha ha ha
+Nads "nah nah nah nah nah ha ha ha ha"
+Nads Me and a friend took turns - we had to soak our thumb in cold water in between.
NAH NAH NA NA NAH
boxersnatcher i am also a tease.
The theme to Tree Tops is ingrained in my memory. The imagery I get is just Spyro plummeting to his demise as I misjudge glide after glide.
I remember that level being a bit scary and intimidating as a kid.
The entirety of the Beast Makers and Dream Weavers worlds were extremely difficult to me tbh, it just kind of took memorizing which paths to use.
Same here, i almost hated that level.
Dream Weavers was one of my favourite worlds :3
@@mariacuellar4764 me too!
it's also got a 3:4 polyrhythm in the refrain!!
So nice to have this playing in the background, on a neverending loop, for all time and eternity...
Fuck yea!
Copeland you are one clever bugger!
right? he did such a great job making this
Amanda show
"I'm Red." said Copeland
bigger is an old English word for anal sex
This spyro has the best music for sure, it's all relaxing and good in a way i can't describe
Perfect music to study to or relax to.
You're goddamn right
I know exactly how to describe it: Nostalgia
@@turkey3gwiddle I was just thinking the same! 😂 Studying atm
That’s called nostalgia, and it makes us recall a blissful time in our lives
Growing up with this game and haven beaten the trilogy 200-300 times I’ve found it super relaxing to fall asleep to the sound track. It brings back a certain comfort that nothing can give me anymore. Thank you Stewart Copeland.
Yay I thought I was weird
The Toasty theme song is by far the greatest. I just love the Spyro music...
Always come back to this for brainstorming background music!
me too
It's pretty cool that this Stewart Copeland album came with a free game!
As every song played I knew exactly what level it was from :x
To compose music which induces remembrance. Its the mark of a good soundtrack, composer and game to accompany it
When I heard the music for the first level which has the thieves who steal the eggs all I could think of was "nyea nyea nyea nyea nyea."
Yep, such a great soundtrack.
"Hehehehehehe…"
***** RIP
this needs to be the soundtrack to everyday life.
Right now it is.
HyuugaCharlie I blast this stuff in my car and people give me strange looks because they don't know where it's from! lol
MisterPringle Yesss glad to know I'm not alone on that!
***** There only been a couple people (from my guess) a little older than me that have paused for half a second and whispered "Spyro"
My reaction with the help of nostalgia "Oh yeah!"
Dude that's s cool you blast it in your car! I should do the same.
Daily reminder: No sheep were harmed in the making of this game...a few gnorcs but no sheep.
What about Toasty?
This had such a huge impact on my music tastes as an adult
This is bringing back memories I didn't know I still had...
It's actually really profound. I understand how patients with degenerative memory can recover seemingly lost memories with music
One of the greatest soundtracks ever made. The Nostalgia is REAL. man this was my childhood.
Oh my, what a nostalgia bomb. So many good memories. I loved this game to pieces, and it has one of the greatest soundtracks I've ever heard.
Listening to these old video game soundtracks from my childhood is torture. This game and Crash Bandicoot were the first two games I ever played when I got my 1st PS1 ages ago. I don't know whether to be happy or to cry. I don't know why I do this to myself haha.
Yeah, it's like deciding whether to charge or flame.
In all honesty, the remastered version is great but it will never top this. The retro quality just gives it that extra vibe.
So many memories!

its 2019 and i still can't let go of spyro's soundtracks
Such an amazing soundtrack. There's something so unique about these songs, lofty castle is such an epic composition.
Its sad to know a generation after us will never get the experience of having the nostalgic flashback of being a little kid again staring up at a box tv waiting to beat the next level of spyro the dragon.. Memories
It's not sad now
Man I completely agree.
This soundtrack provides a similar feeling that hundreds of other games do for adults and teenagers around the world
@@chilipeppers9728 you are growing up with it just in a different Era 🙂
i always still hear the gnorc and the waterfall in the opening theme and all the menu sound effects
I listened to this.
I cried.
Same
Brings back simpler times as a kid 😢
This is one of those soundtracks that stays with you FOREVER.
It's missing charging feet noises and the sounds of sheep going poof. :(
8 years+ later and I still use this master piece to fall asleep to. I dont think theres a better ost out there.
IMO this and halo are close
This Soundtrack is a work of art! It is a crime against the world that it never saw official release as an OST.
Masterfully crafted tunes for a magical game.
Lofty Castle was my personal favorite because it reminds me of my happy place. PS (i still have spyro the dragon in my ps1 hooked up to my tv) lol
that one is the TR!PP!EST.
I agree 100% . Oh my I loved everything about this game.
I didn't think anything could trump minecraft until I played Spyro on the PS1 emulator while listening to George Carlin.
Just the absolute best platformer. I don't have any problem going back to them time and time again
Stewart Copeland is a genius. Thanks for posting this, it's among my favorite VG soundtracks!
Wow this instantly reminded me of hearing the sounds of Spyro running around and smashing vases while Sparx is picking up the gems.
+Seth Kael The music didn't for me, but my god did your comment.
Seth Kael May be a year old comment but thumbs up on your profile pic
Man! This makes me want to plug in my PS from 1995 and play this game again. It's been in storage for 14 years. 3:34 is my favorite of the game.
If you pull it out, I'm sure you won't regret it. :)
Childhood was the best, everything is so pure I sure do miss the 90s and early 2000s. I miss waking up eating a bowl of cereal and watching cartoons then playing ps1 with my brother. Nostalgia is a very powerful emotion.
Those were the best times, in general...👌👍
I can name every damn level just by hearing the songs. Spyro is life.
All the twinkly sounds + the piano organ - just brings back to being 5. They make me so happy :)
This made me cry listening to this again, it has been so long
You should get the spyro reignited trilogy. The music has been done again but it sounds just like the original. Soooooo good
Holy shiet 100,000 views. EDIT (And now almost 200k!) EDIT2 (And now over 300k! Wowie!) EDIT3 (And now over 400k!)EDIT4(half a mili??? whattt)
**thanks for a million views :)
+Glakatations Thank Spyro for being so awesome~ o/
+Glakatations It's good to listen to whilst doing other things. Thank you for music! : D
+Glakatations I listen to this every week now for months.
I feel the same way
+Glakatations It deserves at least 10 times that figure!
i love this game so much, i still play it
This is like me childhood hero. I love this little dude. And this takes me back. *Gets lost in memories*
These soundtracks bring back so many memories from about ten years ago. I love this music! It makes me feel so nostalgic. ^.^
How is it possible that an entire soundtrack is THIS good and still holds up? Spyro the Dragon is one of my all time favorite games, and the music is a huge factor as to why.
This was the first video game I ever played, christmas 2007 when I was 4 years old, so many good memories.
Note to self: 52:11 Wizard Peak. Years ago on SACopeland's site it was titled Frogger
us 90's kids had the best childhood.
remember wonderballs?
I still have this game in it's original format for many years I got mines way back in the day during the days of the PS1, never gets boring I never give or sell my games in any way thank goodness!! One of the best games.
IMPERIAL THRASHER i am born in 00 and this was my favorite game...in fact i had playstation 1
IMPERIAL THRASHER we sure did... =')
I was born in the early 2000's and I grew up with this game being the FIRST I've played :D
Listening to this the day the remaster was announced!!!
i can hear the sound of gems being picked up burned into the back of my mind when I hear this
bzzz bling bzzzz bling bling
This epic soundtrack takes me back to sweet childhood memories on my first ever Playstation game and will help me cope with the exams approaching. Thank you so much
THE DRUMS AND PERCUSSION IN DARK HOLLOW WTF 😩👌🏽
Straight Fire!!!!
also, I'm 13 and this game, including crash and spongebob the movie were literally the top three games I played as a 3-7 year old. listening to this makes me wanna cry yo
(sry for not that correctly english)
Eventhough I'm 14, I had experienced most of the games which were released in the 90s or early 2000s in my early childhood.
The only focus of the publishers nowadays is to overtrump other publisher
I wish I was born in the late 80s or early 90s and experienced the whole stuff.
And what pisses me more of is that nearly nobody I know, knows about these glorious Franchises, the only thing the most of my Friends know that has sth to do with spyro is Skylanders -.-.
Thank you
gr8 b8 m8
+derlui Haha, I'm young and COD SUCKS!
SPYRO AND PARAPPA ALL THE WAY!
+derlui I'm 15 right now and I also had experience with the 90s classics when I was young nostalgia at its finest
Good times playing this game with a friend I had. The soundtrack is a special part of this and other early Playstation games. Thank you Mr. Copeland!
This game is in god tier this was my favourite childhood game
1998... over 20 years ago. Age gets us all.
"Father time is undefeated." Sports journalists
Tree Tops...
Haha! yes.
We don't talk about that level... *shudders*
Scott The Mighty That was my favorite level. I loved supercharges omg.
Coyotalia I COULD NEVER 100 IT! Bad memories, my friend..
Fuck that level, although I still eventually beat it.
Powerful nostalgia....ever thankful. Bless all who understand.
I wish they put this game and crash bandicoot in hd.
Ok man...
MeanderingWayfarer 092
By remake, he doesn't mean redoing the soundtrack or gameplay... just the graphics.
Dad had this with the ps1. Used to play this all the time. I miss old times... 18 now and I used to play this when I was 6-10 years. Makes me want to cry a little. The nostalgia... Thanks for uploading dude!
Stewart Copeland outdid himself with this Soundtrack.
I played this soundtrack for my 7 year old niece and she loved it!! She is not really into video games but I love the fact that what is considered Nostalgia for us is just good music to others!
Lofty Castle... My God the nostalgia... Still my favourite Spyro game.
The first game i ever 100%, the very first game ive ever played, and what started my love of gaming. Spyro has so many good memories for me, thanks a ton for uploading the whole OST in one video :) this takes me back man.
These were the times when Spyro was good...
I listen to this routinely while grading my students' essays, and I have listened to this so much I no longer need to double check to know which level's track is which...no complaints here
Wish this ost had a vinyl release.
The nostalgia! These soundtracks were part of my childhood.
My favorites are Beast Makers, Blowhard, Tree Tops, and Magic Crafters, but I love them all. Thanks for uploading this for us!
Best Soundtrack ever. I love everything about it!
Brilliant, I'm a nine year old again lol. 1998 was the year my folks bought me my first Playstation and I was so lucky that some of the best games with the best soundtracks came out that year, tekken 3 and Metal Gear Solid for example. Makes you want to go hunt it out the cupboard
I really enjoyed the fact that the playstation boot up noise was played at the end. That was icing on the cake.
I absolutely love this game. I fell in love with the whole story line and characters. I just finished it 120%!!! I had such a blast.
