    Yes MLS has grown quite a bit but I disagree that it attracts anywhere the same level of talent as Europe or South America as regards young players or major coaches - its got a lot of potential and will keep growing, but nowhere close to the traditional big boys.. A long way to go but its positive.

    • @pugetsoundwaves
      @pugetsoundwaves 4 роки тому +6

      Look at how many top young players from Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Brazil, etc that MLS transferred in this season. This year was the biggest talent influx ever, IMO. It's obviously not overall at top Europe or SA level, but it's still seen as a legitimate place for great coaches and high potential young foreigners to go. And at the rate it's growing, who knows where it will be in 10 years.

    • @soccertokki
      @soccertokki 4 роки тому +2

      I don't think young players want to 'go' to South America; in fact, the Brazilian Serie A league is just another development league in European eyes (meaning its sole purpose is to ship teenaged talent to Europe). That said, UEFA Champions League teams are the ultimate 'crown jewel' destination for all aspiring soccer players.

      Lucas Patrick Well not many people outside the Brazilian diaspora follow Brazil's Serie A as closely as people worldwide watch Europe or MLS, it's mostly people like you and I that do. I root for Corinthians, by the way. If you remember the 1994 World Cup winning team, you'd know that half the team belonged to a Brazilian club team. Two years ago, there wasn't a single Brazilian player on Tite's World Cup roster that played for a Brazilian club team. All of the world-class talent would rather go to Europe as teenagers, 'cause that's where the money is. There's not as many players that are that passionate about the Brazilian Serie A anymore, much of Corinthians' current roster is journeymen.

    Love and support for MLS from Bosnia 💙🇧🇦, it is great to see that football is developing in the USA in the right direction, interesting league and fun during the summer, support for Cincinnati and our Haris Medunjanin 🇧🇦💙🔥 PS: What MLS should do is to connect with European football houses, for example to organize at least friendly intercontinental matches to start, to bring USA football closer to the rest of the world, with this move they will gaining better ratings, more investment in the league and popularity in Europe where is temple of football.My humble opinion.Anyway I as european guy love MLS and every year I see improvment 👍💙🇧🇦

      they are non-entity with few exceptions. heck, the LA Galaxy are one of the most successful sports franchises in the country and all it took was for a team to open near downtown LA and instantly shoved aside the Galaxy as LA's team. Turned them into the Clippers. MLS is worse then the NHL when it comes to marketing and long-term planning. And the NHL is HORRIBLE.

    What was not mentioned was the value of Soccer United Marketing, SUM, which the owners buy into. He mentioned that they are really buying into the "American soccer landscape" , which probably is an indirect reference to SUM. But SUM is part of an MLS owners investment, and it provides regular income to the owners which the league doesn't have to report or declare for MLS Player's Association negotiations. So the truth is they aren't really losing money.

      No they should. There’s 51 American states! You’d want atleast 80% states to have an MLS team. They could also add Promotion and Relegation, adding one or two extra divisions to fit in all the teams, it would also increase the fan interest and competitiveness since there’s a cost for being a bad team and a prize for being a good one. Sorry for the paragraph btw

    The MLB, NFL, NBA, & NHL are the best leagues in the world. Best talent. The MLS is on par with the Belgian leagues, somewhere around 11th or 12th best in the world. This in part explains why MLS TV ratings suck.

    • @jaybeaumont5930
      @jaybeaumont5930 4 роки тому +2

      I wouldn't rank MLS that high. They are more top 30 at best than 20. Weaknesses in depth, very weak defensive players on every team, lack of consistency and the lack of ambition keeps them from a top 20 rank. Belgium's league is currently neck and neck with the Netherlands top division in UEFA's ranking. MLS don't even touch that level as CONCACAF's third most successful league internationally. MLS last won a CONCACAF trophy back in 2000 despite regularly having 5 teams enter the competition while Costa Rica won it twice back to back in the mid 2000's despite having less.

    One of the many problems MLS has is perhaps the academy players. Take LA Galaxy, for example. LA Galaxy has some young players, such as Efrahín Alvarez and Nick DePuy, who had to pay a mortgage loan's worth of money just to join the academy. They're not gonna last with the team very long, because ulimately the soccer player's dream, is to play in the World Cup, and the only way to get called up to play for your country is to move to a European club team. Sooner or later, they'll either be attracted to European money like Giovanni Reyna, or get loaned out to have a lackluster season with little playtime like Uriel Anduna. Another thing to note is that a good percentage of LA Galaxy's players are foreign journeymen players, such as the 2018 team of Jurgen Skjelvic, Romain Alessandrini, and Baggio Husidic, leaving Sigi Schmid no room for the development of academy players. The fact that Galaxy is 90% foreign journeymen just says a lot about how well we use our players and how much people want to play for our league. So in short, we're either developing our players to go to Europe, or we're building them into the same journeymen that come here and play for our teams, only to realize that starting a Pure Barre franchise is more rewarding than what they're doing.
    Edit: I also notice a bit of a changing of the guard as the last time an founding MLS team went to a final was 2015, and the last time one went on to win a final was a year earlier. I wonder what Jack McBean's up to these days.
