Making rustic wooden chest from live edge slabs
#woodworking,#rusticfurniture,#diy
I strongly believe that if you are doing a woodworking project with live edge wood, stick to the style and avoid straight lines unless it's absolutely necessary.

      I usually agree with you, but not on this one. Cold and hot are normal in my mind. Also normality is good and bad. Without them, a person would be just a lump of jelly. It's just that ... bad is not to harm a person, but to teach him.

      @@udoaas2466 I know you are right. Perhaps that was what I was trying to convey in a crude manner. This struggle is in my opinion what makes a man. Physically, mentally and emotionally. Life was never meant to be easy. I know for me this is what has forced me to grow. I think we all have a choice in most things. We can muster all that is in us or give up and lay down and die. I really appreciate you for teaching me and I can tell you have a lot of spiritual insights... could also be a little bit of language and cultural differences... but I think I understand.

      @@donscottvansandt4139 I think I understand what you mean now. Yes, there is a linguistic and cultural difference. Although the deeper one goes into spiritual meanings, the more people are alike, even people from very different traditions. And it is all the more difficult to make your thoughts understandable, or to understand, with the help of words, especially through written words. But I think I understood what you meant now. That going through difficulties makes us stronger people.

    Excellent build, Sir. The dowels you hammer into the tenon braces... are they larger diameter than the holes you drill?

    • @udoaas2466
      @udoaas2466 Місяць тому

      Thanks BigBrownCar. Yes, the holes are 8mm. and dowels 12 mm. The dowels are cylindrical and there is no wedge effect, but in soft wood the difference in sizes still creates pressure that prevents it from loosening.

      @udoaas2466 thank you for replying. I very much enjoy your build style, and your various homemade tools and jigs. All very clever. You remind me of my late father's side of my family, who are Latvian. As a child, my father came to the U.S. with his mother and so many other Latvians as refugees during WW2. Many stayed and built their new lives here, including my father. And as I grew up, I remember observing the Latvian men using their minds and hands to create wonderful things like homes and furniture. My father actually even built the log home in which I grew up. And the Latvian women's cooking is a craft by itself! I realize you are Estonian, and I don't mean to compare you to Latvian. I only see a very close resemblance and I enjoy many memories through your work. Thank you, and I hope you continue sharing your truly wonderful craftsmanship.

      I would add that this work has also been quite a pain. I have searched for many solutions to the problems and some of the searches have been quite arduous. Because it has also been my source of livelihood, I have been in a lot of trouble so many times. Hence the balance. There has been both pleasure and pain, but the pleasure side has always dominated. I find it must be so. But now things are different for me, it's not my livelihood anymore, I'm retired now. There is less work, but more things to do. Thanks for all your comments. It's nice to know that someone cares about the things you do. I completely agree with you that this work has its own mind and it says what it wants to be.
