The Yaupon we have here in Covington La. have much smaller leaves with jagged edges and of course the female plant has toxic red berries. I didn’t know there were different varieties of Yaupon Holly. I’m exploring the idea of making Matcha with em.
Same with the Yaupon here in MS. I thought I had my plants identified right and now this is making me wonder. Our Yaupon here also grows into small trees some that are pretty tall. "Trunks" around 3-5 inches in diameter on some of the big ones.

Hi Maria, congrats on your yaupon shrub! I got that basket from Mount Pleasant Antique Mall, I bought it to put on my wall but it gets used for drying herbs too much so it stays in the apothecary.

what are the soft, green spherical pod-like things that grow on yaupon? Are they just the baby leaves?
We are coming to the SC coast near Charleston and would like to wild harvest some. Is there a good spot you would recommend?
Yes, you could forage yaupon easily along ANY beach trail along Folly Beach or Sullivans Island (they have a lot at 16 1/2 station).
Does it taste like tea? What’s the flavor like?
