From my farm to your home. 🏡
My name is Kaleb Wyse and here, you will find delicious recipes, videos from my farm, garden, and fun home projects. My knowledge has been earned from years of home cooks and farmers in my family. wyseguide.com
A farm is much more than a house to live in; it’s a lifestyle. My passion for gardening and landscaping came from outdoor work with my mom in our expansive farm yard, my love for baking came from innumerable short walks to my grandma’s house to make cookies, and as a farmer, my dad taught me that we are the stewards of our land.
So whether you live in a city center or have decided rural life is for you, I hope to inspire you with the projects and recipes I use in daily life. We can’t all live on a farm, but we all need farms in our lives. From the dirt in my vegetable garden to the flour in my kitchen, I’ll show you everything I love to do.

If you want to be really organic and eradicate those Japanese Beetles forever, get yourself a couple of ducks. They will eat the larvae, like they are candy, as well as other nasty bugs, won't hurt your plants, or flowerbeds, and are super fun to watch. Just a kiddie pool and a predator safe sleeping area, and they are very low maintenance. Not to mention the eggs, yum!

I also saw some type of bags, people hang them around the garden (they are secreting some type of hormone or something that attracts Japanese beetles) and after they get filled up they feed them to chickens!

I think ducks would be an excellent solution to the Japanese beetle problem! They would gobble up those bugs like nobody’s business! And their droppings would fertilize your garden!
Kaleb, what’s become of the cat that you owned? I haven’t seen her walking about your garden?

Kaleb: Thank you, for your garden tour, and with land recently cleared out I am always looking for new ideas and what to plant in the garden. You are a great vegetable gardener, and your cabbage looks beautiful! Your limelight hydrangeas are gorgeous and like the idea of how you think about new and interesting finds at flea markets and like your newly painted green bench. You put a smaller & lovely bench in your garden and have made a cornerstone garden come alive. Your fountain that you see from the kitchen is a fun idea. A great aspect of gardening is we can always keep dreaming and with enough land to work on our projects are never completed! Your containers are all exceptionally designed and like the way your porch is decorated with so many plants! Is that a white bird of paradise in the background? Your lawn looks lush & beautiful. Had mine aerated so is looking good but will put a weed & feed down in the fall. Right now, wiping out weeds in the driveway & will have new gravel put down w>Nellis Landscaping. Thanks for sharing all of your many gardening ideas & ENJOY!

I’m with you on this and keep a take-out soup container of soapy water in my garden all summer. When I see one, in it goes. I’ve noticed that after following this method for four or five years I have less and less Japanese beetles in my garden. If you keep on top of them they don’t have a chance to breed and lay eggs, disrupting their reproductive cycle. FYI, never ever use the traps as they attract many more beetles to your garden and you pay the price for years to come. I know from past experience. Evil beetles!

Iowan here too. I've noticed they like sweet potato vine and it draws them in so I quit growing that in my flower bed. Haven't seen any this yr except for a green looking one I plucked off. Earwigs are a huge problem this year because of all the rain we've had. Ants are a pain too.

my mom always put Palmolive detergent in a sprayer that is attached to a water hose. The bugs hated the taste and left the plants/fruit/vegetables alone. If it rained, the garden would suds up and she would respray after the plants dried off. Worked really well and to this day I follow her lead.
