Sorry. I somehow missed this!! 11 Months old already! Any common, silica sand will work. Just never try to use sand over a burner in a moist environment, like outdoors. The sand will clump as soon as it is damp and the gas will not come up where you are expecting it. Only a courser material, such as FireGlass or lava rock should be used outdoors.
