beautiful!! This medicine has never been forgotten by native americans
Great story. Much success to these two sisters!
Although I have this growing on my property, I just purchased the Multipack - Yaupon Teabags.
They ship to the UK! Made a great Xmas present for a friend of mine who loves teas.
Isnt it always the way that invasive unwanted plants/weeds are able to spring up in the most diverse conditions. I just realized that what I love most about TCR is that you highlight and celebrate so many artisans that use their intuition and skills to hone their expertise. Old fashioned is what I call it and its super high on my interest list. I celebrate you all. Many thanks once again.
I grew up in Bryan in the 80s before our family moved to north Mississippi and i planted a yaupon in my backyard a few years ago. I never knew they could be used this way, how cool! I must have a male because it never produces berries but stays green all year here.
I also just transplanted it this morning to another spot in the yard so hopefully it stays strong with lots of watering.
P.s i haven't seen an episode of TCR since i was in my early teens in texas over 30 years ago😄
Can the leaves of the ornamental dwarf yaupon holly bush be used for tea??? I have that growing on my property.
Yes. As long as it's "Ilex vomitoria" you can be assured that it's a caffeine-producing Yaupon. You have to go by the Latin name just to be safe, because otherwise it's too easy to think you have one thing when you actually have another. The garden centers often get things mixed up, so make sure you've got the right plant. Then make some tea and let us know how you like it!
I can remember making Yaupon Tea at camp Karankawa boy socut camp. I don't think we tried it but we did boil some leaves in water and made a tea over the fire.
Love your story interesting and your tea looks yummy would love to try. Hopefully I can get my hands on some as I do live in Canada Ontario but better go do some googling lol.
Christine Keleher Amazon!
Number one for me 👍👏👏👍
Best sister of texas!
...pure American goodness?...nevertheless nice of the sisters to allude to the fact that it is pure Native American goodness...Kudos to the millennia of black drink master shaman...it is only because of their experimental genius that this plant knowledge has disclosed herself to us ...also great to see lady entrepreneurs who are also sisters and of the same mind set
If you have these nearby, I advise just picking them yourself rather than buying- it's easy and fun to make, and it's free!
That's America.
"That's a good black tea" That comment is grossly inaccurate for a self proclaimed tea connoisor. In order to be black it had to be fully oxidized. Green tea is non oxidized, which is what happens when you just dry leaves out. Not even considering this is NOT the camelia senesis plant.
So no its not a good black tea. 🙄
I have comments permanently disabled but I allowed an exception. I'm being nice here too.
people are bruising and using that same technique on Yaupon, enjoy being pedantic though
