@@dustyoldrowe The game is nearly endless and choc full of secrets that are too complicated so most people use the wiki or a video like how people do COD easter eggs
Honestly, this looks fire. And I love that it seems like the bosses are very thoughtfully designed, so that they have real difficulty, and not just some bs moves and/or insane damage. This is definitely one worth giving a try.
Battle Shapers is great, I really enjoy secret hunting for unlocks and the core that gives you a claw is by far my favourite. This game to me kinda feels like Megaman if it were an fps. I don't think it's a very hard game tho.
You have to try a Roguleike called "Magica". Its a game where you build your wands with your own spell combination - so you can have stuff like a BLACK HOLE shooting lasers at all enemies in the room. Its insanely fun and decently challenging. Been really loving it lately, got already 100 hours playgime in just 1 week
... Man, they picked a really unfortunate name given that there's a popular (albeit old) series called "Magicka", initially made by the same people behind the Helldivers games. All of my searches ended up with Magicka, so even with this comment I couldn't find the game.
Ever play Noita? Imo the absolute best roguelike out there, by a landslide. Building your own wands, progressing down levels to get to the boss....and that isn't even the tip of the iceberg of content and secrets in that game. Try make a video on the secrets and gameplay and you'll be there for 10 hours minimum trying to explain all the points.
Hey Skooch, just wanted to say thx for the recommendation, i'm a huge rougelike fan myself and caved in and bought this a view days after you unloaded this video. I've already sunk 14 hours into it over the past week and just got my 1st run clear on my 7th attempt (3rd attempt against verOS) and practically jumped out of my chair screaming "let's go". My favorite core is the wind core (for the ranged punch kills and knock backs), favorite weapon is the vibro kunai (big reason i won that run, had them firing every element near constant with mods and the no reloading and innate chaining is just too good), and favorite ability is the flame bees (getting the mod where its cd is reduced 20% when an enemy dies and gaining 1 shield anytime it hurts someone, with its own passive of when its target dies it seeks out a new enemy and refreshes its duration meant i could usually have like 4-5 of them constantly dropping shields for me at a time really helped keeping me alive). Anyway thanks again for bringing this game to my attention, i'm gonna start grinding my way up to omega level and actually kill verOS for real.
One of the coolest roguelikes I tried so far as a fellow roguelike addict is Diceomancer, seems like a Slay the Spire knockoff but dang it's so good and adds some very interesting complexity, while the main gimmick of being able to reroll *ANY* number on screen allows insane combos. Only issue for me is it's on the tad easy side but still incredibly enjoyable, also ascension levels fix that complaint Would really like seeing you attempt a 3 run challenge!
Man this game is so good, I already got a solid 15 hours in before the corruption update came out. And skooch if you want a really fun build that feels phenomenal to play. Theres a core that gives you a groundpound, pair that with a grenade that groundpounds with vibro shockwaves and an upgrade core that reduces cooldown for on of them when you use the other and you just chain a ton of groundpounds it just feels incredible
Gotta give this game a try as a fellow rogue like guy. My own rogue like recommendation is Ravenswatch it has a dark fantasy storybook aesthetic and it has been made co-op in mind
I love how half the comments mention Noita because it basically does what's in the title 10 times better. Also Skooch saying this roguelike is incredibly hard makes me wonder how it compares to Spelunky 2. Still haven't beaten the final world in that game.
Sometimes I feel like we need to split rougelikes in halve The 'every run is different because you get small augments in numbers/effects and equipment' Or 'The binding of isaac/noita/magic raft style, where 2 items can make the difference between objectively being screwed and a possible godrun that change functionality entirely'
I had this exact idea like 2 years ago. I regretti not making it. It was going to be a 2d platformer where you could put guns together with parts you find in levels. Each part changes how the gun works with 2 base types. Also melee weapons, but I didn't know what I was gonna do with that. For example however you could slap on an attachment to a laser pistol and it becomes a 1 handed laser shotgun.
Hey Skooch, there is a roguelike I would like to see you play called Galactic Glitch. It's a twin stick shooter similiar to Asteroids with the difference that you can pick up and throw asteroids and smaller objects and throw them at enemies. This includes smaller enemies as well and even parts of bigger enemies that just get ripped out of their ship. It's really fun and many items in the game interact with the throwing mechanic like splitting thrown objects into multiple seeking missiles.
Man I really, really love your style. I kinda hate you for how good you are, people could start thinking these games are easy 🤣 You just did a +1 to my wishlist, I never heard of this game before but this seems incredible. Gotta try it! Congrats as always man! Hugs from Italy
Rouge like/rouge lites almost always includes modifying your weapon, binding of Issac just modifies your tears, Hades modifies whatever weapon you pick, risk of rain... Is weird but still technically modifies your weapon 🤷
appreciate you calling it rogue-LIKE. Shits me to tears when I see and hear rogue-LITE. The whole genre stems from being LIKE the game rogue, from the 80s.
Different genres, Rogue-LITE implies you keep some of your progress when you die, the lite being the operator to say it's a "lite" version of the Roguelike genre.
Wouldve been funny if they did a hades last boss type of thing, the first time i beat hades, i wasnt prepared what came after because i took my hand of the keys HAHAHA
Ok so from what I can see in the early stage of the video, this game is just like when you were little and loved transformers more than anything, and you pretended that the transformers were fighting each other.
Ive never been this early to a video. Hi Skooch, ive been enjoying your videos since when you were doing 'can we talk about this' keep up the good work mate.
Hey I’m looking to start trying to get into roguelikes and I need a suggestion for where to start (preferably on steam). My only experience is vampire survivors and I would like to try some more so can I have some starter suggestions and I definitely do not mind a complicated roguelike, in fact I would probably like that a lot.
I would recommend: Dead Cells as a 2d action platformer, Hades as an isometric action with a little more story emphasis, Gungeon for a top down Bullet Hell, Slay The Spire for a deckbuilder where you kill monsters, Balatro for a deckbuilder where no monsters are involved, Risk of Rain 2 for a 3rd Person Looter Shooter, Then Battle Shapers(this game) or Roboquest for a first person shooter. There are rougelikes in all genres! Some stranger ones are: Peglin-a peggle roguelike, TerraCards- a farming roguelike, Shotgun King-a chess based one.
If you want somewhere to START, I would say either Hades, 30XX, Gunfire Reborn, Balatro or Rogue Legacy 2. They tend to have a lot lower difficulty than the more hardcore roguelikes (like Noita, The Binding of Isaac, Dead Cells and Enter the Gungeon), so they're easier to get into and see why roguelikes are fun without tearing your hair out before you can even get the early upgrades.
Watched a guy names Gellot play this. If you have seen him play you would think hes a god at games. This is one of the vary few games where he doesn't use his rules of taking no damage but instead he uses no HP damage. If this guy is doing that then yes this game is going to be hard

Weapon customization is exactly why noita is my favorite roguelike ever.
I should give Noite a second chance, I played for less then half an hour, didn't like it very much and refunded it lol
Agreed homeslice would go to town
And also take like 10 tries to get the standard ending

Magicraft - Noita meets Binding of Isaac! Highly recommended!

@storma8023 take Noita concept. Put it on Binding of Isaac. Be able to actually *build* not just pick up and be stuck with it. Thats Magicraft
Man if you like this
You should try mothergunship
It has the same gun Building mecanic but It brings It to the Extreme
17:39 yep pretty much sums up dead cells and windblown
I love those games sooooo much
Play Witchfire, I don't see that many first-person Roguelikes(-lite) often and Witchfire is definitely one of the most polished ones out there.
witchfires sooooo good, especially after the recent updatw
Just dropped 45 hours over Christmas. Absolutely great game, excited for its future.

"The Avatar of Robot Gun Violence." Should be a box quote.
dang that looks fun, for real, good to see you again skooch haven't gotten recommended you in a while! Hope things are good, channel looks solid!
Mother gunship is an amazing game that lets you build your own weapons, and has great humor

this just looks... exactly like mothergunship, wtf
try mothergunship, similar to this that released back in 2018
I never exoect3d to hear zentaro’s theme in a skooch video. Big win for me

so, that is a gunfire reborn but with more liberty
I am waiting for the day this man finds Disfigure, the free to play rougelike
This is minuscule and random, but I feel like ‘vibe’ would definitely be a better name for the ‘vibro’ element/effect.

This game looks great! Reminds me of playing Mothergunship some while ago a bit somehow.
It's like the love child of Megaman and Borderlands.
I'm still so happy I won this game off your giveaway on twitter dude. My brain is folding as I absorb what I can from this video.
It's so fast I don't get to appreciate the robots at all.
the one i've been enjoying a lot this days is Ravenswatch
It's confirmed. He is him.
"That was sooo ddifficult" bro you barely took anby damage. lool
by the footage the game gives me some Doom Eternal vibes, and I'm interested.
never heard of this game, it looks awesome
Just wanted to write i really enjoyed magicraft, thanks.
Skootch! you should try "Mothergunship" that game LITERALLY lets yo build your own guns. not perks. not stats. An actual gun-building mechanic!
Enjoy!
Customization??? In a game???
I like it!
You'll have to fight Yakko Semen for the title of "Rougelike Guy" .
Hutts is out there too
What borderlands wishes it was

im not sure if it counts as a rouge-like but i really enjoyed arcadegeddon
Not big on FPS roguelikes, but with the Overwatch graphics and a much more readable HUD like in Apex, that could be doable for me.
