- Yaupon Brothers American Tea Co. - Native American Plant with Caffeine - Tea Making - In this video we visit Yaupon Brothers Tea to see the process of turning our native Yaupon Holly into tea. Ilex vomitoria has a terrible Latin name which has probably been part of the reason that it has never been our go to source of caffeine. It is much more environmentally friendly. Thank you Jim and Yaupon Brothers American Tea Co for bringing us this information!
I have become addicted to your videos. I love the education about plants. I listen to your garden Q&A as I am doing my least fav gardening task-mulching. I love how you visit other gardens and take us with you. However, this video, you really stepped out!! Thank you, Thank you!
If I could give this video two (or more) thumbs up, I most certainly would. Very few things make my heart sing with joy as much as stories like this one, an authentic American Dream come true success story. (The fact that it’s “plant-based” - pun intended - makes it even better). Thank you for introducing us to Kyle and Yaupon Brothers American Tea Co! I would like to echo what other viewers have posted: please do more videos like this. 💚
Yaupon holly tea, wow! I have an annoying yaupon holly in my yard that I cannot get rid of. Who knew tea could be made from it? In college, my professor called it "barf bush." Thanks for sharing this info; I am going to check out Yaupon Brothers. The things one can learn watching HortTube!
Can't wait to see them on the international store shelves. Greetings from Hungary.
Please do more videos like these. It was great!
Thank you Jim. ❄️💚🙃
I had no idea that you could make tea with Yaupon! I’ll definitely be buying this tea, thanks!! What a fascinating tour!!
I’m not a tea drinker but this was a very interesting video. Love how the packaging can be composted.
Just ordered some chai tea to try! We are growing several yaupon hollies in the yard, including a yellow berried variety. They are a great native tree and their berries are much loved by the birds. Thanks, Jim & Steph!
Most enjoyable. I will definitely be visiting their website and ordering some tea.
Thank you Jim and Yaupon Brothers Tea Co.!
It's great to know about this very unique use of Yaupon. Great video.
I just bought two nana yaupon from a nursery ran by a local monastery. They did not know it was drinkable but now they do.
Did a whole bunch of learning with this video. Super job!
❤️ I can’t wait to try this tea! This video was so informative and interesting.
Hey!! You're down in my neck of the woods! And I've not heard of this tea company, but want to try it!! Funny how something so close to home can go unnoticed!! Thank you for bring this company to our attention!!
Your de-sticker is essentially a clipper fanning mill ! Which is a knock off of the winnowing basket used for the last 10000 years to de-stick grain. Love this video! Will be traveling to Atlanta to visit family who are all big tea drinkers and are anxious to try this new tea! Thanks!
This was a great break from the traditional format and highly enjoyable. Hope for more similar videos in the future.
I ordered some green and fire roasted. Can't wait to try them both. Thank you for this video!
Hey friends! I like tea so much! I can’t wait to try this tea! This video is informative and interesting.
I love tea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent video. Thank you!😊❤
Very interesting! There are some roads in Brunswick County NC named "Yaupon," so I would expect there are yaupon hollies growing down there. My mother owns a beach home in the county's city of Shallotte (Inlet).
Great! I’m so glad you’re doing this. I want to learn more about the Yaupon’s northern cousin, inkberry Ilex glabra. It’s supposed to have similar qualities. I have 5 newly planted large plants, 4 females (2 Densa cultivars and 2 species) and 1 male. They’re lovely evergreens amidst a sea of Vermont snow.
Never heard of this type of tea before. Very interesting! I’m going to order some to try it out. There are some other tea drinkers in the family that I’m sure haven’t heard of it either. I’ll have to send some to them too. Very cool! Thanks for the video!!
So very interesting! I think I will give it a try.
Oooo! This is sooo interesting!!!
Very interesting! As a Florida native I grew up with Yaupon holly in the woods but had no idea of its tea making properties.
I loved this video. Thank you Jim and Stephany and Yaupon Brothers American Tea Company - I'm looking forward to my Lavender Coconut tea.
Actually, yaupon holly was in fact used by native Americans to make a thick stew-like concoction know as the “black drink” that could in fact make you vomit. The purpose of it was to induce an out-of-body experience or visions. Evidently it was potent stuff! Whether there was anything else in it I don’t know. It didn’t resemble what we would think of as tea that’s for sure. As stated in the video, it does make a nice tea similar to green tea. I've tried it made with leaves off of the yaupons growing in my backyard. Just don’t make a concentrated stew with it.
After watching this video, I bought my first fire roasted tea. Not your normal tea but very good.
Awesome! I just made an order for us as well as to share with my only local friend who also drinks tea. Yaupon hollies are one of my favorite shrubs.
Well got me.a plant.and.some to.try..we will see
I’m gonna give it a try. Looking forward to it. Don’t remember if it was stated in the video or not, but don’t eat the berries. They are bad news for humans. I see birds eating them though.
Come to Texas. Lots of yopons here
I've actually been meaning to try yaupon tea for a while. The plants are incredibly easy to grow. I have a camellia sinensis (true tea) plant, but don't ever expect to harvest off it and consider it ornamental.
I LOVE Yaupon tea but haven't tried Yauponbrothers' tea (yet!).
Like Ilex paraguariensis
Yerba Mate
Hi Jim. I have a question ( it's not related to this video) I have an area that has full sun that I want some fast growing evergreens. But I also have I water line running right through were I want them planted would you have any suggestions to what I could plant?
Are all Yaupons drinkable?
Can you drink this like a “proper” British tea - with milk and sugar?
That is illegal.
Can you banjong orchids in Miami
Tee time.
