Ramelle, you are awesome! It put a smile on my face seeing you walk up with the coffee, not only is that sort of thing so very much appreciated on a cold day, it just goes to show what a wonderful person you are. I'm not a builder but I am a service contractor who works outside and I love when my customers offer up fresh hot coffee on a bitter cold day. The guys are lucky to have you around!

Thanks for the compliment @someOne8. However I am just the fetcher/ derivery - as Jaime would say- person. I have to give credit was credit is due as some gift certificates were purchased at Cardinal Coffee by UA-cam subscribers. Perkins Builder Bros and crew really appreciate the CC gifts. These Guys are doing such an awesome job on my house that I feel compelled to treat them well by fetching that coffee or making them homemade goodies! They deserve the best.

I love your videos and learn a lot from them. I just wanted to throw this piece of information on the inline circular saw. It's an inline because the motor and the blade are in line with each other. This is made possible with the introduction of brushless motors into power tools because the motors can be much thinner front to back as opposed to an old can shape or can. If you look at one of your other circular saws that big chunk that sticks out to one side or the other is the motor and that makes it hard to see the blade from a particular side of the saw blade right blade left being the result. Your new inline saw allows you to see the blade from either making it a great saw for multiple users righties and lefties.

Been watching since the beginning, it's hard to believe a crew can get along so well and do a better than good enough job too. I appreciate watching the detail in getting things to fit right, not every contractor does. I spent a few years in my 20's building commercial projects. Now retired 11 years from aircraft maintenance and computer IT work, I'll be 70 in a month and spend my days in the garage full of tools building what ever comes to mind. Toys for the grand kids, toys for my self, furniture new or repairing. Have helped on several home remodel projects. Have learned a lot of tricks from you show. Keep it up.

If you aren't familiar with it, check out Tru Exterior products. Their window trim comes pre-rabbeted to fit flush over nailing flanges. The material cuts like wood and is moisture, rot and insect resistant. AAC Building Materials in Asheville, NC, carries it. Nice flashing detail on the deck!

So you have cut notches at the end of each deck joist to fit and insert end of flashing there @ 11:46 , very good trick! now water has very nice path to reach endgrain of each joist and stay there . Deck structure will rot waaay too faster. Well done! Totally defeats purpose of flashing , lol

  • @michaelmiller5177
    @michaelmiller5177 6 місяців тому

For your rabbets, if you know they are all going to get the same rabbet, you can make the height cut first on all your boards. Put a saw blade on the table and lower your blade to the height of the second blade on the table, adjust your fence back, and cut all of your boards to free the waste. You have to be certain about the number of boards you need because adjusting the height and the blade over and over will lead to errors. Might save your finger tips and some time.

Here's a tip from an ex Infantry guy. If you wear panty hose, it keeps you warmer than you'd think it would . Yes they make thermal underwear but it can get bulky and it weighs you down. I'm told it keeps the leaches off too, but I think that's a myth/wishful thinking. But it does help you stay warm w/o the bulk.

@@danglin69 Thing about being down range is that weight is everything. You have to hump it all day, all night. So there's a saying we use. Pack light, freeze at night. It's better to freeze your ass off since your downtime is pretty short. And it's not worth carrying the extra bulk. I remember a buddy of mine had a pretty high speed burner. Everyone that walked by asked "Hey, how heavy is that?" Not how much, not where'd you buy it but "let me hold it to see how heavy it is"

I like those Geko Gauges. I replaced my house siding using LP Smartside and those by myself. I am starting a new house build now and like the tip from awesome framers. They use them more for support and not for spacing. They then use a story pole and chalk line first. Looks to go much faster. That is something I noticed using them for spacing I was always rechecking to make sure they didn't slip and it wastes a lot of time.

Just adding my two cents...your elbow tendonitis or tennis elbow can be taken care of pretty easily by putting rubber bands or expand-your-hand bands by iron mind and opening your fingers up. That pain is from your flexor muscles being stronger than your extensor muscles in your forearm. Strengthen those muscles and the pain will go away.

In regard to Jamie’s injury.. Put some type of lubricant like coconut oil where the injury is to protect the skin and scrape it with something solid and flat like the back of a knife.. Scrape it until it turns red once or twice a day.. these things take a long time to heal because it’s a low blood flow area, so this practice promotes blood flow and speeds recovery. I cured my tennis elbow in a couple of weeks in this way. Hope that helps. 😉✌🏼

When rabbiting the back out on the table saw, run it through both ways and take a little more than you need both ways because it all gets covered by the siding. I will make marks on the table saw for each rabbit where the fence goes and eyeball the depth for the other. Pro tip.

Great going, but I want to see how the corrugated sheet is going to fit, I am genuinely intrigued. Who replaced Jay's batteries, he is still going strong 😂. I really hope you get inside soon, I've worked on roof trusses in the cold and I had to wear my wife's tights until I got some thermal underwear, that was a blessing. Good post, take care and be safe guy's 🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨

Perkins bros, we do the same treatment with the LP 5/4 trim, but we make two passes; one vertical and one horizontal. Since we use Simpson wafer-head screws to secure the window flange, I rabbet the trim about 3/16”. Great work, guys! ~WilPaul Construction

Injections in the elbow, first-hand experience. The first shot is a miracle, the second shot is relief, the third shot does nothing, and the fourth shot really hurts a lot. That is when I got the bone chip that was pressing against my funny-bone nerve and the tendon put somewhere else. Did you recently fall hard on your right elbow?

I actually prefer to overdrive the nails and then comeback and fill them with caulk. They completely disappear and in my opinion it looks cleaner.

Since the plate on most saws is 1-1/2”, just run the saw plate against the house and it notches the joists perfectly (and quickly) for that flashing

I have only one complaint, these videos are never long enough. I would enjoy film length, 2 hour videos of the guys, better than watching a feature film.

So rather than use the template you made to close the 10" gap you put the seam at shoulder level where any imperfection could be seen? I am guessing you noticed that 2 pieces was 10" to short after you cut one of the full length pieces.

When you run the trim over the tables saw and it leave that thin piece on the trim, I just run along the back with my utility knife and got a nice clean cut and smooth edge on the back rabbit.

So crazy! I just had to do metal corrugated siding like this and trim around the window… I had to get the J channel custom made from a metal shop. Nightmare to match colours!
