- For the signal chain at the intro, I used a Kingtone Octaland into the 1959 Bassman and an Isle of Tone Luxe 66 Fuzz on the bass.

Man what a rad guitar! Those slashes out of the back are intense. Pretty sure the previous owner was wolverine. Amazing playing buddy.
*Keep signing zee papers Robert Baker.*
would love to see you guys jam !
Only marks on my old Strat are the result of being bit by a puppy! 😊
@@dhis888 Yea that would be neat .👍
I'm pretty sure the previous owner was a hand operated door opening device lol.
That neck pickup is THE Strat sound for me. Beautiful tone.
70s Strat headstocks, the bell-bottoms of the guitar world. ;-) Fantastic playing!
Best analogy I've heard in awhile *chefs kiss*😜👍
I love that!
True very cool looking large headstocks ... unlike most bell-bottoms ! lol
Love that anology. I hated those headstocks when I first started playing but love them now.
Man, that strat with the '59 Bassman was like something you'd hear on so many recordings in the day. Superb.
That tone in the intro was incredible
Yep!
I dig those real vibey 70s strats. They look like they need to be played in front of thousands of people. Good job as always.
Maybe someday they will again 😎
The "With Syncronised Tremolo" decal was discontinued alltogether during 1971. All guitars thereafter had the same headstock decal, irrespective of bridge style.
I Love My 74 stratocaster, Sounds like no other
Its cool seeing the olympic white under the lacquer
Well that blows the myth that 70's guitars aren't cool right out the water.
That's a beauty you've got there Mathew.
One of the many that "got away". Had a chance to get a white HT strat for $200 back in the '70's.
70s Strats are killer, the best sounding Strats ever. The ones where the neck doesn't wobble around of course :)
Definitely a keeper! I'm glad YOU found that one!
i will watch any strat vids you put up, i especially love 70s strats. i love my ‘74.
8:21 that little "Riviera Paradise" Thanks.
Yes Matthew, you did indeed do it justice.
Love the wear and tear, please authenticate this instrument.
Peace
I think I will! Thank you! ✌🏻
Stellar playing and a fine guitar, indeed. And give that fantastic '59 Bassman a lot of credit, too. Living up to its reputation here.
I don’t think I would ever be able to put that thing down if I had her.. That’s what it’s all about right there … A strat thru a 64 reverb .. you DID do it justice , man… You’ve got a gift my friend… 🍻
So good to see a 70's Strat getting some love. There are decent ones out there! My '73 weighs 7.10lb (with trem) and is an outstandingly good guitar. Sounds and plays amazing. And yes, more content on dating this please and thoughts on 59 / 70's Strat would be much appreciated. Great work!
Wow that's extremely light for a trem strat of any year!
@AJ XOXO It's simply nostalgia. I'm sure there are some excellent specimens from the 50s, 60s and 70s, however, today's guitars are made with much better precision. The independent pickup manufacturers also turn out a much more consistent product. Any good luthier will be able to cut a nut properly as well as level and crown frets to perfection.
There's a lot more to it than that, Joe. And I am not into the superstition like many are.
@@joesmith8398 Not sure what it is but take it from someone who has owned 50 strats over the years and currently have a dozen or so. They can all be set up tp play and sound great but once in a while there is that "one" that just plays and sounds noticeably better then others and for me it has been a few 70's Strats. Wish I could figure out exactly why.
Not to mention I own and have owned many other guitars besides Strats old and new but being I am discussing the best playing and sounding it simply has been a few 70's Strats in my experience as a pro player and collector..
Hey Matthew, i just want to say thank you. The last year have been tough (for all im sure) but you, tom bukovac, Tim pierce and that pedal show have just inspired me a lot. Keep being you, keep playing and again, thank you for making things better. :) lots of love from Denmark :-)
Thank you Thomas, that means very much!
I had an amazing 73 Strat. I miss that guitar dearly. It was a Daphne blue nitro refin with maple fretboard. Just an incredible player. It changed a lot of people’s minds about 70’s Stratocasters. I admit it was hands down the best one I’ve played so maybe it was a 1/1000 guitar. But they do exsist. Mine was a tremolo guitar but wasn’t heavy at all.
Man that sounds like a good one. They exist!
+1 for the authentication video. That Super tone is divine!
Well, so much for the people that say 70s strats aren't worth a crap. That thing rocks! Kudos to you on your playing, brother...you really do excel on getting the most out of a guitar
_Yngwie and Richie have entered the chat…_
@@j_freed not talking about the ones who made them great...talking about the snob collectors that snub their noses at them. Ritchey happens to be my favorite guitarist, and Yngwie is a legend.
There are some great ones out there!
authentication video for the win! especially with the hardtail one!
Yes PLEASE do a year authentication vid. Us Strat aficionados can never get enough of that and I am an early 70's fanatic.
I’m a fifty year guitar picker and you are an awesome player
I have a 1974 hardtail Strat, as well. It's as light as a feather, sounds great and has very stable tuning. I just picked up a period correct case for it a few days ago.
First of all: Thanks a bunch fo the video!! I've been waiting for that one since you posted a pic of that Strat on your social media. And yes, please do an authentication video! That 70's Strat content is exactly what I love.
Btw my '77 OW hardtail weighs 6lbs 13oz (probably the lightest Strat I've ever played) and I've had other relatively light 70's Strats. So, there are definitely more out there that don't break your back as easily as the infamous "boats".
Thats incredibly light! Congrats on that one ✌🏻👍🏻
I have a 70s p bass that has gone yellow,I have and do love it,had it for 34 years, still going strong.great video matt.from an English man in Poland.
Yes, please post a video of the insides. 70's Strats are my favorites. Especially in Olympic White.
I only just started playing, but I'm using my grandpa's old sunburst 1973-74 strat. It's lovely.
Matt your blues kicks are on point. By far one of the best improv blues players on UA-cam.
Gorgeous Strat ...ooh those tones ...and great playing ...my 73 blonde Tele has aged to that yellowy nitro too' ...Please do the dating episode, it'll be worth it'
It's an absolute pleasure to hear someone your age play as well as you do with the feel and sound of somebody much older
That front pick up thru the Bassman sounds insane ..Thanks for putting it up
You are developing a really good touch on the instrument Matthew, the playing tone and vibrato was beautiful… Thank you.
That means very much to me. Thank you.
Worth a deep dive for sure !!!
Thanks, hope the day will come that we can see content from you more often.
Awesome man, incredible guitar, surely someone will recognize it and the story may come to light.. but yes always love when you tear them down to check out the details inside.
That thing is awesome. And so is the playing as usual.
The tone of that guitar through that Bassman is butter.
Like most of Matthew’s videos, came for the guitar, stayed for the playing I would love to see the authentication video.
Wow....loved that technique where you hit the harmonic kind of above the neck pickup....never thought about that 🤯🤯
great video ! would Love to see you take apart that strat and look what's INSIDE!
Ya. Love to see a full review on this guitar. Really like to see those date codes. Love your videos. Keep up the good work!🤟🖖👍👍👍
Thanks Darlene!🤘🏻
I've got a 70's hardtail Strat. Very nice guitar. Glad to see them getting some love.
Changes on mine:
Put on graph tech bridge saddles with flush screws to avoid the annoying screws digging into your hand on palm muting sensation.
Graph Tech nut as well.
5 position switch, of course.
Rewired the tone pot from the neck pickup, where you never want to roll off treble, to the bridge pickup, where you always want to roll off treble.
I've lived with these variation for years and I believe they all improve playability.
Man that guitar and the bassman with your playing is fantastic
Loved my 75 Strat...lots of folks don't care foe them much but not me! I LOVED mine! Nice axe Matt!
If anyone making YT videos could do this guitar justice it's you. That neck pup and Bassman, just killer!! Thanks for the demo.
Oh dude!!! The entrance of the video just made my day. Hell yes...
Peace✌
I love our authentication videos, would love to see you dive into this beauty!
That is the best Strat sound I have ever heard. It’s so warmer and full.
Cool, I have a 1974 that looks just like it, hardtail and all. It is a great guitar. Mine weighs about 7 lbs or less. Great playing as always!
It would be so funny if somebody routed one of these for a tremolo, and maybe put a Wilkinson or something on it… But I bet the tone would be bad ass.
Thanks Matt, I look forward to each vid. Keep doing what you do.
Take it apart and show us under the hood.
I recently ordered a Fender Mod Shop Strat. I went with the hardtail. It is Bordeaux metallic with the thick 60s neck with r/w board and I got the Pure Vintage '59 pickups.
Man u can hear how good it sounds on that opening bend, love the snap those hardtails put on the note
Been waiting for this video ever since you posted pics of the guitar on your Instagram and was not disappointed, things got some vibe to it!
I love 70s Strats! I’ve wanted one ever since I saw Billy Corgan’s blue one and his Gish guitar.
I love the Gish strat with the Ghost on it.Was that the one he put up for auction at a million bucks???lmao cool but ain't that cool...he has a cool Billy corgan strat that's blue with white stars all over it you can get that's Badass...later,have a good one.
Great to see another video, and watch your playing . Dig it .
As much as I’d like to see you authenticate it, I almost don’t want you to take it apart at all. It sounds so good, and finding a 70’s hard tail is so rare, I’m almost afraid if you take it apart, it might lose something. lol Thanks again Matt for another great video!
Sweet ride. Great playing and another amazing find. Keep it up, Brother.
Great sounding Strat, the neck pickup is particularly sweet. When you turned it over I was quite surprised with all of the katana carvings, what a belt buckle that guy had😁. Great intro, that bass tone is awesome and ballsy. Thanks man for the vid.
could listen to your playing all day , so much depth thanks
I can feel the volume in that room. So good!
That guitar through the Super Reverb...Just WOW!!
I've been painting guitars using a similar color from Duplicolor. This gives me an idea to paint white underneath, and wet sand/distress the yellow. Awesome playing as usual man!
God that strat with the super reverb is glorious. Great playing as always.
In about a month or so, I’m going to be purchasing an early 70s Matsumoku era Greco strat and I’m getting SUPER excited about it. Every video that I’ve seen about those kind of guitars has made me giddy with anticipation to own one for myself. It would be so cool if you could make a video about those wonderful 70s Greco strats.
Fantastic tones especially coming out of the fender bassman ..... I have a 1970 strat I bought in 1970 when I was 14. cost me 235 bucks brand new .. still have it.. it weighs in at 7 lbs ..its a sunburst with rosewood neck... still extremely playable... always stays in tune... I do have the tremolo version... some neck wear and paint wear on the edges in a few places..... its a fantastic instrument in my book...
Great video, great playing as always. Once again this shows that even these 70s Fenders can be sleepers and great players, somebody must have really loved it, played the heck out of it. Imagine where it’s been and what’s been played on it…
Geez dude, with that ‘64 I could have listened to you and that guitar for hours. I love that guitar. It’s crazy how great you are at playing.
Yes yes yes!! Do the authenticating video, those are super cool. I’m a huge hardtail fan, I’d love to know more about this guitar
Its a beauty! Please make an in depth video about it
Would love a video of you opening it up and showing us the guts. Beautiful strat, great playing, immense tone as always.
I have a '71 and '72 strat 3 bolt and they sound incredible. So go ahead and pay an extra $8k for an 4 bolt. It won't sound any better. Matt just proved that.
Thanks Matt👍🙂
Love it! I have a 79 hardtail, 8 lbs, plays and sounds amazing. I’d love to see under the hood of yours!
Very cool
Dude, your playing is just great, i would listen to an entire ep on just an instrumental of you playing
What a great sound. Well done Matt. Let's see what is inside.
thanks Richard!
Dude that sound is freakin killer. And through a bassman at that. Man I need an octavia pedal.
Thanks for the content Matthew. Keep them coming for sure. Also I would be interested in seeing an authentication video. Always like seeing the guts to beautiful guitars
Thank you Bruce! 🤘🏻
I got a lot of stuff, and make quite a few teles and Strats - my 75’ Stratocaster was my number 1 , and still is to this day
That playing at the beginning sounded nothing like Richie Blackmore but for some reason, all I could think of was Richie Blackmore…🤠
Great playing as always… Thanks for another entertaining video!
Matt, sooo sooo thankful for these videos. Last month or so has been a living hell here in California because of fire. These videos are such a great escape.
Love the bigger headstock, sweet guitar!! Always entertaining! Thanks!
Thank Matt....
That's one sweet sounding ride !!
GREAT SCOTT MATT!!! ALWAYS SWEEEEET PLAYING!!!
Dude I could listen to you play like that all day 👏
I have it’s twin!! A ‘74 highly percussive, super light Olympic White hard tail!! Sounds killer Matthew! Yeah…I’d love to see a dissection of that guitar for sure!
wow!! love it!!! theres a video of billy corrigan from smashing pumpkins on youtube about him getting back his strat after it was missing 20 years! this looks exactly like it!! some guitars just have that magic!! and this looks like one of them!! beautiful strat man!
I'VE KNOWN THIS FOR YEARS BUT THANKS FOR PROVING THAT A LARGE AMOUNT OF 70'S STRATS ARE NOT JUNK!
Think your videos are awesome I’ve been watching you for a while you are one of the best guitarist I’ve ever seen and thank you for all your videos on all your classic old guitars redoing guitars old amps and everything else that you do 🤘🇺🇸☘️
Me thinks the magic is more in Matthew's hands than the guitar. Does not matter what axe he picks up, my mood if lifted. Note: the one, only one "dislike" is probably from the guy who wrote the obscenities on the strat.
You showcased that beauty beautifully!
Fantastic! I remember jamming in the 70s with Fenders.
Wooah. That thing sounds awesome.
Great video as always Matt.
Flawless!!!! Yessss, another visit with this guitar, Applause!!!!!!
You reminded me why i love fenders so much, thanks!
Do you ever worry that reincarnation is real, and do you get that feeling extra strong when you watch someone like Matthew play guitar?
What a killer guitar, and what great playing to demonstrate it. I never thought I'd love a 70's Strat but congratulations, you sold me.
Please do the authentication video those are awesome
