- This is new self balancing mobile robot. It is called Diablo, it features 6 direct drive actuators. This 6DoF makes this robot extremely interesting (it allows to pitch, roll and change the height of robot). You can write your own program for it, thanks to C++ and Python sdk. I will also use this robot in my future videos. This is NOT just another robot dog :)

#Robotics - Наука та технологія
In order to finance my UA-cam channel and my projects, I am starting the consultation in robotics. So if you would like to ask me questions about my builds (or about your projects) you can do this through my website ( www.skyentific.com/book-online ). This service is not cheap, because I would like to limit it (with lower prices I would have to do this all day long, and I would not have time for projects/UA-cam). And of course, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to help you during this consultation, but I will do my best.
Good demo ! Never seen you so happy ! ❤️
Hello. This has to be the best self-balancing robot I've ever seen. It balances it very well. No unnecessary forwards/backwards. Congratulations
I think the knee cap is a sort of "gearing" in that it gives mechanical advantage.
"The primary functional role of the patella is knee extension. The patella increases the leverage that the quadriceps tendon can exert on the femur by increasing the angle at which it acts."
Wow! This is cool! Great to know!
correct
I think most joints in the human body have some degree off mechanical advantage, mostly through Levers with an off set fulcrum, but i could be very wrong
Great review!
The hardware is really impressive, i really like the leg construction. The lack of open source software is a deal breaker.
Yes, no Open source = no go
Excellent videos man 👍
Looks great!!!
So graceful, like a ballerina! Someone needs to write a ballet routine for that bot! I can't believe you didn't put this bot through its paces. You need to make it run at full speed, and then jump off a ramp! Then spin on landing, like an Olympic skater.
excellent pizza delivery robot 👍
Great video, keep it up 🕊️🙌😇
Impressive little robot. I like how silent it is.
Looks like it needs knobby tires and slightly bigger wheels.
I wonder how you can tune the pids when adding some load to the top?
Too Cool!
"I would love to steal it" lol
Can it jump while driving or only while stationary?

Btw, Naomi also did a review on this robot: ua-cam.com/video/cleaXYtY2fM/v-deo.html
Great review! Thx!
Woahh, I noticed the swiss train, the after some digging found out you also live In lausanne ! tell us if you do a live demo someday, I also live here :D
what a cute robot, i wonder if you can put ROS on the pi to make it autonomous
What a practical design. I can see many applications, for the military, construction and civilian jobs alike.
exactly!!!
this robot is on the internet how to do it just a gyroscope an arduino and some servos ua-cam.com/video/GyIJ-PEzUcE/v-deo.html And the most incredible thing is a Latin robot, that's why almost all the tutorials to make it are in Spanish and it's free code.

@@xephyr417 Easy. The two parallel wheel design makes it very useful when traversing rough terrain. With some coding upgrades and minor innovations in the design (to make it lighter and jump higher) it would be unstoppable.
@@xephyr417 In terms of usefulness in the military substitute the bottle for an unexploded mortar shell, or ied. In construction the fact that it can go low and become compact means it can fit in pipes and do hazardous building inspections. In civilian world it could assist handicapped user in fetching various things/items.
Hello, dear friend, thank you for the great content you do.
How does the arm mechanism work?
It is very important for its balance
Thank you for explaining
awesome hardware, i wonder what kind of application this can excel at
it is amazing what animals and humans can do with their bodies no need of servomotors
The robot is neat, but I'm more interested in the motor drives. I hope they will sell it!
Try measuring the current consumption on the actuators and also how much payload it can carry.
There's a video on youtube (Diablo Robot Day 2-3 Icra2022) of a girl around 10/11 yrs old riding it like a hoverboard. ua-cam.com/video/yqDhF59vSrY/v-deo.html
Muscles and drives are hard to approximate, because a muscle is closer to a self tensioning spring system they're kinda odd
But you're not wrong in that it effectively is a direct drive system as it's anchored to what it's moving
Mais mais mais .. vous êtes Suisse !?? ahahha J'ai vu le train passer derrière vous.
Ca fais tellement longtemps que je vous suis et je n'aurais jamais imaginé 🙂
I'd be curious about how it does on slightly rougher terrain.
"And sit..!"
*THUNK*
Интересное видео. Спасибо!
looks more like a robot frog :)
I didn't know you lived in Switzerland :D
I want to see it move along and jump up onto curbside in one smooth move ..... but i will have to wait a bit i think
I really hope James Bruton is watching it!
Wouldn't it be capable of moving the legs and wheels forward to avoid a fall by briefly raising the wheel just a little faster than the downward acceleration of gravity to reduce friction with the ground during the quick readjustment required to reach the alignment with the direction of the fall?
Seems like omni wheels might be a better selection for the base so it can turn properly when it's crouched. The abrupt drop when crouching is probably more of a programming issue I'd expect them to get sorted in the production models.
Also, you mentioned the USB being useful for a camera. Doesn't the RPI 4 have a dedicated camera connector like older ones? And is it still accessable with that controller board in place?
One thing that I don't really like that much is the large loops of wires going to the legs. It seems like they could be shorter without affecting the range of motion of the machine and be less of a snag hazard.
While I'm not sure if it would still be able to balance, and arm mounted on the top with a camera attached would be a cool upgrade. And maybe 3D printing some enclosures for the RPI and power distribution boards to make it somewhat rain resistant for outdoor use.
has touched a problem that everyone omits the length of the cables that transmit electricity even 40% of the energy can be spent heating cables while the electrons reach the motor
Pi 4 has a camera connector and you can route the needed cable without adding extra height so it should still be accessible.
Could it have been calibrated with a slightly different diameter wheel, and that's why it slams when sitting?
Is it analogue style - like the woweee robot toys ?
But can it fetch a beer?
I wonder if it can go up and down a flight of stairs?
I wish you showed the insides... please do a tear down otherwise we're spending 20 minutes to see this jump 10cm in the air.. thanks
So has anyone made a full size one that you can ride in yet?
@Skyentific >>> 👍👍
where did you get the IPA or SDK
How much weight can it hold? Will putting more computer power/Lidar/bigger battery just mean it'll require more current to hold that weight constantly?
Just looked at the website. Fully lowered it can carry 100kg, but it doesn't state the carrying capacity when standing. There doesn't seem to be a time limit when in crouched/creep mode, but standing time is limited to 90 minutes. So it makes sense that with more mass, the faster power is consumed when standing.
ua-cam.com/video/yqDhF59vSrY/v-deo.html
ROOOOOOCK, SKATE! ...ROOOOOOOLL, BOUNCE !
Can you make an upgrade?, Like camera, sounds or put an arm
That is a great ideal
put two rear wheels so we avoid the unnecessary expense of the battery balancing the servos
And no-one will be interested in this video :)))

awesome! too bad its not rated for outside, with it being able to jump and conform to terrain with the legs
@Zer0 Bin0pse : For such a professional and nicely constructed machine, that's surprising. I would bet there is a lot more to come in future, and waterproofing has to be sooner rather than later... otherwise they are seriously limiting its versatility.
@Skyentific I checked out your Kickstarter is there any reason id not ended?
Which Kickstarter?
@@Skyentific I may be wrong though or it's a different channel. I think i clicked one of your old vids and found a Kickstarter that never went through
Hi , Amazing I am doing a TWIP robot and direct drive gives me the solution for more torque and quick response . I would like to contact you! or how can I get be included in your team ? Greetings from Peru Arequipa
It's so cute with those tiny arms *u*
can you please clarify what pcb was assembled on the top of Raspberry pi?
I think this is a custom PCB developed by Direct Drive tech. This PCB sends CAN-bus control commands to the 6 motors.
@@Skyentific здравствуйте.
6 моторов это:
2 мотор-колёса и 4 мотора в корпусе (по два на каждую ногу) я правильно понял?
@@user-bn4ft1wq8h верно
How about a bigger one that you could ride like a motorcycle?
Why so many cables on the side?
Three cables on each side. One cable per motor. I agree that this can (and should) be improved.
Could have filled the bottle with water.
Can it jump while moving? Fast speed and jump?
ua-cam.com/video/yqDhF59vSrY/v-deo.html
So... it's Segway, without the handle bar.
Интересный робот, но сложно представить ему применение
There are many applications, for example, for security: it can patrol territory with the cameras (visible, infrared, depth) and thanks to pitch and roll, it can point these cameras in different places (up, down).
@@Skyentific I want to see him climb a simple ladder if he can't it won't work
step up is better than jump, you have the 4 wheels, which should be able to step up steps
if they are switched to powered wheels
copyrighted code is the worst
dont serve foreigners, or anyone, for that matter
As cool as this thing is, I’m not so sure if it even qualifies as a robot. Robots by design are supposed to possess at least some degree of AI or freedom of autonomy. But if it’s something that’s completely under the control of its operator, then it would be no different than say, a remote controlled car or drone - which themselves aren’t classified as robots. Sorry to get into semantics. But that’s just how I see this. Still really really cool though. 👍
Let’s call it a potential robot. :) It has everything to become robot, just need a brain/AI.
maaan, it's so agile..
It doesn't really jump... it moves up and lifts the wheels fast enough to be airborne for a sec... but it doesn't gain any height.. watch it in slow motion.
in Spanish the name of the robot is a bit scary xd
Had one for testing in addition to several of their actuators. Chinese crap. sent it all back. And if you have any issues good luck with support or customer service. find a different supplier.
Why would you animate your gripper like that? An open gripper too boring for you, Need to have them waving back and forth, only to wait until it's open to use it..
First, it is cool like this. Second, I wasn't able to integrate this servo in C++ sdk. And Python sdk wasn't ready when I filmed it. So the gripper is just time controlled. In order for me to know when it is going to close, it dance just before.
Time 6:07
Time 6:59
Time 8:34
Time 10:14🤪
It's so cool and useless!!!
Looks extremely useless, at least you can get servos from it.
Honestly if it had a rear or forward wheel, with all of this things active suspension capabilities it would be extremely good outdoors. It could hop if it gets stuck, and dynamically change its center of mass by leaning and lowering
agree, looks like a product from a high school robotics club + a parent who wrote the Kalman filters...
@@felixbors7546 you must be in the richest country in the world if you think children having access to lasers cutters, big motors with good drivers is normal. I went to school in USA and the parts needed for this + the machine to make the panels would have blown out the entire schools club budget for 2000 kids
@@MrFaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Looks like four mini-cheetah actuators and a recycled hoverboard. The rest could be hacked together using basic workshop tools and a 3D printer. Probably less than $2000 total.
@@dekutree64 it seems easy to replicate. Just need a good look at it.
Way too expensive! Full price at around $4K... and you only get a RPi4, what a joke.
