Congratulation Rob, these look and sound sublime. I'm totally gonna get one as soon as I can, that natural finish one is just gorgeous and man that woody, organic sound they have is the sound I've been looking for for years.
No joke, you put this video out in 2012, it's almost the end of 2015, and I'm putting money aside to get myself one of these almost four years late. Looks amazing, sounds amazing, and I don't have to cut off my arm or sell my soul to pay for it. Cheers, man. I'll be rocking one of these in WA, USA as soon as I'm able.
My wife bought me an Antique Sunburst ML-1 for my birthday and it's now my first choice. Sounds amazing.

Thanks man, I actually stubbled onto the concept when I was fooling around with twist ties in the tremolo cavity (I wanted a bit more tension but not a full extra spring), and BAM, stability!

Wow Chappers, I am just so proud for you. This really is a legitimizing step up from the first run of ML1s. That flame top is just so dam sexy, SO much sweeter then the flat black.
I dont know if youll really read this I have a suggestion I think YOU will really appreciate. Now I know it would mean a spec change but I think the ML1 would really benefit from haveing a volume just for the hum, that way you can switch from a "rolled back" clean to a heavy tone just by switching pickups.

Holy hell Chappers! These things sound amazing! Wasn't won over by the original run because I personally don't like modding guitars too much and prefer to keep them stock. Might have to get one of these though. Your original line did exactly what it was meant to. Give people who like modding guitars exactly what their after. This though, these are my kind of thing. Not gunna get a nicer guitar anywhere in the UK at these prices. Gunna be near Gilford later in the year. Can I try one in store?

Chappers! Just wanted to say first of all I love your videos and you have given me new inspiration to continue my guitar playing, and for that I thank you deeply, from the bottom of my heart.
Secondly, I unfortunately not able to get an ML-1.... :( I know from previous videos that this is the second run for them, is there a possibility of there being a third run in the future? I'd absolutely LOVE to get my paws on one of these, it's just not in the cards right now :(

Looks like I'm going to get over my 24-fret hangups so I can get myself an ML-1! These are also the first guitars where I've liked the look of the flamed maple top, normally I think a quilt would look better but not here.

You might know this, but when you engage the coil tap it changes the way the selector switch works and what pickups are activated in each position, it doesn't just affect the bridge humbucker. So yeah, it might not be the same as having a 5 way switch there but you can get most of the different configurations/sounds that you would get with a 5 way just with a 3 way and a coil tap. I think anyway.
The difference is subtle, but it definitely is there - the thinner the finish, the more it allows the wood to vibrate - hence the more open, 'toppier' tone. Finish also (and perhaps more importantly) changes the feel of a guitar - how it responds to the player's subtleties. So it does make a difference, and I mean when you compare thick laquer vs thin oil finish or something equally dramatic difference - of course it doesn't matter, sound-wise, whether you paint your guitar red or blue ;)
The composition of the guitar is what defines the resonant frequencies of the instrument or the key frequencies that the guitar will tend to vibrate at when given energy (plucking a string or knocking on the body/neck). Therefore changing the thickness of the finish will have an impact to the sound of the guitar through these frequencies. It’s similar to putting tubing on the tremolo springs to dampen them; generally the thicker the finish the more dampening of higher frequencies.

Having a lubricant is really key to getting vintage trems to stay in tune. I recently setup my Squier strat using lube and it's a whole world of difference. I don't know if I'll ever go back to using a floyd now.

Oh my. The new standard is beautiful Chappers. Your company does does customs right? I'm looking for my fourth guitar and I would love to support the cause, how ever I am partial to maple caps and mahogany bodies that are not color finished.

Reveal binding was my all time favorite part of my old Ibanez SA 220FM. I wish I hadnt gotten rid of that guitar.
I think I'm getting one myself, once I got the spare money. For the price it seems the best guitar one can find. I hope there will be a retailer in Germany sometime.

that wood grain one is cool man sounds like a great seller.. by the way it look and plays your bound to sell a ton.. brilliant.. think you will ever go with the single coil i like the humbuker sound but you can not beat the cool calm tone's and pitch's of the single coil sound..??

The Ml1 trans black is such a sick looking beast, however when its time to purchase one of these amazing guitars i think i may go with the Natural finish with black back n sides, it looks more like a custom guitar and i prefer no frills finishes, like the original in satin black. i wish these came in a few solid colour options like the Charvel So Cal / San Dimas range of super strats. i suppose you could always get a natural one and paint it, its def cheap enough to make a project out of. :-)
If you're in the UK you use the "reserve & collect" feature to pay the 10% deposit. If you're outside the UK then we have to do deposits via PAYPAL or credit card - email the guys at the store & they'll sort you out.
Yeah , the ebony fretboard for the price is amazing. I would really like to have a test drive on one of these but Im not in the UK.
The black finish is amazing but the natural finish just sounds better to me. Must say that I was surprised that the finish could effect the tone that drastically. Guess I'll have to order one of each. Delivery in January 2013?
ibanez does in fact manufacture some guitars in the u.s.a at the L.A. custom shop but they are not available to the general public, rather only signed artists

A cheep but effective way to lube a nut is using a #2 pencil, or led pencil. (led made out of graphite) It works.
No dude, what happens is (If you live in the UK) you just click to buy the guitar as normal, but then in your delivery options choose "Reserve & Collect", then it just calculates 10% of the order which you pay then... you pay the remaining 90% when the guitar arrives in Jan. They ship it to you for free.
If you are outside the UK, the same thing happens but you have to contact Andertons to get an accurate shipped price.

Damn, I wish I'd have grabbed an original ML-1 back in the day. Put some DiMarzios in, it'd be a beast. Love the reissues though, pickups seem decent.
yeah...me too - near perfect guitar for me after years of scouring the net, just 24 frets and a carved top would be amazing :-) maybe humbuckers and a coil tap - Ok now that 3 things I would change haha :-P
