I'm French and a Lille fan and seeing Paris struggling so much while all the other French team are cooking has been the best thing about this champion's league so far. You should have a look at Lille's Coach, Bruno Genesio, called Pep Genesio here, the man has beaten Mourinho, Ancelloti, Simeone this year and Guardiola a few years ago, ridiculous.
I'm sorry but the performance of the French clubs this year has NOTHING to do with the format. Monaco beat Barcelona in a 11v10, nothing to do with the format. Lille beat a weak Real Madrid, that's great but is absolutely not related to the fact it's a league format.
I will never understand the thought that Netherlands and Belgium sides are considered easy wins ,i would argue they are always the dark horses of tournaments ,imo PSV and Brugge are the best teams outside the top 5 leagues and they could upset some teams . (I consider Benfica Sporting and Porto on the level of top 5 league teams ,so i dont think of them as small clubs ). And keep in mind i dont even live there or support any of these clubs .
PSV also dominated sporting in their game but ended in a draw. Feyenoord beat Benfica 3-1 COMFORTABLY. PSV almost went trough against dortmund last year who ended up being in the finals. I think there will be some very surprising results to be coming up. :P
Great video! Here are my comments. 1. Leipzig are for sure in trouble. My prediction is that they will need 8 or 9 points to make it to the playoff round, meaning 2 wins and 2 draws at minimum (3 wins is the other option), which is not easy with the schedule you highlighted. 2. I have less expectation for Girona because they were a surprise team last year that lost a number of players due to their success. They are mid-table in La Liga and their Champions League debut (remember) was always gonna be difficult. Girona also is only their 3rd season in La Liga (after getting promoted) so this isn't the same as a Sevilla or Villareal or Sociedad. So stating that Girona last "La Liga expectations" to the same level is not fair. Lastly, Bologna falls under the same scrutiny based on your logic of "Top League teams should advance" 3. Real Madrid (IMO) is in real danger to not be in the Top 8. I am projecting that 18 points and above will get you into the Top 8, meaning RM would have to win out to do so. 4. Great season for Sporting! They could be a Top 8 contender. Wins against Leipzig, Club Brugge, and Bologna seem probable, giving them 19 points at least. 5. Perhaps fixture congestion is weighing on Aston Villa as they have also dropped points in the Premier League, always hard to balance priority between the 2 competitions. 6. Bayern has a good schedule to finish off. Home against PSG and then Shakhtar, Feyenoord, and Bratislava. Bayern can win all of those IMO, securing Top 8 status. 7. AC Milan is one of two teams (Arsenal) that played all their Pot 1 and 2 opponents first. This gives them a great platform to win out and finish with 18 points, Top 8 perhaps. 8. For Arsenal, their matchups are tougher despite the previous fact. However, Girona and Zagreb are not at the same level. Arsenal have the ability to win out, if they do, they are in the Top 8. 9. Stade Brestois is winning the games they need to in order to advance. They do have a tough road ahead. RM and Barca are tough games. Any other points now are bonus as they have already qualified for playoffs IMO. 9. PSG are in trouble for sure. They need 2 wins to advance into playoffs (barely). Stuttgart and Salzberg are the best games for that. 10. Loving this new format too!
It’s interesting that nobody can predict cutoff points for #8 and #24. In a couple of years teams will have that experience and there will be less drama
Also just from the experience of playing FM the top 24 cutoff is usually 9 points (likely to be 10 this year due to a lack of draws and a lot of 0-point teams)

How can Zealand not mention how Villa lost the game. With Mings picking up the ball in the penalty area like he covered the other day from the Bundesliga 2.
At the end of the group everything will level up. This new format is made to decrease surprises that were already very rare in CL. A small team could get lucky, get in a group with a couple of big teams that were not doing great, surprise them in the double and take them out but when you have 8 games, spread all over... it evens out. idk the only team they're yet to play who's above them in the food chain is Bayern. Frankfurt's also absolutely rolling atm, but other than that they're expected to win all other games
@ Yeah I agree with you if you look at the table but they still have to face Frankfurt, Bayern and stuttgart. The only strong teams they could beat this season were leverkusen und Freiburg. You can always count on Leibzig to beat these teams however they haven’t really been convincing this season and have had troublesome wins against small sides
@@Sphagetti__ The dutch clubs gained a lot of points via Conference league, so it's normal to expect that they won't be doing much until they fall back to 7th or 8th in the coefficient rankings again.
The thing about Stuttgart is is that they lost a couple of very important players who would have benefited their cause massively this season. However, they still managed to make a big name fumble the ball and that was against Juventus. I think something similar could happen with PSG and Stuttgart don't have it all too dificult with Red Star, Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys. I think they can catch themselves and at least save a spot in the Top 24 and play the playoffs.
Some of these biggest teams are going through a bit of a slump Real Madrid, Man City and a few others. I want to wait until next season to see how this format really faces the test of time The thing that makes this league stage more entertaining than the former league stage so far is that the individual teams face 8 different teams to advance. That's a lot of chance to go forward unlike the former style of two games.
I agree with you about Amorim. It show's poor character that he's left Sporting when they are on course for a champions league and league title. He could've said he's not available until the summer and saw out the season. Man U wont change
Idk if you plan on making a video about the Villa game but the reason they lost was a stupid penalty that Tyrone mings gave away. He did the same thing that Gabriel did in the champions league last year and a penalty wasn’t given. just watch the highlights and you’ll see. it’ll be good for a zealandism I think
You mention Aston Villa, but I reckon you'll be mentioning in a seperate video about how they lost seeing as you did a video about the same thing few months ago
I like the league format where you have to play more matches instead of getting lucked out in qualifiers like real madrid. No wonder they hate this format 😂. If all the teams play each other, then only we'll know who is the real champion.
7:38 its alright at villa. It was stupid how they lost coz tyrone mings unknowingly, bare with me, picks up the ball when it was in play by Emiliano Martinez. Like wtf😭
That villa goal they conceded you will not see again very often, especially if you are an arsenal fan, as they got away with something very similar last year. Little old villa do not have that power over refs though right?
My only issue with this format is that only the top 8 teams qualify directly. It should be 12. This would create sections of 3 thirds. It's the most fair. Also, for the point of view of a club: why invest a lot of energy into every single game if it's super likely that it's the last game will decide it all. With the current system, as a manager, I would try to get into the playoffs and that's it. Trying to get into the top 8 is too much stress for too little chances. At top 12, thr odds become more realistic and there's more reason to compete for direct advancement.
@@KuddochanAnd Arsenal also committed the same foolishness against Bayern at the Emirates Stadium but the referee said "just a child mistake" like wtf?
Don’t really understand the Dutch league comment. PSV and Feyenoord are legitimately good teams, particularly PSV and I’d argue that both have stronger squads than Girona
Now although the more games stuff and some few other small details I don't agree with clearly this new system is beneficial for the lower teams so far cause htf is real madrid 18th in the league I mean I'm glad I'm a barca fan we safe for now but when yuh think Madrid you say top 8 instantly not necessarily first or second but still there but these underdogs have been doing good so far some of them at least

Why do you always underestimate the Dutch league?
exactly, I don't see how a midtable La Liga team should be expected to beat the top 2 Eredivisie sides that are perhaps better than "ten Hag's Ajax"
@@Sphagetti__ The dutch clubs gained a lot of points via Conference league, so it's normal to expect that they won't be doing much until they fall back to 7th or 8th in the coefficient rankings again.
@@trailoffiends Still, the top Dutch clubs should realistically be a good match for a middle of the table la liga side
@@Sphagetti__ True but I don't think he denied that, rather that an away visit to a midtable La Liga team is not easy.
@trailoffiends he insinuated that Girona shouldn't be even close to losing to any Eredivisie team except "ten Hag's Ajax"
I think they can catch themselves and at least save a spot in the Top 24 and play the playoffs.
as a barcelona and liverpool fan im eating really good
We cookin' :)
Some of these biggest teams are going through a bit of a slump
Real Madrid, Man City and a few others.
I want to wait until next season to see how this format really faces the test of time
The thing that makes this league stage more entertaining than the former league stage so far is that the individual teams face 8 different teams to advance. That's a lot of chance to go forward unlike the former style of two games.
I think it works because it allows pot 4s to play other pot 4s to provide some randomness.
RB Leipzig might actually end the league stage with 0 points. Insane stuff. Love the new format.
I agree with you about Amorim. It show's poor character that he's left Sporting when they are on course for a champions league and league title. He could've said he's not available until the summer and saw out the season. Man U wont change
9:40 Atalanta, Georgia
Dinamo Zagreb ate 9 against bayern and now theyre ahead of them. 😂. I love this format
we need a vid on forest pull sm crazy stuff off rn
Idk if you plan on making a video about the Villa game but the reason they lost was a stupid penalty that Tyrone mings gave away. He did the same thing that Gabriel did in the champions league last year and a penalty wasn’t given. just watch the highlights and you’ll see. it’ll be good for a zealandism I think
This format is awesome finaly champions LEAGUE looks like a league
You mention Aston Villa, but I reckon you'll be mentioning in a seperate video about how they lost seeing as you did a video about the same thing few months ago
Never doubted on my end
I like the league format where you have to play more matches instead of getting lucked out in qualifiers like real madrid. No wonder they hate this format 😂. If all the teams play each other, then only we'll know who is the real champion.
Zealand backtracking further than his hairline
I'm not convinced about City bouncing back. Their upcoming fixtures seem tough.
Little Villa got eaten up by Brugge, they'd concede either way
It wasn't last year it was in April this year that Arsenal handball happened.
Thought I'd miss the old group stage, I don't.
The fact people thought this format would be worse was just too laughable for me, i laughed at you.
3:12 Come on Google give my boy Omar a profile picture 😭 He really deserves it
I think it might be harder to scout in this format. Wonder if thats a factor.
Im kinda like this new format ... My biggest fear is that this helps super league to happen in the future
Now drop to 6 league phase games and get rid of the knockout state with places 9 to 24 and it's a great format
Now that's what you call football, not just real Madrid and man city winning every year lol
4:23 Savio was there on loan 😭
CFG shit
More than okay actually
Elon r u ok
Now Ac Milan has to face Dinamo Zagreb, S. Bratislava, Girona and Crvena Zvezda. Anything less than 18 points in total would be embarassing tbh
Mr receding hairline r u running
That Brugge Penalty is the weirdest moment i have seen this year.
If you want some real weirdness, this actually happened *twice* in the same game a month ago in the Bundesliga 2 between Magdeburg and Greuther Fürth
Nah there was that game where the same handball happened twice
yeah but Villa were really bad the whole game and were dominated by Bruges so the victory was deserved
@@KuddochanAnd Arsenal also committed the same foolishness against Bayern at the Emirates Stadium but the referee said "just a child mistake" like wtf?
Let me explain: All the biggest teams are exhausted because of the match frequency
TALK ABOUT THE RED BULL TAKEOVER OF OMIYA ARDIJA
The champion of England, Germany, and Spain all lost by four goal deficits on the same match day…
I'm here shouting 'PSG' and he doesn't talk about them till the end of the video 😅
Don’t really understand the Dutch league comment. PSV and Feyenoord are legitimately good teams, particularly PSV and I’d argue that both have stronger squads than Girona
Yeah, and honestly PSV deserved the win against Sporting as well, but that was just bakayoko and our other attackers being terrible
"after you played Real, its only going to be easier" laughs in Dortmund, who has played Real and has yet to face Barcelona
If i need an American, football expert to explain the league to me its over complicated
It’s very simple I think you are just slow tbh
Omg finally the champions league is not just the big teams running away with it
what website do you use for these videos?
PSV was actually unbeaten tho till last week. They faced ajax my fave club and lost
PSG struggled with Neymar, Mbappe and Messi, why do we all expect so much from them lol
I love the European Super League :D
Dinamoo💙
