I was dying, and doktors told me to go home and get my affairs in order. I was 40 and couldn't gain weight due to a mitochondrial disorder. I went to a Naturopathic doctor and he saved my life. Throw out the microwave, eat as much organic raw food as possible, no chemicals or preservatives, drink lots of purified water. It worked.

This should be tought in every school. We should be tought how we should be connected to the food what we eat. If the governments would care about our health only whole foods would be on the shops' shelves. if there is an aisle in every store called " health foods" then what is the rest of the store?

I'm a Certified Holistic Health Coach and I know the power of food from first hand experience. My first client was a stage 4 glioblastoma patient who was told she would die in less than a year. Not only did the lifestyle and nutritional changes keep her well but the doctors had no explanation as to why after year one she had no signs of disease. I worked with her for 3 years and gave her the tools she needed to thrive for many more. I'm also a certified yoga teacher, Reiki practitioner, reflexologist, and active aging specialist. I have seen many miracles in my practice, none of which involved pharmaceuticals.

That is truly wonderful! I lost my darling 41 yr old daughter to glioblastoma 7 yrs ago, and would have given anything to have had this knowledge and been able to help her using nutritional changes. She lived 19 months from diagnosis. Last year, my husband lost his 67 yr old cousin to same thing after only 8 months. She was a nurse and researched every treatment available, but nutrition was never considered. God bless you❤️

I am a living proof that food is the best medicine ever. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis more than 20 years ago, at the age of 28, with a toddler at home. After wanting to die, I decided to do everything to be able to live a life as 'normal' as possible. I took all sorts of medicines, went into protocols, was even a guinea pig... until some 15 years later, being near to have liver cirrhosis. What helped me was my son's reaction, telling he would give me part of his liver ! I stopped eating gluten AND dairy of any kind, reduced sharply sugar and increased vegetables and here I am, more than in remission, without pain or so little and most of all, I stopped the cancer pills I had been taking for so long !

I have been healthier than iv ever been in my life and at nearly 69 i can enjoy my life with no health issues. When a young girl i was physically very active and never over ate. As soon as i became a young wife and mum at the very young age of 17 my diet changed and not for the better, as i became hooked on over processed rubbish. Over the years i gained weight and started to get all sorts of health issues such as Asthma, IBS and many infections. I became vegan for ethical reasons when i read and saw the truth of the farming and food industries when i was in my fifties and have enjoyed good health since. We are what we eat, and like the very old saying goes let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food. When we educate ourselves and know better, we can be and feel better.

Me too. I went on disability for a rare anxiety disorder at age 42. I refused to live by what they told me. Threw out all the meds and fought the illness. I was told that at my age (70), I would basically be nonfuctioning or dead. Instead I am healthy. The last two years we started fasting one day a week and eating raw two days a week. What amazed me was how my moods stablized like they never had before. I was furious with all the therapy, doctors etc. no one told me just changing those few things would help me so much.

For myself, i had no choice when what i ate changed completley. I was injured and had no income for 3 months.spent a whole winter eating rice, eggs, onions,
Many days id have only one meal a day, no snacks, tea and coffee to drink.
I noticed suprisingly i was feeling healthier and more energetic with less and more basic food.
So i started to add to that by buying beans, dry peas and lentils, Sesame seeds and blueberries, Sprouting for my fresh food, beans replacing most of my previous meat.
Its obvious to me hownthe different foods help!!!
Now i just eat this way and wouldnt go back to my old ways of eating.
Plus this way is very affordable for such healthy food.

This documentary should be part of all educational programs in schools, all over the world. Kids need to be taught how to live healthy and happily from the youngest age possible. It is easier to start your life with the best habbits than start changing them when older en sicker. In addition, an equal amount of emphasis should be put on the emotional support and influence as well as the stress reduction when making those lifestyle changes. Community is so much more important than we think. There are plenty of researched articles about the amazing effects of feeling part of a community that is supportive and it's affect on longevity and quality of health. The last thing I would also like to add is the spiritual aspect of the human health. People need purpose, meaning and direction to be healthy. It is important for us humans to connect to our spirituality, our reason for being in this life, to discover our purpose and act on that purpose in order to feel fullfilled and happy. It will give us the drive and motivation to adapt those lifestyle changes as a permanent way of living as people will understand how important it is to be loving and nurturing towards themselves and that all else is just a means of self sabotaging their own health.

Many people here have gone Carnivore, Keto and meat heavy also known as Ketovore is a really great way to get a little veg but more meat into our bodies for complete proteins/nutrition. I'm a living example! I am Ketovore and my health and bloodwork has never been better in my life!

Being completely pain free I started to take it for granted and the slippery slope of bad eating increased. Endo pain came roaring back. A colleague with recurring urinary tract infections also went to the same clinic and after years of being on and off antibiotics had complete relief just through changing her diet. Give it a try - nothing to lose and so much to gain.

Thanks for sharing! I resonate with your friend’s issue! I’ve done thorough research on how to naturally heal my uti (which I was told is from the bacteria Streptococcus agalactiae). Initially, I took a prescribed antibiotic but it had no affect at all whatsoever! They tried to prescribe me something stronger, but when I looked into it, there were immense negative side effects, even someone dying! I changed the way that I was eating but the symptoms got worse because the bacteria fed off of water and nutrition (like humans do), so I was intuitively led to go on a dry fast, which is when you starve your cells and they eat the dead cells, which also contains water (endogenous)! I can tell the progression since going on my fast, and once it’s over on Sunday, I will start back on my raw Whole Foods plant based diet!

I too did not receive healthcare. As result in my younger years, I have felt extremely detached from the healthcare system and lack of trust of its ability to care for people, especially poor people. Luckily, I had a knack interest in health and ate healthy. But I would like to say, as we need healthy teachers people who represent the community and teach how to live healthy. Because certainly we cannot rely on our schools and our healthcare systems to teach us to do the same teacher. Meaning teach us our children how to be and live and eat healthy. Instead, they want to teach us to eat and live affordably, and it turns out the affordable system is the sickest system that could ever have been created. And on top of that, the healthcare system won’t take care of it. No, it’s time now. It’s time for us to learn how to be healthy and we can do it. Eat from the Earth it’s real simple gardens know your farmers. It is not complicated.

I said no and walked out. I found Carnivore a few years ago, and within a couple months I was off my blood pressure medication, my ADHD was better, no more joint pain, no more burning skin, no more muscle issues, no more sleep apnea, etc. After a year I lost about 50 pounds. You're absolutely right that it is poison and needs to be cut out, but there is a reason people keep turning back to those poisons; they help people get through the misery of each day. When I ate super clean and exercised daily, the misery of living didn't go away, I just no longer had any way to ease it a bit. I enjoyed watching this movie and I was familiar with Dr. Wahls amazing story.
However, I have to say that I felt that only half the story was being told. It's not just what you eat, it's also how often you should eat. There was no mention about fasting, intermittent fasting and the benefits...such as autophagy. It doesn't explain the insulin story which could be why the participants in the film were having trouble staying on their new diets. It also seemed to promote fruits, which are high in fructose and inflammatory.
I thought for sure Dr. Jason Fung would be contributing to explain.
I'm 58. I've lost 115lbs so far since November by following Dr Fung, reading his books (The Obesity Code) , eating a low carb high fat diet and intermittent fasting. I'm off my blood pressure meds, my osteoarthritis pain is so much better I'm able to be active again and swimming and my asthma is gone.
The film gave me the impression it was just all about will power and eating well. It's not. Dr Fung could have explained why.

    • @margochanning6868
      @margochanning6868 3 роки тому +17

So, in other words, you were overeating and you are not overeating any more. Are you still obese? If you think fasting has nothing to do with will power, you are wrong. The reason intermittent fasting works is because it helps to prevent you from overeating. I lost 100 pounds without fasting and I have kept that weight off for the last 4 years. I eat fruit. I take NO prescription drugs and have NO chronic illnesses or diseases. I am 64. I am 5'4" and I weigh 115 pounds. You are eating a restrictive diet that includes restricting carbohydrates. I eat a diet that only includes restricting calories. I only eat enough calories as I burn per day. I eat a healthy mix of all 3 macronutrients. We need all 3 macronutrients. Stop demonizing or glorifying particular macronutrients. The REAL PROBLEM is that we make poor food choices - junk food processed food - and we OVEREAT. Our bodies' organs were NOT made to process such huge quantities of junk food. Intermittent fasting is a mind trick to get overeaters to stop eating so much. And restrictive diets like keto are a trick to make you focus more on your food choices. All restrictive diets are all about the magic pill magic formula mentality - from vegan to carnivore. The scientific reality is that calories (a measure of energy) consumed have to be less than calories burned in order to lose body fat. Bonus scientific fact. Fat has 9 calories per gram. Carbohydrate is around 4 calories per gram. Protein is around 4 calories per gram.

    • @JohnsonNestorFamily
      @JohnsonNestorFamily 3 роки тому +30

@@margochanning6868 I really think you would enjoy reading The Obesity Code. And also The Cancer Code.
Calories in vs calories out just doesn't work for MOST people for the long haul. You are an exception ☺️. If it did, we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic like we do now because that is what we've been told to do for the past 20-30 years. It's what I was told..... time and time again. And I would lose weight, and gain it back. I would often say " Losing weight is easy! I've done it hundreds of times." Ever wonder why the TV show The biggest loser doesn't have reunion shows?
The language of the body is hormones, not calories. The body doesn't know what a calorie is. Hormones react to what we eat. When your insulin is low (not eating or fasting) your body switches to using stored food (body fat) for energy. It can only do this when insulin is low. Once it learns to use body fat for energy and learns to feed itself, the hunger goes away. This is why I don't get hungry during my 48hr. fasts.
The hunger hormones are very powerful. You can't just decide not to be hungry. Natural fats trigger satiety hormones and don't raise insulin.
Fasting allows your body to feed itself from body fat. It's what it's supposed to do and perfectly natural. It's also not a new fad or trick. People have been fasting since the beginning of time. All religions have required it for their followers. They called it cleansing (autophagy).
More and more they are finding benefits of fasting... even if you don't need to lose weight (Cancer prevention, Alzheimer's prevention etc.). Interesting stuff! I think you would appreciate the information in his books and lectures. I wish I would have learned this year's ago. No wonder I struggled most of my life. I get it now. I've paraphrased a lot of what I remember from Dr. Fung's videos and books.... and other doctors I follow. My life has been changed forever ❤️

Happy that you have found your way to thrive with good health. However, over my extensive reading of people's stories in the last few years I realise that nobody can say "my way is the best". We need to say "this way keeps me healthy." One thing looks pretty certain for good health for all - drop processed foods. After that, individuals can have issues with dairy, eggs, various plants, seeds, nuts, meat. Some people just need to eat meat to do well - not even necessarily all types of meat. Others are fine with all types of natural products (this is me - but I keep carbs low to avoid diabetes). Others are best only with plants - with or without eggs/dairy (although supplements can be vital). I just can't deny all those anecdotes from people saying "I am feeling so good, in such good health, now that I am doing X" Please have an open mind!

I have had the pleasure of treating 3 patients with MS. The first patient I had with MS was when I was in school. I remember this so clearly, when I got her to add 1 leafy green to her diet each day she improved by leaps and bounds, she was so happy and didn't believe how good she felt. It was so awesome that 1 change helped her so much. As we worked together and changed her diet and started her on some supplements, she started walking again and in about 3 months she was able to stop your medications.

The residents often took brown bag lunches & sat by Siene river banks or in parks & drank wine & had fatty food (not junk food) the restaurants were for tourists they often told me. & seldom were at fast food. Also growing up in 60 & 70’s there was very little eating out except for special occasions & snacks were seldom allowed, and often missed meals & were active & busy.

You try to find other ways to disengage from emotional eating.
Some new eating benefits work relatively quickly (days to weeks), while some take months to heal and some even years. But eventually you’ll heal.

I have remitting relapsing MS. I was on the Wahls protocol for 3.5 years and have switched to a Whole Foods plant based diet after that. I used to get numb fingers and a numb forearm frequently. I also used to bite my tongue all the time, since I was loosing control of my jar movements. Ever since I changed to the Wahls paleo plus protocol, those symptoms went away. I also have not had any relapse in 6 years.
I do take medication, but taking medication did not have any impact on my symptoms. They are meant to delay relapses.
The body is able to repair some of the damages of MS.
One thing that I want to point out is that we are all different and some of our diet approaches need to be fine tuned for our needs.
For me, being dairy free is important. I can tolerate beans if they have been pressure cooked for 30 minutes. I started baking my own bread, using mainly spelt flour. Eating a variety of vegetables is important no matter if you choose a paleo or vegan approach.
You may have different needs, but it is likely that there is a diet that can help you to at least manage your condition better if not even improve your condition. Give it a try! (Keep going to the doctor though!)

I can speak to my own experience, that I used to get random bouts of hives that we could not explain through record keeping or allergy tests. Once I left home I had the option to stop eating meat, and a couple of years passed as a vegetarian before I realized that I hadn't experienced another flare-up since. I still haven't-- I won't go back to eating meat now that I know I don't /have/ to go weeks at a time with horrible rashes! But I can't exactly prescribe that everyone do the same thing for all cases; maybe that's not a tenable strategy for someone with severe legume allergies. Every body's different!

The important thing is that you are now finding the right way to live a better life,
Organize the mess that has become your life slowly,
One day at a time, and you'll get where you want to go,
      I believe it's health
Work with the positives of the things that happened in your life, even if they are negative things, but believe me they are never just negative,
We can learn from mistakes, voluntary and involuntary, but in this world we are conditioned to see only the negative side,
Information is all or nothing, and disinformation is even worse,
Surely we've been fed all our lives wrongly,
But our body is potent to self-regenerate and achieve much more in much less time,
I'm changing my life little by little, my story is not very interesting,
But today I am sure that my mission on earth is to help people better understand what our mission on earth is,
*Make this place a little better than we found it*
Wherever your best is, even if you don't know what your best is,
But know, Every step of yours on this earth is a story to be told by you, do your best, even if it all seems very bad,
Rest assured, health and food go hand in hand

Instead of allowing the client to feel their feelings, dive into them, and then come up with their own reasons for change, the clinician acts as an expert who knows the right answer. We learn day 1 in Social Work that this kind of approach doesn’t work. Amazing that many clinicians do it.

Also making your own bone broth maybe an option for another protein and collagen option. 1 tbsp Apple cider vinegar with the mother diulted in 8 oz of water helps with heart burn. There is the clean 15 list that has veggies with the least amount of pesticides that doesn't need to be organic as much.

Find a family own store and offer to buy what they are about to get rid of , most often stores throw out food that is actually still good . Beans are a great way to stretch your money and tasty .

Great presentation, I applaud the makers of this movie and especially the participants, It takes courage to put your life out in the public sphere to be scrutinized by other people. I wish them all success on their journeys. The underlying theme of this presentation clearly advocates for the paleo diet. This is not an issue as a natural whole foods paleo diet is head and shoulders above the standard American food triangle. Eating this way after eating highly processed foods will clearly make you healthier. My only criticism is that in a 1:24 minute video about food as medicine they don't even talk about sugar until the 1:16 minute mark. That and the veiled demonization of fat that was eluded to in a few of the presenters comments.

  • @onyx368
    @onyx368 3 роки тому +162

Great movie, great message. But they confused one thing, FAT. It is not our enemy, it doesn't spike insulin and it promotes satiety. Sugars & carb dense foods, processed anything, certain fruits are all contributors to calorically dense, unhealthy triggers. In today's world, one has to navigate, investigate and advocate for their health. Conventional doctors will be trigger happy to write you that script to take away the causes but never do the deep dive into the symptoms.
Create your own meals with organic produce and clean ingredients, grass-fed meats and eggs, wild caught fish and plenty of water. 8 hrs of full sleep and mindful exercise. See in a Century😉

I have RA (30 years diagnosed at 19), endometriosis, and IBS-C. I am not on any medications and never have been. I work out daily and try to eat the best I can. Cutting out gluten helped with the RA. My main problem is eating 'healthy' with IBS. Its not as easy as eating natural foods, or plant based. MANY foods make me sick, nearly all fruits, even the safe low fodmap fruits make me ill as well as many vegetables. Im doing all I can. I do not eat poorly.
Ive never had alcohol or smoked but I still need help getting enough nutrients because my body rejects good food too. Having said that, Im nearly 48 and I have some pain but I have no limits. So I see that as a victory at the end of the day. No Gluten, low sugar, low stress, mostly no ultra processed, exercise, and attitude all help.
Again-attitude is important. If you believe you cant, you can be certain of it.

The emphasis in this movie is strongly focused on food which is just a part of healing. We may not forget the power of fasting and meditation as a more holistic approach to healing. Stress does not only come from eating bad food but I admit it's a huge factor. The world inside and outside they are intimately connected. We still live in an environment where a huge pressure is imposed on people which is a huge contributor of stress which is harmful for our health. Before we can eat healthy we first have to think about producing food organically and creating a clean non pollutive environment. The most important food comes from the kind of air we breathe. The environment we live in. This has to be the focus before being able to produce food that is healthy..
