What she said in this video really sounds bad, it's pretty insensitive for others to joke about it, because it really affects her normal life. Glad that she's able to appreciate the small things in life and find a balance between her condition and her own life.

I understand totally because I have obstructive sleep apnea. No matter how much sleep I get,I'm always tired. It affects your daily life! I work but I can't do much because of this condition! I also have PCOS, HIgh blood pressure, and depression too! You can have multiple sleep disorders at the same time! My sisters sometimes say that I need to be tested for narcolepsy too. You only can do so much everyday. You have to pace yourself and set goals to meet before your energy disappears!😓😭

I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy (with cataplexy) when I was 16... it was difficult... I was a student and nobody around me has ever heard of this sleeping disorder. Imagine you are walking on the street and the next moment, some strangers have to tap you awake; you’d wake up to see strangers staring at you, whispering “what is wrong with this girl, is she drunk or on drugs?”
I am 42 now... it wasn’t easy but I managed to scrape through. And it does get better as we age. Trust me.
You may wanna PM me if u need an listening ear. It takes one with Narcolepsy, to understand another. Jiayou!

She's a strong one. Putting perspective abt her condition rrly brings meaning to her life. It's true. Not everyone is ambitious. Nothing wrong with living an ordinary life. I wish you all the best. Find the positive and live your life as you seem fit. Always be grateful bc there's always someone else in worse situation than you.

Thank you so much for bringing awareness to this issue. Hopefully this video enables employers to offer flexible work arrangements.
Also, please don't minimise your own struggles! Cancer and narcolepsy may be different conditions, but that doesn't mean you don't struggle as much as cancer patients do!
Also, it's very hurtful to hear that your parents said "Your siblings came out fine! Why are you like this?" Must be a generational thing...
This is why parents need to openly communicate with their child, diagnose concerns early and educate themselves about possible learning disabilities, like narcolepsy, ADHD or even dyslexia. Remember, not all disabilities are visible.
My last point: I'm so sorry that your ex said such a horrible thing to you. Dragging a relationship because of pity is simply unacceptable. I really hope you are recovering well from your breakup and find someone else who accepts you in your entirety, including your narcolepsy.

When I entered the university I thought career ladder was like a life purpose, you know, the ultimate goal... then I finished uni and spent some time to travel. I found out life is so beautiful out there, people are different and what’s the purpose of living this life if you are not happy??? I can somehow understand her situation, I don’t have narcolepsy but I have severe motion sickness, in a world of people racing in expensive cars I love to cycle 🤣🤣🤣🤣 To live your life as you want and make the most out of the lemon that this life gave you are the most important things in life!

I once went to a GP about my daytime sleepiness issue when I was a teen.. GP just told me to get enough sleep. I never know what's the real cause and I hope awareness is better now, be it a genuine medical condition or not, as long as it has happened , it's a fact not to be dismissed off until proper evaluation is done, regardless how young the patient is.

Takes a strong soul to be able to live with narcolepsy with such conservative parents and be able to look at it from a positive POV. I remember studying about narcolepsy in my intro to psychology class and felt so bad for the people who suffer from it. I imagine how much it would impact one’s quality of life. In some countries, you’re not even allowed to drive because you could fall asleep without any warning. Correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t think there’s a cure to narcolepsy yet. You’re a strong soul, Jeanne, and I wish you the very best life could offer you. I also hope the society in general has more awareness of this condition.

I have hypersomnia and I can relate up to some point with her. I used to sleep all day during my secondary school days and that affected my studies a lot. I even slept in the middle of my N level papers. Despite the teachers waking me up every time they walk past, in another 3 minutes, I'll just fall asleep again. To the point that I can sleep in a sitting position, holding a pen in my hand so during lessons teacher won't realize I'm actually sleeping. It would get so bad that I can even fall asleep while standing in the MRT. Normal people take about 14 minutes to fall asleep while I've spent just 20 seconds falling into sleep. Entering the working society made me realize I need a team of people that would understand my situation and not judge me. I've had close calls in my previous jobs because I couldn't focus while being sleepy. For hypersomnia, we just have to sleep it off. My current job allows me to take short naps thru out the day whenever I need it, sometimes a 5 minute is all I need, and there are also days that I slept my entire lunch hour away despite having a full 7-8 hours sleep the previous night. On long weekends I can sleep up to 14 hours and still feel sleepy for the entire day, needing naps. Whenever I take buses or trains, even if it's just one single stop, I can fall asleep. It affects me up to a certain point but I'm still living okay while having an ordinary life. Though I can't possibly chase my dreams or pursue further studies because I simply cannot focus. I just wish more people would know about hypersomnia/narcolepsy and would look out for each other when you come across one.

After watching this, I made self-reflection and wondered if I have been suffering from the Narcolepsy.
I always feel sleepy and drowsy since I was a Kid, especially in daytime and there was not a single day which I didn't doze off in the class room.
When at work, there is also not a single day when I don't doze off.
I can't make myself awake and sometimes, I just doze off without realizing it.
I am now 42 years old already and I will definitely do research about this and get treatment if required.

Disclaimer : Nothing related to video. Just wanna rant.. Because you mentioned "i see some people without my condition also want to just live a normal life " i feel theres a slight sense of sugarcoating that makes yourself feel better. Which is justified. "Normal" people has more pressure because they cant rely on anything or excuse.
People who don't have such conditions are being more pressured to succeed compared to those who have special conditions. Its as if "normal" people's problems are less significant. I do want to succeed but its the risk you have to take. Sorry not sorry, i guess these people who have these conditions can easily fall back and say "oh.. I have this condition so its ok and justified" ...Let me tell you a scenario where i have colleagues that are married with kids thinks its justified that single colleagues are supposed to work harder and OT more because you don't have a family. Oh, i guess parents that you have to support is not a responsibility. The irony is that person is 5 years my senior and lacks the knowledge in the industry and has to ask me every 10 minutes. For gawd sake, grow up... You suppose to know this stuff. And im not carrying this workload just because you think being a mom makes you think you get less workload. I have my own life too. Of course, the whole department knows and treats her like a dumbo. Lesson is dont judge others and i don't really care if you have kids or not but if you expect others to sort your task and crap. Just because you feel validated to do so just because you're a mom. Best you find your way out. Tbh, from what i see, dont take advantage of your situation. I guess its only sympathy when its convenient to you.
Btw, this comment is not somewhat related to you. I cant judge a man unless i walk in his/her shoes. Just a total rant because of work 🤦‍♀... Some colleagues think they can get cut the slack just because they have kids. Well, good for you. The doors out there for u to leave....
Anyways, stay safe and take care 😅😍😘 Sorry for the absolute mess of the ranttt..
Also, its great that Singaporeans have awareness on this stuff. Meanwhile, Malaysian is busy on the racist bias politics.... Its not islam fault is the malays mindset that is power hungry... And whenever they make a mistake ..they think everything can be di"halalkan" for fck sake, is 2022, where the racial equality ....🤷‍♀🤦‍♀🌝
