    The one inch punch was made famous by Bruce Lee. It's a powerful close ranged punch from 1 inch away. The main difference between the one inch punch and the iron fist punch is the travel distance. A normal punch is 6-12 inches away from the target. Bruce Lee was able to knock down opponents twice his size with his 1 inch punch.

      the 2 inches punch (yep, that's what it is) has a lot to do with knowing how to throw a punch, little to do with strength.
      The power comes from kicking the ground, as you transfer the kinetic energy through. He wasn't using an arm swing, he actually used his whole body to punch. which was the correct way of doing it. this was also why some people who only used their arms to wind up wasn't even able to do it.
      wind up punch is generally more powerful ofc, but if you don't know how to use your body to back up the punch, sometimes you won't even have the power to do it.

      @okdghd if you look at the edges of the boards when he shows them stacked together, you can see the first two are cut so the growth rings run pretty much straight through the board. This is the weakest cut. The third board is what's called quarter sawn, where the growth rings don't go straight through the board, but rather curve along the length. This is much stronger, and more difficult to break

    At 3:16 that was a one inch punch. The girl after going ten inches back isn’t even close. Didn’t even break the first board correctly. At 5:30 that was also a good punch, but nobody else. Damn.

    Those hard level boards are easy to break when held in a certain way and very difficult to break when you turn them 90 degrees, it depends on the "lines" of the board, so cant tell how you were holding them each time.

    • @Nichaelas
      @Nichaelas Рік тому +4

      Yeah wood is easier to break if you don't go against the grain. I remember in middle school woodshop class I had just finished sanding the edges of a block and our teacher told us this, held part of it in the vice, and struck the thing with an open palm splitting it in half and ruining my hard work. He didn't know it was in use and promptly replaced it with one of the finished pieces that were used as an example earlier.

      @andrewg3196 Рік тому

      This is one of those things that's so stupid and wrong that it's hard to even explain why. Like. Wow. Let's say the grain is going up and down and the board splits along the grain, if you had turned it so the grain was going side to side then it would just split along the grain still but now it would be side to side. It wouldn't still need to be split up and down because of some intrinsic property hahaha. This is some real toddler brain thinking.

    • @andrewg3196
      @andrewg3196 Рік тому

      @@Nichaelas yeah but once you cut the board you have set the grain. Turning it after cutting it doesn't magically change that. If there are lines going across the surface of the board, and you turn it.... there will still be lines going across the board.

      @@andrewg3196 Nope. I am a martial artist for 40 years and an instructor for 20 years. I am also trained in the Shaolin Iron Fist and breaking techniques. I know exactly what I'm talking about and I'm talking out of experience, we use such kind of boards in demonstrations all the time. Things are exactly as I told them to be. Feel free to think otherwise, and feel free to break your hand too if you wish, I'm just talking facts. We've challenged people many times from the audience to come and try to break a board like this one and nobody EVER, not even once, could. Then a student girl of ours would brake it, all we did was turning it 90 degrees. Feel free to try it at home. Make a video too, it'll be fun. But a hard thick board, like the one he's using here, not a slim one, those will break if you're powerful enough. You can break the board with a fist ONLY when the lines are from left to right and you can break it with a chop ONLY when they are top to bottom. Go ahead, give it a shot and have fun with your friends. Go buy a thick hard board like the one Hafu Go uses on this video and let your friends try to break it, (they wont manage, guaranteed), then just turn it 90 degrees without they noticing and break it yourself. Remember: left to right for a fist break, top to bottom for a chop break. If you manage to break the board eg with a chop while the lines are left to right, come over and I'll give you a black belt. P.S. : the fist I mentioned concerns a normal straight boxing punch. If it's a Wing Chun strike, with the hand/wrist turned right, eg one like the inch punch, then the board needs to be with lines top to bottom, like the chop board, not left to right. To Hafu Go: feel free to delete my comment if you feel that I'm revealing martial arts secrets. Cheers.

    This is not that hard. But it does require full kinetic chain mobilization from a standstill.
    So, generally it's a trained skill.
    The last board is the only one that counts, the other two are confidence boosters or "kid boards."

    The trick isn't the punch, it's the wood, notice the grain, when we use wood for strength, we use the fibers to hold the pressure, if you put pressure on the grain, it will crack.
