I love rescuing plants from their native natural environment and putting them into a planter box.

When she said "rescued it" I was thinking she found it in a dumpster or on a dying plant rack at a big box store. Nope. She stole it from its happy place in nature and put it where she wanted it.

I live further inland than where it grows. Can I still grow it in my garden in the middle of the state? (Near Winston-Salem)

Thank you for teaching us! Wow! I live in north middle Alabama. Does Yaupon grow near me? I have just subscribed! I began gardening this year for the first time, and I am 65! 😊 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Awe, thank you for leaving a comment! Yaupon does grow in Alabama in the Coastal regions with sandy soils. I am brewing a cup of Yaupon tea right now with lemongrass, ginger, and mulberry leaves. I am SO happy to hear that you started gardening. I hope you find some wild herbs in your yard:)

I think i've identified it but not sure. Are there multiple varities? Trunks of mine here have splotches of light grey and darker. They are also producing bright red berries in parts of the trees.

I wonder if it's the same yopon we have that's quite invasive in Northwest Florida. It fits the description and we call it Youpon. It's poison to livestock so we kind of have to keep cutting it back and getting rid of it unfortunately

Yes it should be the same. It's not invasive. The reason you wouldn't want yaupon close to your home is it's highly flammable.
She says in the video there's a plant called privet that is invasive. Maybe that's the one that's bad for your animals? Animals (birds, opossums, raccoons, etc) can eat yaupon berries.

It can’t be invasive. It’s a native plant.
