Making a Five String Fretless Bass - Custom Neck Thru
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 чер 2021
- This bass will be shipped to a customer in a few days time so we have a few more days to play with it :D. Body is our spring bass design and the head is something new. Neck is made from wenge wood with white oak veneer. Body is American walnut and white oak combination. Finger board is made from black ebony and oak veneer strip. Markings and bass clef are milled and filled with white epoxy. Nut is made from whitened bone. Glue we used for neck thru block is "Patex" pvac and "titebond" for fingerboard. For the finish on this one, we used few coats of "timberguard" teak oil and bees wax. For the first time we used our new laser engraver and we love it! Hardware that we used in this build is: Schaller Bass BM tuners, 3D-5 bridge, S-locks strap buttons. D'Addario ETW92-5 strings. for electronics we used Fishman fluence 5-string Bass soapbar pickups combined with Schaller under bridge piezzo with Fishman powerchip preamp. Total weight of this bass is 4.2kg. It was a fun new build with a more natural wibe. Special thanks to Luka Kovač, Nikola Radovanić, Mitja Kać, Ivan Tibor Grujić and Luka Tomić for letting me use one of their songs for this video! Links to their social media will be added soon (they have to make it first ;).Also thanks to Krešimir Klen Fish for playing at the end of the video! :) I hope you like this project as much as I do! :D

WOW! What a Magnificent Specimen of an Instrument. Both Gorgeous and a Piece of Fine Art. Your choice of Pick-Ups and Electronics is Excellent as well. Finally being a Fretless is Very Special. I've played Bass for over 40 years and music for over 50 years, and I would Love to play that Fine Bass for Many Hours and Days. 🎶 💓
love the music, there’s touch of javanism (indonesia) in those note...
Stunning instrument and beautifully crafted. Love the bass clef inlay💓
Amazing as always, I've rarely seen such unique and beautifully crafted guitars!
Thank you very much!:) So glad you like them!
Who ever invented tabbed browsing should be remembered for all time. Got 20 of these open watching guitars and bass' being built.
Got me looking into learning wanting to learn how to play the bass. Fell into this rabbit hole from another hole of Pawn Stars videos of people selling guitars.
You guys are incredible artists of wood. That bass looked beautiful and sounded really great, too. Excellent job, as always.
Thank you so much 😀 I'm quite happy how it tuned out!
These guys are top notch, crafting, editing, music choice, timing... Now I got my dose of ASMR.. going to sleep and dream about owning one of these beauties
this is one of the most instantly magnetic instruments I've ever seen
Could you please make a longer video of someone playing this bass using the different pickups? What I would REALLY like is a video of each of your instruments so we can hear them
Sik!!! And what a beautiful headstock!!!
This music is on point too!!!👍
Again that headstock tho!! It’s like a updated stingray headstock!!😍😍
Thank you very much Jeremy! :)
@@lignumchannel absolutely!! Thank you for sharing this build with us!!

Truly a work of art.
That was very cool to watch.
I love all of your guitars. They must sell for a fortune. Amazing as always.
Thank you so much Tony!:)
Great work! As always! Love the design of this one!
Glad you like it Simon!
@@lignumchannel how are you programming your kuka? Kukacnc? Grasshopper? Always fascinating to watch!
Scrumptious bass. If I knew how to play I"d love to own one of those.
Stunning work
Thank you Tom!
Best one yet. Bravo.
:)Glad you notice the progress! Thank you Michael!
That's the best looking bass you've made so far. Great work. I'm looking forward to the next one but it will have to be something seriously special to top this one. 👍
Thank you! Glad you like it! Yeah, i'm afraid of the day I ran out of ideas..
@@lignumchannel I can't see that happening any time soon.👍
just beautiful
Fascinating to watch. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching!😁
That was Awesome to watch ⌚
Everything for art with love !!! Greetings from Romania !!!
:)Greetings from Croatia!
Watching, (and greetings) from Liberty, Kentucky. USA.
It’s like an even sexier MM bongo! Adore it.
Beautiful.
Thank you!
Your Bass is always "Like"!!!
Thank you😁
Damn, when will I be able to afford something like this :( What a beauty!
Svaka vam čast.
Savršena bas gitara.
Hvala Petre!:)
During lockdown, I built a neck-through fretless. I too used a Schaller 3D bridge (and tuners), and I too used Fishman Fluence pickups but only trebble and bass EQ due to costs. I think yours looks a bit better than mine though tbh.
such a really beatifull, so much....
That would have been so unsatisfying without hearing the bad at the end, but, as always, you delivered. Great video. Keep filling the world with music and beautiful things like our Creator.
I was wondering when you were going to use a laser to engrave your logo. I love this neck through body bass build. Your videos are awesome.
ooh i like this one!
As always, thank you very much Ellie! :D
Beautifull
Thank you!
Those robot arms are amazing.
I do love them :)
Awesome.
Thanks!:D
Prelijepo! 👏
Hvala!:)
I want one!
Hi guys, your instruments are truly outstanding but I urge you to find asap a (very) good bass player to let us hear how these beauties really sound. And let him/her play for more than few seconds at the end of the video: make some videos just showing "basses in action" 😉 Hvala
Remco's Groove Lab would be a perfect tester for this.
The music playing in the bg of the whole video is also made using the instrument
@@reymondfelizardo2212 really? I'm hoping for Tony Levin :)
Do you always leave the tape over the truss rod? In another (less professional) build video I saw the luthier put a maple plug over the truss rod. He was doing an epoxy fingerboard but it got me wondering.
a bass that a i can brbr deng all day
Great video!
Which bass strings are you using?
Sounds as good as lt looks👌
Thank you Robert! Glad you also like this one! 😁
damn so wondeful i wish i have that
Awesome! What laserengraver do you use?
u r a master
Thank you! :)
Fantastic work! What strings were on the bass? They really bring out the wide tonal palette of the Fishman pickups.
D'Addario ETB92-5 ;)
I use the ETB92 4-strings variant on my main Bass and that's the best "upgrade" by far !
Just wondering how much did each of those kuka robots cost with all of the routing stuff included?
That's not good work, that's excellent work
Can you please tell me what the type of or name of the machine you use when doing the automated carving? I thought it was a CNC machine - and it may be - but I've never seen a CNC that looked like that. Any info you can provide and I would be most grateful. Cheers ~
When you use a long end mill like at 3:30 do you get any noticeable amount of deflection from the end mill or the robot?
It depends mostly on milling speed, it gets noticable at speeds of 100mm per second and more. The whole arm gets a little bit bent because it is not as rigid as clasic portal cnc. Happens with any length but more with longer bits.. slow is the way to go😁
Beautiful bass 👍👍👍👍👍. Guitar Center will buy it from you for $400 ... I'm not kidding.
This came out so gorgeous!! Anybody have any idea what white fluid/glue was used to make those fret lines? Also, anybody know what kind of syringe they used? Thank you!
the description says white epoxy
Simply perfect.
What product do you use for finishing?
on this build we used Le Tonkinois Marine Nº1 Linseed Oil Varnish
Thank you Fred! As for the finish, like my bro said😁
👍
Hard to find D'Addario ETW92-5 strings.
Never clicked this fast!
Same!
Congratulations! :), First!

5:59 brush in hand, still spreading glue with finger. That's exactly what I would do.
Yeah it happens every time.😁
Skoro pa bu ukulele i četri žice. Jel' tak sused?
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!!!
Glad you like it! :D
Is something like this for sale?

I'm looking to get a 7 STRING fretless made asap. Are y'all in the business of taking orders? F#BEADGC, 35" scale, piezo, humbuckers, 18 volts or dealers choice on the specs.
Hey =) We are taking order, and we would be more then happy to make 7 string fretless. Fell free to contact us via email info@lignum-art.com and we can discuss all of the details.
@@gustavgabrek3047 Damn, Never got notification from UA-cam, I stumbled upon this but accident again. Will have to keep you guys in mind for my next instrument.
#GGBO2021 😄
My bro and I are planing a model for it.. :D
@@lignumchannel Your brother Gustav? 😄
Looking forward to see it!
@@lignumchannel Any plans for 2022? 🤓
at 5:36, what are those pins for?
They keep the fingerboard from slipping out of perfect position while clamping.
I must admit that the orientation of the bass clef confuses me, as there’s a lower string above it and three higher strings below it.
it's positioned where it would be if it were on a musical staff, is the thought behind it i think
@@yoursfalsely
It’s the orientation, not the position, that confuses me. I know where the bass clef is usually located (though if you know your music history you’ll know that clefs didn’t always have a fixed location in the staff).

In my country these timbers are banned. Witnessing the Last thing of beauty
Pretty video, but really?? No sound clips??
Can i have it 😳
davie 504 must have this
I would love to build him one😁
Beautiful! But did we seriously not even get to hear it played!? :'( Awesome work!
There is a bit a the end, I'm sorry but it was rather quickly organised and just filmed with the camera..
Работа по дереву завораживает, но гитары начинают приедается.
Ну, здрасьте, именно гитары и интересны
@@Grigoryshaw Кому как я подписывался из-за кресеЛ
May any man claiming this not to be the most beautiful looking bass ever to have been produced on earth be struck down by a thousand bolts of lightening from god himself as a LIAR! Fine work right there, respect.

No se oye
collab with davie504
tune up ffs
Too much production, not enough conversation
A picture tells a thousand words, how many words is that with 25 fps😁. Jk, I might start talking in my videos some day but I'm afraid it would be a cringe fest..
Horrible music
