Eric ..please you MUST go to Sweden.. Nomadic Fanatic goes international!! Also, I think a year ago, somebody made a comment about you mostly staying at Walmart and not doing the international thing...well how about another time where you not only prove the haters wrong but also keep on going with the great theme you have of improving and expanding and growing as not only an RVer but a person.

Honey-do projects??? No where to sit, when I come over??? :-)
Sprinkle a good amount of baking soda in litter box, every time you change litter, will help with smell.
Add a little excitement to Jax's day, put a couple bags of pop-rocks in there.

That pull off by the bridge is just river access, it is common in NY if you look for it. The USGS uses it when they measure the flow of the water and people use it for fishing and stuff.

    HI Eric
Those pedestrian bridges over the Ithaca gorges all have barriers around and underneath them to help prevent suicides. Every year Cornell students, usually Asians recently, kill themselves from the academic pressures or whatever else that has depressed them. These barriers are the result of family members of suicide victims suing Ithaca and Cornell. Did you notice the video cameras at the entrances for monitoring for suicidal behavior?
Up until the suit, the local government and Cornell and even Ithaca college seemed to have been content with suicides, probably for Darwinian reasons. When the suit happened you should have seen all the finger pointing going on instead of immediately resolving the problem with physical barriers.
A sad but true commentary on those pedestrian bridges and roadways that traverse over the gorges. The gorges are famous for suicides going back many, many years. In a bizarre way I guess it was considered a tradition by the locals.

    Eric,
I like your project idea for the litter box. I have some ideas and advice I would like to share as an amateur carpenter to another.
1- I noticed the foam cases were a little loose and I recommend a slice of egg crate foam to make up the slack. Its easy to cut with scissors to fit.
2- That was not at all the best plywood and is typically used for roofing. At least you pre drilled the holes and screwed it. Forgot glue though. Next time opt for a 4x8' sheet of harder grade plywood (around 25 bucks) and just discard what you dont need after all the cuts.
3- Since you seem to have a jig saw why not cut a hole in the side base of the front dinette seat. Whats under there?

I work at Jo Ann Fabrics. We always cut the foam flat on the cutting table. I love the way the girl did it at that Jo Anns by standing it up vertically on the floor and cutting it. You can get more muscle into it and let gravity help slice it. Thanks for the tip.

Paint the inside of the cat box with a very durable latex paint 2-3 layers. Or if you have the time, polyurethane the inside of it with 3 layers of polyurethane. This will help prevent the wood from absorbing smells and moisture. It will also be more sanitary and much easier to clean and wipe down when needed.

Ithaca! My home town. If you get a chance, the whole Finger Lakes area is a delight to explore. I've stopped at that park in Watkins Glen many times. The tower in one of your shots was a brine well for salt. The Lake was Seneca Lake. The lake that Ithaca sits on is Cayuga Lake. Love the Finger Lakes! Autumn in New England should be a color fest. Enjoy!

I like this much better get the litter box out of your face while you are trying to eat and work. You might want to line the box on the inside with a plastic so if he sprays over it wont get into the wood and smell.

    • @wildflowerwind6941
      @wildflowerwind6941 8 років тому

Couldn't you just put the plastic cover back on the box. It doesn't have to fit perfect.

    • @thisisheatherathome
      @thisisheatherathome 8 років тому

He is safe even if the snow piles up they open up the roads where you can get in and out. When I worked with JB HUNT I use to drive the NH through NYC damn near every trip. I got shot up into NH where I got a load of paper from Ox Baker the wrestler. A lot of JB HUNT truckers know what I am talking about OX BAKER was a security guard at the paper mill after wrestling was done with him. They blew his knees out etc he was a big man impressive but he was clearly handicapped. When OX BAKER spoke the walls vibrated the most impressive low tone bass voice I have ever heard.
If you go to NEW ENGLAND they know what to do with snow they deal with it EVERY YEAR. Sure you might get snowed in for a blizzard but you get out in a week or so worst case.

...looks like the first park you were at is Clute Park and Campground 155 S Clute Park Dr, Watkins Glen, NY 1489. Right around the corner is a way better NYS park with trails that go up into a creek - Watkins Glen State Park 1009 N Franklin St, Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
The Erie Canal has a lot of access points to it too that are beautiful to stop at. Some Finger Lakes are connected to the canal that runs completely across NYS. Try the Sylvan Beach old time amusement park on Oneida Lake and the Erie Canal. A few campgrounds there that you can stay 10ft from the canal waters.
If you go to the Seneca Army Depot area, you can see a herd of famous wild white deer.
Also Seneca Falls was the little town that was based on the setting for the Christmas movie ''It's a Wonderful Life''.
Enjoy NY and while you are in the middle of wine country, stop and grab a bottle.

The falls were beautiful and serene! I'm sure the foliage will be changing magnificently shortly! New England is gorgeous in Autumn!! That's a nice camouflage for Jax's litter box!! Last year I changed to a different litter for our cat and there is ZERO odor, it's wonderful, the absolute best I've ever used. One last thing...something that crazy...(I'm certain that most of your viewers are adults) WHY instead of using Morgan's name you use terms like "a certain friend" or "somebody special"?? You'll insinuate like we don't know what's going on!! We all know....so say her name instead of acting like a sheepish infatuated kid!! C'mon now!! Stay safe!!

NO WAY! I could have sworn I passed an RV just like yours, and it was! That stop under the overpass is a popular fishing hole. It's coordinates are 42°28'18.08"N 76°25'9.03"W. I pass by there at least two times a day. Glad that you enjoyed my home town!

We've been going back and watching all your travels and low and behold you finally made it to our neck of the woods in upstate New York! For the record if you think Ithaca is GORGEOUS you should walk the gorge in Watkins Glen! Seriously just look for picture of the Watkins Glen gorge online - it's AMAZING! Another 'fun' thing about this episode is I actually ran a 'kettle' campaign for the Salvation Army in the Syracuse area one year and you slept in one of the lots where we had kettles! Anyway, thanks for the video - LOVED IT!!!

Eric.. Searching for a subject? Been watching, but you haven't done a article on the remote charging monitor setup. My controller doesn't have a "ether net type connection" How do I?...
Ready to order but not sure about the MT-1...Thanx Bill

Cat box console, what will they think of next. Hope it warks and gets the Jax stamp of approval.

That's a great idea to have your own dinette back, it looks so more spacious and I hope by now Jax snuggled up next to you whilst driving! Hope we will see that next time! 😻
And what a surprise walk that turned out to be! Wauw, thinking it's a good walking trail, but then... WAUW! So high and seeing that water grooving it's edges downhill... breathtaking scenery!
Again, love to follow alongside and happy that you are willing to share it.... You really make me laugh, feel kind of free and show me things I myself am not ever be able (litteraly) walk those walks again..
A few videos back you mentioned it out loud and boy, you had me right there... you truly know that you have followers from where ever over the world that apprisiate the crap out of all you show me (us)
    Again, I thank you!

JoAnn's Fabrics is a kickass store for all sorts of useful material for the project craftsman. Good job Eric. One concern is though, won't you miss being able to move from your driver's seat to the living space of the RV now that the new cat box is in the way? However, Jax is a priority, so I suppose that is but a small drawback relative to the benefits of having him near you while you are driving. Good day :)

That OSB is going to get pretty rank-smelling pretty fast... How 'bout using a tub with the lid on top to carry the cat bed & Sir Jax, cut out the end a bit, and have another try/or cut-down tub inside for the actual litter box?
I like the idea shared here of making the litter box a part of an outside compartment, that you can service from the outside, and it doesn't claim much real estate from your living space... :-)
    Hey, your house, your rules...!

Eric, So glad you are showing the "real New York". I was born and raised in Chatauqua County and happy to see the rural and scenic New York. Most people that are not familiar with the sate hear New York and think only of New York City. So much more and you are showing the best of the State. Keep up the good work and ignore the haters.

I wish I had started watching you when you were in NY! I went to school out there (Elmira and Cornell). I'm so glad you got to see Watkins Glenn and Ithaca, though. Super awesome (especially geologically!)

You can vacuum shrink stuff like those cushions using a vacuum cleaner and a plastic bag...then stuff them in a small bin before they swell again....works well with off season clothing and comforters. I love NY.

Hey Eric, do you have a mailing address for us to send something to Jax? I remember people sending gifts last year for his birthday. BTW NY is pretty but those skies would kill me....soooooo depressing not having any sun.

Eric, I'm from the Syracuse, Utica area. If you get to Utica you should try the Utica Club Brewery tour. 1880's style bar and you get a couple of free beers at the end.

You are in the East coast. I was born in Auburn NY my grandparents old house was across the lake from Ithiaca. I saw snow on EVERY major holiday. You are on borrowed time. Most campground start to shut down in September.

Eric, by turning the box around, Jax could enter by the dash board area and keep his stuff out of view.... by pulling the box towards the rear gives ample room for cleaning , perhaps a peel and stick oderizer in the top will help also...... looks like an all nighter with great results
