Because especially in casual situations, just stating details about myself would feel like I'm being interviewed. As I was watching a movie on my telly, a lightbulb moment hit me. I should introduce myself with stories. I have a ton of stories, I wondered which ones I should use. So I start by classifying them. I figured that I should have stories that put myself in a good light, stories that put someone I know in a good light, and a story where I messed up to show that I'm human and allow the listeners to not shell up. If you didn't notice, this guy is really proving to be a master class in communication with the recent settings of his videos. A ted talk or presentation doesn't stick as much as an informal setting like this, because it automatically feels more like something a buddy is telling you, which keys in to a more emotional recollection of the information presented.
Also the busy sounds tend to switch your filters and busy mind over to cutting out those noises and helps you subconsciously focus more on what he's saying

not the first time ive heard this. It's true. I'm trying to become a writer myself and one of the most important game changing pieces of information i ever came across is to have a story dump folder somewhere. A place where you can write ideas, stories, experiences without the pressure of making it sound clean for writing. That alone has done allot for me and i deff recommend it for anyone, even if you're not trying to be a writer
this works if you tell somebody else your story as well, the reason why we won't tell them on the spot is because of missing keywords. One of my favorite stories that always comes to mind when someone says tell me a story is about how when I was younger, I used to always take the bus to school. One friday afternoon, last day before summer holidays, nobody said "enjoy your holidays" or "see you in two weeks" so it didn't click for me. On the following monday, I woke up and went ro school normally, not knowing i was on holidays. It was after 7 bus stops and a still empty bus that I asked the driver "why is the bus empty" to which he looked at me all surprised and said "... aren't you supposed to be on school holidays?"
I'm so happy I found your videos; great content! This is helpful for those of us who don't really understand social communication and detest typical small talk.
This is actually beautiful but for a different reason IMO. Its also why i think pictures are amazing. There are so many memories that we have stored in our brain, and there may be a story that we thought of for the last time and will never think of it again. However sometimes i go through my camera roll and its literally like going through memory lane and basically recalling my whole life. A single picture can make you recall that memorie and that leads to recalling how you felt and makes you feel that way again :D So my advice, take one picture of an event in your life that moved you. And you dont have to take the pic during the event, if you were at a concert you can take the picture on the way there or on the wy back, and the pic will work as a key to unlock the memory whenever u want :D
Mahn just thanks a lot! im that kind of person who loves taking pics, its not just a pic for me but a memory ofc..each pic holds meaning but the prob part is my gallery is filled with so many pics bcz i take it for everything. So maybe later on,i shid try taking pic of something memorable or something that i want to cherish and store it in my notes so i can remeber memories from that particular events alone and i live writing poems but dont get a topic lol so wditing a poem abt it wud be improving my poem skills as well..Ive got this idea from u so thabks lol and im naturally very observant.

I literally started this today. I don't plan on writing a memoir, but I wrote a 1 page 'story' about what inspired me to write my first SF book. I don't ever plan on telling that story, but in a way, it can be used an answer to what may very well be a common question from others: so why inspired you to write this book. Voila. A canned response and on the spot story all in one. I like the idea of the story bank as well. The next short should be the best formula for telling a quick story so as not to bore people. One of the basic tenets of public speaking is to connect with the audience and that's best achieved through storytelling So, this isn't about telling stories to strangers at parties, this is about having material at hand when crafting a presentation.
I do this quite regularly and you’d be amazed at how you’ll look back 2/3 years ago and see an amazing event in your life that you all of a sudden remember every detail to. Seeing moments from years ago that you don’t remember at all is a bit crazy when you first go back because you don’t realize just how much goes on in your life that is never remembered.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. Because it’s true, we should document our days so that we can become better storytellers so again thank you.❤
this was actually very useful advice.. when im looking for things of this nature this is exactly the information i'm looking for.. a lot of people fail at this
Even more better would be to write them down in a journal. By writing it down, you will remember it much better and would be much easier for you to tell it to others
I have been doing this for awhile now, benefit I saw is that it helps me to remember the details better, bcs of the action of writing them down. And my biggest surprise is that some story wasn't actually interesting until I putting down in my note.
To any journalists out there, when someone responds to your question with “great question” it means they have A) heard it before B) have an answer prepared and C) it’s an easy question for them to answer Doesn’t mean it’s a bad question, but it does signal that your angle isn’t unique and that maybe you should try to ask a more difficult question / something they haven’t heard before.

I’ve seen 3 videos of this guy and it gets better everytime.
Getting my expectations satisfied, which isn’t common.
Great knowledge and advise there, keep it up, appreciate them.
He didn’t even answer the question
If you didn't notice, this guy is really proving to be a master class in communication with the recent settings of his videos. A ted talk or presentation doesn't stick as much as an informal setting like this, because it automatically feels more like something a buddy is telling you, which keys in to a more emotional recollection of the information presented.
Also the busy sounds tend to switch your filters and busy mind over to cutting out those noises and helps you subconsciously focus more on what he's saying
as someone who isnt that great at talking publicly or being the center of attention, this dude is definitely the most useful person I’ve ever seen on shorts. in every single one of his videos i gain a little more knowledge that i know will be useful for me. idc if he sees it or not I APPRECIATE YOU ASKVINH
Iphones are not superior to Androids, that's nonsense.
Completely agree
Yeah what he said was pretty anti semetic
@@anthonydelange4128wut
It's just a joke because I guess most of business people use iphones
IPhones are better than androids for people who don't understand technology
Thanks for sharing Vinh💯
#To be a great storyteller you must become a great collector of stories.
You can have the greatest collection of stories on the planet and still be a shit story teller. This was utter nonsense.
Bro just described a diary
True. And novels are just someone else's diaries.
I think you mean journaling
@@joshualytle1 that's probably the word I'd choose 👍
This didn't tell me how to be a better storyteller.
But, this was a very valuable piece of advice that I just implemented.
Thanks.
not the first time ive heard this.
Start every story with “the last time I shit my pant was..” hooks em every time.
Thanks for telling me to document my memories❤ actually im someone who forgets literally everything and cannot even remember what i ate this morning😂
He answered the question of how to collect more stories, but not how to tell a story well
I'm so happy I found your videos; great content!
A single picture can make you recall that memorie and that leads to recalling how you felt and makes you feel that way again :D
So my advice, take one picture of an event in your life that moved you.

@@israhmanal8296 Wow that sounds so cool!! And also sounds like a great Plan! :D
@Irapa7 Haha thankss!♡ Nice how we can still share ideas and keep things as memories despite all the bad effects of social media's.I like to be a very thoughtful person tho not many ppl care or make fun lol.i just try to find meaning behind everything..Good dayy mate!
Do u write poems too?
This is why Journaling is so important.
Even better, make a folder called Journal or Stories. You can have many note folders 😉
Yes and you can pull it out and rehearse before Xmas dinner and social events with people your desperate to impress 👍..getting a personality is the best start!
@@geoffsaunderson5766 telling stories is sharing experiences. For the purpose of learning lessons from them. Yes some do tell stories for ego and self gratification and these are usually filled with lies and are easy to spot. Not everyone’s out here “to show off”. Stories have lessons in them.
I have quite a few interesting things that happen to me, but have trouble 'hooking' people from start to end during the retelling of it.
You are the ONLY person I won't argue iphone vs Android because you are so wholesome and your content is inspiring and helpful
AWESOME! This is so awesome. I'm good story teller, and this idea is beyond value - limitless. I LOVE this This is one simple idea of great value which I have learned via UA-cam
So, in essence. Keep a journal, diary. At the end of the day, just write on it. Make it a routine to just document the impactful things that happen during the day or the week so that you can reflect on them and tell them later on.
"Though I live iPhones, they are much more superior" Honestly man I got huge respect to what you do but man you aren't great with technology or market options...
Ya Android>>> iPhone anyday
I think that’s called a journal
Or dairy
@@ElAnvaBar That’s milk my guy

Incredible Advice ! When I will deal with lazyness to type it in notes that can improve my storytelling and small talks to a very different level. Thanks !
Once I got on the bus and all of a sudden I smelt strong shit flavor from the guy beside me. I said loudly: "Damn bro! You smell like shit!" I took another seat, yet the shitty scent remained. Then I realized that I am the one that stepped on shit. I got off on the next stop and walked 3 miles to home. That moved me deeply.
Loved your story man!!!!😂 It moved me deeply as well
And yet, I absolutely hate it when someone I just met tells me a story.
One of the basic tenets of public speaking is to connect with the audience and that's best achieved through storytelling So, this isn't about telling stories to strangers at parties, this is about having material at hand when crafting a presentation.
This is the kind of co-worker you don't want.
absolutely
The gossiper. Taking things happened to other people and making stories out of them to earn social currency.
He has a way of making the mundane seem profound.
If something really moves you emotionally, you should have automatically captured it within you!
I prefer Samsung. The end.
How to talk to a table without actually saying anything
This guy might be one of the best orators I’ve had the pleasure of hearing
Thank you so much for sharing this video. Because it’s true, we should document our days so that we can become better storytellers so again thank you.❤
I have many stories, never forget things in my life. Amazes me when I bring up things and friends forgot everything about that day.
Being a good storytelling isn't about giving an answer. It's about getting the audience to ask questions.
Knowing me I’d forget to document the story, never mind forgetting the story.
this was actually very useful advice.. when im looking for things of this nature this is exactly the information i'm looking for.. a lot of people fail at this
When he said iPhones were superior, I felt emotionally moved by that completely comedic story.
Even more better would be to write them down in a journal. By writing it down, you will remember it much better and would be much easier for you to tell it to others
Just now created this in my cell phone. Great advice
I have been doing this for awhile now, benefit I saw is that it helps me to remember the details better, bcs of the action of writing them down. And my biggest surprise is that some story wasn't actually interesting until I putting down in my note.
First good short I've come across on youtube today
If you have an emotional story for every day, you are living one exciting life
he actually has a really got point here.
He moved all of you guys emotionally with that iPhone comment 😂😂
Thank you for giving such a wonderful things to us❤
To any journalists out there, when someone responds to your question with “great question” it means they have A) heard it before B) have an answer prepared and C) it’s an easy question for them to answer
Doesn’t mean it’s a bad question, but it does signal that your angle isn’t unique and that maybe you should try to ask a more difficult question / something they haven’t heard before.
Superior in making the same phone each year😂
The guy probably thinking "sure, but that sounds boring, maybe I just don't need to remember stories".
becasue every great story begins with 'hold on let me get my phone'
This guy is really good at talking, I would imagine thats all he has done his whole life.
I feel like this advise just changed my life.
Bro really thinks I'm emotionally moved every day... bruh my emotions so deeply buried from all the trauma I'm lucky to even notice if I feel anything that month.
In those 25yrs of my life, I got stories that would make you think it was from a movie or tv show.
I even wrote it down in my diary - Veronica had a very funny joke today. I laughed about it later that night!
Saying iPhone was superior is the greatest fiction ever told -written on the iPhone 14 mini
