- Lobster rolls are one of my most favorite foods. So while on vacation in New England I just had to make some. Tender pieces of lobster, diced celery and chives bound with a little mayonnaise and a squeeze of lemon juice and placed into a buttery New England style bread roll... absolutely delicious !

I never met a lobster I didn’t love!
Thank you as a new Maine resident!! I’m been trying to find lobster videos all weeks only to find out that my favorite chef on UA-cam showed the best way to make them!
Wish I could be there with you eating those Lobster rolls. I only live a couple hundred miles from the New England coast and the price of lobster is over the top. I just can't afford it and haven't for a couple years now. Lobster was like a family tradition. My Dad was born in Maine. Oh the memories that lobster brings back. Family lobster boils with sweet corn and clams. Lobster rolls were the next day leftovers.
Your tip about cutting the lemon lengthwise to avoid seeds just changed my life. LOL
I love how Darren always educates us on the history of the dishes🥰
Yum, but I do Connecticut style. Warm with butter on the butter toasted NE rolls
Lobster rolls are perfect summer dish 😊
OMG! Looks absolutely so fresh and delicious I love lobster rolls ❤
It looks like a lobster salad on a roll 😂 not lobster on a roll. Hence “lobster roll”
This is a decadent indulgence I can occasionally enjoy. I do not live in New England so I can't just pop round the corner for a lobster roll whenever I want. I DO live in Hawaii where they have an aquaculture farm that raises live Maine lobsters and sells them to the restaurants and public. Getting the bread right is the hard part but sometimes just a fluffy white bun and some butter lettuce works fine. We usually do this on New Years Day on the beach.
I’m originally from New England and I order the rolls off of Amazon since they aren’t available in the Midwest.
@@debdubois3636 Great idea! Thanks.
Missing Winston! Seriously a fabulous video presentation.
Loving the history, too.
My mouth is watering. I spent every summer in Rhode Island , well over 50 summers at my parents summer house and fresh lobster was a must along with clam chowder and clam cakes…. I absolutely love lobster!
Massachusetts girl here. The easiest way to take the meat out of the tail is to take the fins off the end and with your finger push the meat through that end and it will come out from the larger side. No cracking of the shell, it's much easier. Growing up I was taught to suck on the legs to get the little meat out of them and the juice which we still do to this day. The rolls are hot dog rolls here in New England. I've been told they are very hard to find elsewhere in the US. Best rolls ever. What I do instead of using butter to toast them is to spread mayo on each side of the roll and then toast on the grill. Just heaven. I use mayo on a grilled cheese sandwich too instead of butter. Also just an FYI, lobster fishermen call the lobsters, Bugs. Happy eating!!
Fellow New Englander here. I'm shocked the rest of the country hasn't wised up to our superior hot dog roll.
@@dcowan4705 So much better than that big pouffy thing. LOL The bun-to-meat ratio is perfect.
@@dcowan4705The top-split roll? That's been around for almost a hundred years. Even Pepperidge Farm has their own version!
Hope you are well Darren having a good summer 😊
I lived in MA by the cape and have had many lobster rolls. I made them at home all the time. I also made them almost identical to what you just made. The only difference is I add a little onion in mine. Many supermarkets have lobsters, and some will cook them for you while you shop. That's how I bought mine. I would always buy more than one. More like 3 - 4. You can't eat just one. 😂
I'll eat Lobster rolls either way.🦞 But that lobster meat soaking in butter is divine! If someone puts a lobster salad roll in front of me I'm not going to turn it down! 🤤 😁

YOUR THE GREATEST CHEF AND A MIRACLE Darren ❤
I get my lobster fix over at Lefty’s Lobster & Chowder House over on Belt Line Road in Addison (North Dallas)!
What a great background for preparing the lobster rolls! This is the way I like to eat them, too. Several years ago while staying in Florida, my friend and I dined on seafood almost every meal for a week. I'd like to travel to New England to do the same. Nothing like fresh fish/seafood. Thanks for sharing, Darren. Love the videos!
lobster and shrimp are my two favorite things to eat. i've found that the best way to replicate that hibachi flavor from the restaurant is to cook shrimp in the same pan you're going to fry your rice in.
Great video. I'm from Nova Scotia. I have friends and family that fish them. A tip for the walking legs, use a rolling pin or wine bottle to squeeze out the meat.
Love the different varieties of our native sandwich in Maine! No celery please! Haaa! Looks great tho, great vid. More buttah the bettah Darren! 🍻 cheers
I've never used lemon juice in my lobster rolls, but spot on with the toasted rolls! Delicious looking, and I wish I had one or both of those right now!
by the way, when these were considered cockroaches of the sea, the prisoners at the state prison in Maine were served this for dinner all the time. Who knew prison could be so good!
Always happy to see your still making videos !
I make this all of the time! I grew up in NY, and when we went to Maine when I was a child, I had my first one. Wonderful!! Moved to Cape Cod when I got older and learned the recipe. I had moved to IA and had my son fresh lobster, and lobster rolls were his favorite. Helps when you have friends who go lobstering and send me some overnight delivery. Yummy!! Thank you for actually doing a good recipe on them. 🙏💖🪶💯💯💯👏👏👏
Here in CT we do the buttered lobster rolls. Never had the ME style, but it certainly looks delicious. I've really got to give it a go sometime soon! ❤
I remember my first trip to Maine, I was shocked to see the lobsters were about the same price as at my grocery store in Texas. They're not super cheap anywhere.
Not anymore. My mom studied in Boston so she took trips to Maine like a couple of times, and back in the 80s, lobster by the coast was cheap as heck that a broke group of students from abroad were able to have their fill.
👍Thumbs up on this video Chef Darren. 👍YUMMY !!
Thanks Darren, the New England Lobster rolls look delicious! 😋
I can almost taste it.
I put a tsp of Franks Red Hot and a Tsp of Worcestershire sauce along with the ingredients you use Darren and you cannot taste either and it is not spicy but for some reason it takes it all to an enhanced level. I got this from Katherine Lee who is a television food critic. She was on Paula Deans tv show and she made lobster rolls using these two little added ingredients. Maybe you could try it sometime.🙂
now Darren I need you to do your take on a lobster BLT. One of the best things ever!!!! Take it from a man from Maine!
I was rudely awakened to the NE lobster roll when I purchased one in the Seaport area of Boston, back in the summer of 2018. I received 8 ounces of lobster with mayo on a toasted (what I call a) hotdog bun with a small, very small, bowl of steamed zucchini. The grand total for my order (only), after the tip, I dropped a whopping $45.00!!! Never craved it again!😉! That was ONEEEE expensive “cockroach!!!”
Darren I’ve been a fan of the traditional lobster roll with the warm drawn butter my whole life, but watching this video had made me want to break from tradition and run out to try a lobster salad roll! (I don’t trust myself to make it as good as how you just whipped up haha.) great video as always, thanks for the inspiration, and hope you’re enjoying your seaside summer vacation here in Massachusetts!
Brilliant!🎉🎉🎉Simple and delicious! Lobster is my flavour❤❤❤
Chef Darren, I love that your grill looks "dirty", just shows that the equipment has been properly used 😇
Yup that's how I remember Lobster rolls! Delish!! My first experience with Lobster was when a student teacher from Maine brought in lobsters and cooked them in our school cafeteria. What an experience for a farm girl from the upstate New York who had never seen a lobster.
It was a memory I will never forget, and it was DELISH!
Nice job chef. thank you for the alternatives instead of cooking a lobster
I remember as a little kid growing up in New England on Long Island sound; we had a huge storm that came on the heels of a hurricane. The roads and beaches were flooded lobsters were literally walking around in the shallows and people were just grabbing them and throwing them in buckets.
I love lobster! It looks so delicious. Thank you
Your cooking looks delicious as always, also you rock the dad fit😂
that dish looks fantastic
Love this format mate. Keep it up. From Australia 🇦🇺
😋😋They look absolutely yummy😋😋 Love your channel!
Chef, be sure to try the Puerto Nuevo (Mexico) lobster style, I’m sure you’ll also love it
Amazing recipe as always!!
Beautiful! Thank you❤🎉
Beautiful Chef Darren!!
Looks amazing!
This looks great!!!
Will definitely try it this weekend 😊
My mother would love this.
That is some delicious looking cockroach.
Never had a lobster roll, looks delicious 😋
Looks absolutely delicious!
Keep an eye out for specials on 'live and kickin' lobstahs in New England. Market Basket is famous for running great summer specials AND for putting out fresh double lobstah rolls in their prepared food section. You can get two smashed full of lobstah meat for $8.99 and they are DELICIOUS! A quick and easy summer supper with good old Cape Cod potato chips. YUMMMM!!
Quick and easy hack for the little legs: lay them on a cutting board then run a rolling pin up the leg to press the meat out.
Omg - Now I Have to get one .❤❤❤❤
Looks good.
Next time I go to Whitby there’s a crab with my name on it and a packet of Walkers, do those names bring back memories buddy.
Looks delicious
Hi darren 😸🧡 i love lobster! Lobster in sydney restaurants costs on average $100 whole or more! They are not as large as they used to be 🇦🇺
Fantastic.
👍 Delicious 💕 And 💕 tasty 👍 yummy 💕 recipe 👍💕💕
Thank you Darren!
Beautiful & delicious looking Chef Darren!
I live on the west coast. Lobster is available here too - so I might just walk down to the docks and buy one or two off the fishing boats and try your recipe....it looks divine! Thank you. (the last time I had a lobster roll was in New Brunswick about 40 years ago)
Oh, yum!
You can't go wrong with either type of lobster roll. However, it's vital there's not too much dressing on the salad roll.
Delicious 😋
That look delicious. I live in Ventnor off the South Coast of England on the Isle Of Wight & can get beautiful fresh lobster straight off the fishing boat, so will definatly give this a go.
I love lobster so much, I would love to eat it everyday
You can use a rolling pin or a wine bottle to extract the meat from those skinny legs far easier than trying to pluck it out with tools. Start from the "foot" and roll toward the knuckle and the meat (if properly cooked) should squeeze right out.
As we in Massachusetts pronounce it: "Lobstah"
Yum!!! 😀
I like to see and follow ur content about foods and UK...thank u..sir...we like it...hope and wish oneday can visit ur country....🙏😊👍👍🤗
Divine!!!!!
Looks so delicious! I'm a lobster roll purist and prefer the Connecticut style (warm with melted butter on a toasted split top hot dog bun) but would not say no to one of these.
Hi sir...I'm Rahmita from Indonesia Asia Pasifik ASEAN...🙏😊🇮🇩
Hope you are on the New England coast where it's must be a least a little cooler. Your dish looks delicious as always. I always thought lobster could only be tasty if it is piping hot and it unfortunately gets cold quickly. This look like a good alternative.
Thanks❤
Amaaazing going to cook 👨🏻🍳 them
I cant wait for an aussie (Australian summer) to make this
Sitting here in Maine, so where are you 😁🦞🦞🦞🦞
Looks like Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Oh yummy! I ate a lobster roll while in Boston and it was so good! I wish lobster wasn't so expensive though.
🥰🦞🦀🦐🦑🥖🥐🍞🍋🧂🥰 thank you
Anyone else think of Arthur’s dad saying “LOB-STER!”?
Yummyyyy !! 😋😋😋😋
Nunca comi lobster, no Brasil é caro, mas quero muito experimentar um dia.
Now you've got me craving Lobster! 😅 Great video! Where did you record it?
I had to play back. It sounded like you said the "FAA" didn't recommend eating the bit you were discussing. Now, eating lobster puts me in a euphoric state, but the "FAA"?? However, you did say "FDA". Whew. Try a New Orleans crab boil as well as the New England Clam Bake.
being from Utah, USA I have never seen those kinds of bread rolls
Omg I ALWAYS eat the tomali and if I'm lucky there's roe there as well
Oh My!!!!!
Cockroaches!!? Never! Over here we call them Sea Bugs ❤
Darren, you've become a "Merican." (An American, really.)
These Lob rolls look amazing! Wish I could afford a
lobster or two.
You need to try a Beaufort stew. I add baby carrots, along
with the corn, potatoes and sausage. (Put the carrots in
first, cook for 15 minutes, before adding the spuds and corn.)
Also, throw a large onion, cut in quarters, and a couple oranges,
cut like the onion. Shrimp, with a minute or so to go. Zatarain's
crab boil seasoning.
steve
This is also the lobster roll we got at Cape Cod MA
😋
I'm on a budget. Thus I've done this with a mixture of artificial crab (100% fish with natural crab juices) , smaller shrimp, and chopped cooked bay scallops. Just as delicious for a fraction the price of lobster.
There is a new small chain restaurant that recently opened up
on our area. Angie's lobster. They serve a hot, cold, or fried
lobster sandwich meal, for $10. The hot and cold sandwiches,
are just like you just did, the fried ones are 3 battered and fried
half tails. VERY minimalist store. Only takeaway, absolutely
NO seating. In the lobby, you can only pay with your phone.
No personal interaction at all. Drive through, phone, debit card,
or even cash. 3 or 4 times a week, for me.
Oh, greater Phoenix Az area.
