19M/year, where the company's name is on display year around as well as on TV, is easier to justify than $1 million for a 30 sec commercial during the SuperBowl. Companies spend billions in advertising and marketing. For example, Coca-Cola's marketing budget for 2017 was $ 4 Billion. Naming rights is just 1 form of advertising. MetLife probably spends 100-300 Million a year in TV ads (globally) so $19 M is drop in the bucket.
Because it's like having a naming rights deal for two Separate stadiums, since two teams play there theoretically there should be twice as much foot traffic in the facility just from the NFL games played. Thus the NYG and NYJ said youre paying for both our teams benefit of exposure
What really needs to be done is for the NFL to create a Stadium fund that would kick in 1.5 billion dollars a year to two teams. Each team is ordered by the last time their stadium was renovated, or built. The newest stadiums (Las Vegas & San Diego/LA) would be at the back of the line. Then give 1B to the "New stadium" fund for the team that is at the top of the list, and 500M to the #16 team. Rotate the teams every year and just sequester the money out of TV and other NFL revenues. It is time that WE THE PEOPLE stop funding the stadiums and let the NFL pay for their own renovations/stadiums.

Fascinating - yet you forgot the tax breaks that pro sports teams receive. Each team can depreciate their players in the same way that a corporation can depreciate company equipment. Like how a farmer can depreciate a tractor, or a construction company can depreciate bulldozers. Each NFL player's salary is depreciated over a 5 year period with the IRS - so at the end of 5 years - the NFL owner gets a 100% write-off on a player's salary if the player signs a 5 year contract.

Despite 67000 less high school players play the game, there is a rising popularity of the NFL and playing the sport in Europe, Asia and even Russia. That helps a lot
Seems like they rushed to the ending lol
Hyungjin Sean Moon = 2nd KING
Please make a video on how The Greeen Bay Packers became a non-profit organization.
32 teams received more than $255M in 2018. That’s a nice spread of wealth, good to see that socialism does work.
My dream job is to own a nfl or mlb team
I will start with small league ownership
If i was rich i would buy a race team in my favorite sport NASCAR
my dream job is to be a dictator
Roman Reigns where would you even start
You need to do something else to make enough money to buy a team.
Coronavirus : im about to end this man whole career
We the spectators need the NFL. Something to cheer for since our personal lives sucks. A mans game, call it an emotional constructive HIGH. The NFL only going to richer and better.
@CNBC what font do you use for the graphics?
Can you do an NHL one
Jersey Joe yes please
It’s pretty much the same thing, just smaller numbers
Or maybe a video on why the NHL as a whole makes pennies versus every other North American league.
because no one will click on it, and it would be a waste of time for the narrator.
Right off the bat with the Vice/Vox vibe. Just tell the relevant stuff.
*TRIGGERED!*
David Duarte yyyyuuupppp...🙄
Trump needs to watch the video
The president didn't condemn the NFL. He condemned Colin Kaepernick.
Agreed, this is why big media sucks they just like to twist the news
I don’t understand why MetLife is paying 19 mill a year just to have its name on the stadium . I can’t see them making up the 19 mill just from a name on a stadium
Chris Schafer but how does the exposure of the stadium name make up the 19 mill?
@@chrisschafer9137 kind of like Wrigley Field in Chicago? Where despite the Wrigley Company not sponsoring the stadium name anymore, its exposure for when it did remains??
Thus the NYG and NYJ said youre paying for both our teams benefit of exposure
tax breaks
I heard the city of Las Vegas or the taxpayers paid $700M and half of it comes from the owner to build the Raiders/Allegiant Stadium. Crazy!
I love how they say “the president condemned the whole NFL” and play a clip where he only condemns colin kaepernick
0:06 why is the little bit about Trump needed? How does including Trump answer "How NFL Teams Make Money?"
darkheart1721 because it’s an obvious lead up to how even though the league is receiving tons of backlash, they’re still prospering.
NBC can’t go 2 minutes without criticizing Trump
Einar Zieske ikr
wanker
They should trump is a bad guy
Bobby "Massage" Kraft at the end of video speaking. 😂 😂
⚠️ *WARNING: These comments are going to be nasty.* ⚠️
Greg Caesar I dont see much nastiness. I am reasonably concluding that most people think the NFL hit its peak and is slowly dying.
Dirty Diapers.
5:15 that’s my team. Woot woot.
How is what President Trump said count as condemning the NFL? Honestly.. even you make football political
Technically he made it political when he started going after football player's non-violent protests
No kaepernick made it political. Protesting at someone else’s business is so professional. Grow up
@@todoldtrafford Kapernick is far from a proffesional individual. Somebody who relies on false pretences is somebody who doesn't belong in a professional sports league and is it any wonder that everybody was soo up in arms when Kapernick was fired by the NFL? The NFL is a private business that reserves the right to fire and hire who ever they want!
No tax because NFL is "Entertainment" ?
A 95 year old woman owns the Chicago Bears
I offered them double what they paid and they turned it down. Stupid old lady
inheritance is different than owning or purchasing. Chicago Bears are the Original Charter Franchise
She is George Halas's daughter & she is the majority owner of the team while other family members own a percentage of team too.
Ticket prices are ridiculous for NFL games.
I predict by 2035 the NFL will cease to exist due to CTE lawsuits. Any player who plays today will be affected.
i would rule out Prophet as an occupation pal
Marketing is everything!!
just about 2 seconds prior them mentioning revenue when the stadiums aren't used for football I was thinking about that. I just thought to myself I wonder if concerts are held when football isn't. I live in Oregon. We only have Blazers basketball. So I never know how other stadiums are used.7-2-19
Gotta throw trump in there. At least you're not obsessed with him CNBC.
New updated video needed please
Some teams need to relocate. St.Louis Lions?
Mr. Orange and Blue that’s not happening. There’s no stadium issue which is the #1 reason teams move. And guess what city is stingy about building a new stadium? Oh yeah St. Louis...
@@Dasanie not if the Lions want one to move.
Literally a new stadium with a pride of lions statue.
well they dont...
Best fit for st Louis is Steelers
Why are NFL teams worth so much? Because it's almost impossible to lose money owning an NFL team. Their profit ceiling is somewhat limited, but their floor is above zero. Think about it, the Lions are in one of America's poorest cities and constantly lose and yet even they manage to turn a profit.
Football is not going away any time soon. It will be around long after Trump is out of office.
And more importantly so will the 2 sports better than football MLB and NASCAR
@@rcracer8872NASCAR isn't a sport...
@My League its not boring at all football now that's a boring sport
NASCAR is extremely fast paced and exciting dont believe me just go check out the way todays race went especially the finish
Or the Darlington race in 03 or the Chicagoland race this past July
@My League also i want to add racing such as NASCAR you dont have any idea what to expect either with late race cautions wrecks photo finishes battles for the lead drivers beating and banging on each other drivers can run out of fuel on the last lap blown engines it is every bit as unpredictable as any other sport you need to get a clue
@My League NASCAR is the best sport in the world football and basketball are just a game
Thanks for the numbers. Very well done
Just saying these numbers are penny worth for the indian IPL
Teams owners
This was really informative
They don't make money off me anymore. I quit the NFL after they rigged Super Bowl 52.
you consider shad khan white?
Shad Khan is as brown as turd, he isn't white.
The NFL is like a hydra You killed one two will take your place

How exactly are the Bears worth 2.9 Bill when they could not even score 1 TD this past Thursday night?
I hope the NFL goes out of business...I'm glad they took the chargers out of San Diego..NFL sucks..
Lmao what’s wrong with you guys
They are providing entertainment and bettering the community... what’s wrong with that?
Well its here to stay deal with it
@@anishbhadani4723 bettering the community imao.....tax are raised in the city to build new stadium so billionnaire owner dont have to spend a thing, yet they keep everything they earn from their stadium,
NFL is amazing
Excellent video very informative
You should make a video about lacrosse
Its actually split 31 ways because jerry jones opted the cowboys out of that deal.
great piece! can you do one on the NBA and the MLB as well?
BEAUTIFUL EXPLAINER ANIMATIONS AND CONCISE $ breakdowns!
The nfl will keep making money. its not just about tv ratings
Yes it is
They need to do what soccer teams do. The most annoying part of nfl games are the constant commercials. I hate it so much that I record most of my games just to skip the commercials.
Nice journalism
robert kraft sounds like he just got a massage
Great video and very interesting take! Dallas Cowboys fee seems like chump change today haha
Damn If I win the lottery I will buy a nfl team
Interesting report, the Incomestatistik of the Franchises, and the Collegeplayernumber is decreasing since 10 Years.
Talk about franchise fee inflation from a $100 in 1920 to $700 million in 2002 for a franchise fee that is a high barrier to entry.
Everyone loves to lead with blaming Trump but the players have actually shot themselves in the foot. Whining about concussions to claim victimization when they are to blame for the hits. Now the league is losing millions.
Can you please make a video on EPL & IPL
Weird ending, ended abruptly
Fascinating - yet you forgot the tax breaks that pro sports teams receive. Each team can depreciate their players in the same way that a corporation can depreciate company equipment. Like how a farmer can depreciate a tractor, or a construction company can depreciate bulldozers. Each NFL player's salary is depreciated over a 5 year period with the IRS - so at the end of 5 years - the NFL owner gets a 100% write-off on a player's salary if the player signs a 5 year contract.
Just like MLB... Teach young minds a sport that most don't have an opportunity to play as an adult so they end up watching it on television. Pretty simple actually.
This doesn’t even factor in betting
Trump didn't condemn the NFL but players Like Koepernick, and many fans followed him, hence the dip in ratings. But it's a NBC video...
Yea NBC blows.
You guys should do the NBA next.
Way to go: you avoiding mentioning the detrimental effect that greedy owners constantly moving their teams is having on regional markets, not to mention the millions of dollars they get in public money for their stadiums. But as a reporter, I guess you have to strike a balance between relaying the truth and continued access eh?
Do one for nba
It doesn’t make much sense to watch sports on replay or a day or a week later. Sports you watch live.
That’s why TV ratings stay up high when many TV shows are struggling and they have to go on Netflix
Informative. Thank you
Nfl will never die
