I'm sure that the sellers at the flower market are irritated by the tourists, because they only take pictures and probably rarely buy flowers. I can't blame them for that kind of behavior. Let's be honest, what are tourists supposed to do with fresh flowers, they can't take them home 🤷🏻‍♀️

I consider Amsterdam as home, although I live in Utrecht. But both Utrecht and Amsterdam are part of the Randstad area. And I am there a lot also. The Randstad is the biggest megalopolis of Europe, with like 8 million people and the economical heart of The Netherlands .... and distances between Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den Haag (The Hague) are short (all these cities are together 'the Randstad') ... I do agree that this specific flower market in Amsterdam isn't special.... but as this guy from Israel is saying: not every country sells flowers in street markets..... Go to the big street market in Rotterdam for example.... in front of the Market Hall (Markthal) you have one of the biggest if not the biggest street market of The Netherlands with almost 250 market stalls ...also with flowers and plants and seeds etc, every Saturday from 08:00h (08am) and inside the relatively new Market Hall you find like commercial eateries and stalls .... or in Utrecht on a Saturday at the Oudegracht (the old Canal) you also find market people selling flowers, or at the Janskerkhof, also in the city center of Utrecht you find a real flower and plant market, where regular Dutch people go to, every Saturday from 08:00h - 17:00h (8am to 5pm) .... Google 'Flower Market Janskerkhof'.... by the way: the flower and plant market at the Janskerkhof in the city center of Utrecht is next to a statue of Anne Frank, and always at the end of the day, when the market is closing, the market people lay some left over flowers (just a few flowers) at the statue of Anne Frank... (Utrecht is only 25 min by train from Amsterdam) But all the cities in the Randstad are all in short distance of each other, all easily accessible by train.... so when going to Amsterdam also see the rest of the Randstad ... this specific flower market in Amsterdam I always find a bit underwhelming and without a real atmosphere,...in Amsterdam you will find many stalls all around the city selling nice flowers .... or other markets with flower stalls.... this flower market in the video is one big tourist shop ... And yes Amsterdam does often look and feel much better than in photographs.... make sure to walk a lot.... go off the known routes.... go into side streets... go a bit further out.... the area around the red light district and the Dam Square are okay but Amsterdam as a whole is more interesting and beautiful.... just walk a lot and far.... Amsterdam isn't that big... but again... take the train and go explore the other cities in The Randstad....

Dutchies are so critical on our own beautiful city. Amsterdam lives up to the hype. London, Brussels, Copenhagen and Berlin however not so much. DW is a German outlet and tried to look down upon the Netherlands and paint a negative picture. However, dear Dutchies, let’s be proud on Amsterdam, because it IS one of the most beautiful cities in the world and a lot of Amsterdam’s GDP comes from tourists, so let’s not bite the hand that feeds us.

Don't shorten it to "Dam". It is okay if you are talking about "the damsquare" or "the palace on the dam". But when talking about the entire city, you can shorten it to A'dam/Adam. The second biggest city, Rotterdam, in the Netherlands ends with "Dam" too, as do many villages and towns (e.g. Volendam). The Netherlands is not a country where 10% or more of the population lives in the capital, and it gets annoying how sometimes foreigners and people from Amsterdam themselves treat it as if it is.
Canals can be found in most historic Dutch cities, even the ones with 100.000 people in it or less.
Rotterdam has the biggest harbor in Europe.
The Hague is the power/political heart of the Netherlands, also hosting the international justice court (Peace Palace) and most embassies.

Born and raised Amsterdammer here, the flower market is an overrated tourist attraction. The canals are like mentioned the biggest attraction and best experienced by boat. The city is overcrowded by tourists and due to a lack of people keeping it neat and tidy its disgusting by all the litter at some points. We can thank our incompetent politicians for that. The museums are top notch but crowded. Like others have mentioned, please come to the Netherlands but perhaps visit other nice cities in it so we can spread the load a bit. They are just as beautiful and exciting.

Amsterdam is probably a lovely city but when i was there like 10 years ago in summer, it was way too crowded. Same goes for Prague. The places might be beautiful but for everyones sake they should put a cap on tourist numbers. It will destroy the spirit of the place - natives get annoyed, prices go up because of airbnbs everywhere in the city center, cheap shops in the center instead of original stuff, thieves everywhere.... And the natives move away, leaving only scammers and pseudo rich people. I hated Prague for that reason.

No. Amsterdam is overrated. Copenhagen is probably much nicer. At least I thought Amsterdam was kind if overrated.

Please stop moving to amsterdam, the original amsterdammers are being forced to leave because of gentrification. We keep losing culture and one day amsterdam wont be as nice anymore as there will only be living rich, entitled expats. cities like rotterdam, antwerp, brussels are nice too and close to amsterdam

Amsterdam:) its an village compared to Tokio-Delhi-Hongkong-Toronto-New-york.... very small but oh so successful..... I love Amsterdam as an city to live in. As a tourist its nothing compared to the real mega city's in the world.
