I took off my D string&moved my G up one&pulled off the frets with a penknife, smoothed it out... Using my A as that heavy drone & my G string as my music maker...I've never been as happy I just can't get enough of that Arabic/Celtic/Indian feeling...some of the guys that I know on Bass guitar groups I'm involved in were going ballistic that I was "Sabotaging" a Fender electro/acoustic bass...I needed a new improved fretless guitar to go to work on but couldn't afford it(wasn't prepared to continue being ripped off by the guitar makers) so I built my own...Fuck the dafties with their snide comments my bass brother... Where's their contributions to the world of bass playing?!!!...Do wot u do and keep on rockin...You Rock!...
neither harmonic nor melodic. if you wanted to describe it with western theory you could call it a natural minor with a flat second and a raised third but that's not very elegant.

alternatively it has been described in modal terms as phrygian dominant
