  • Glaucoma is an eye condition that can lead to blindness due to increased pressure within the eye. There are two major types of glaucoma: open-angle and angle-closure. This animation goes over the eye anatomy of what happens with both types of glaucoma. Also, a brief explanation of how a tonometer measures eye pressure is shown at the end.
Glaucoma is of particular concern in the ENT world with any type of facial fracture involving the eye (can cause traumatic glaucoma).
Produced by Dr. Chang who does not evaluate for glaucoma, but refers patients to ophthalmology if there is glaucoma concern. This animation produced for educational purposes only.

    My father has this.
After the surgery the pressure is still higher than normal.
So he's now taking a different drop a few times a day.
He gets a checkup today so hopefully the pressure subsides

I have glaucoma in both my eyes and I have to take 4 eye drops four times a day to lower my pressures. So far my eye drops are working and my glaucoma is not progressing right now. I do have to see my glaucoma specialist every 4 months to be monitored. Glaucoma has damaged my optic nerve in my left eye with severe cupping but my right eye is not as bad.

No don’t do that you will lose your vision also it’s important to take it exactly on time and not a minute late. My dad takes both the eye drop and a laser every month bc he is doing bad now and he took all his drops on time

Between 10 and 22. But it's always advised to check up regularly, and if possible take a 3 point measurement. So that means 3 times on the same day at morning, afternoon and evening. The progression is also important, so let's say for example you start the day at 10, and end it at 22, in the snapshot moment that seems like a normal pressure reading, but it's still a big build upwards.
