    Anyone can mix up the notes of a tune and play them, and that’s a kind of jazz but it’s not great to listen to . . . To play the notes well and make the music beautiful requires the kind of musical talent that was described to me once as being the most precise form of imprecision and I am reminded of that description every time I watch one of your videos.
    Udo, you are the jazzman of the furniture world. Thanks for all your videos.

    • @udoaas2466
      @udoaas2466  9 місяців тому

      Hi quirkygreece and thanks for the kind words. It seems that we both have a habit of looking at things with music. You say I'm a jazzman. I hope that you don't only think of jazz as a musical style, but also as a method of making music where the result is not predetermined and you go with the flow, trying to stay in harmony with the vibrations created by the flow.
      It seems to me that music is generally made in two different ways.
      In one case, the story is written, learned and practiced carefully so that it always comes out the same. In this kind of music, the harmony of the vibrations generated by the current may still be present, it depends on the person. In the worst case, the music is made only with the help of mathematical formulas, and such music is really unpleasant to listen to.
      In the second case, the ability to express oneself in music is learned. Mastery of the instrument is practiced and singing is practiced. But music is born from those patterns that are in yourself and around you. To do this, it is necessary to be alert and attentive to the current.
      It's pretty much the same story with the furniture I make in these videos. Apart from the technology of making furniture, I also need constant alertness and attention so that the forms are in harmony with each other. But the forms are always different.
      The patterns that appear in the flow are also always different.
      The analogy of matching inaccuracies to accuracy is correct. When making such furniture, inaccuracies are needed to match different forms. That's why I make this furniture from soft wood, not hard wood.
      So if you call this furniture making jazz, I totally agree.

      Hi David. It's a pleasure to meet a carpenter like me in the best years. I noticed that even the beginnings of carpentry, you in 1995 and me in 1996, are more or less similar. I hope your move is done. Pretty big undertaking. I do not imagine that I should undertake such a move myself. Uuhhhh. Anyway, thank you for writing. I watch your videos and I am probably learning something, or maybe I can say something useful !! Greetings, Udo!

    доброе утро из Греции. Я плотник-любитель и мне очень нравится делать мебель из стволов деревьев, какую древесину вы предпочитаете использовать?

    • @udoaas2466
      @udoaas2466  Рік тому +2

      Привет Θεοδώρα из Греции. Приятно встретить плотника со схожими интересами. Для изготовления мебели я использую серую ольху, это довольно мягкая древесина. Я использую более мягкую древесину в первую очередь потому, что стыки в мягкой древесине лучше подходят друг к другу, чем в твердой, а мягкость древесины также дает небольшой шанс совместить разные углы.
      Привет из Эстонии.

      The spiral drills I use in the red drill are very effective in drilling large holes, but they don't go through to the end, there are about 2-3 millimeters left. Must push. When pushed through a flat surface, tears appear. If you push through the round material, there will be many more tears. That's why I'm not pushing through, I'm hitting the other side with a small hammer, as you can see in the video.
      Those few years with me ... uh ... I hope you're kidding. I can barely make a living from this job, I can't afford an apprentice.

    • @udoaas2466

      I drilled 30 mm holes in it with a spiral drillbit. If you drill right through with such a drillbit, it tears the pieces from the other side. That's why I didn't drill all the way through, but only as far as the drill's feed spiral moved forward, about 3 millimeters remained, I hammerd them through from the other side and cleaned the edges of the hole with a knife. Was I understandable?
