5 Ways To Be Less SHY & More CONFIDENT!

  • I used to suffer from shyness outside of family. It's probably hard for you to believe if you've only known me for the last 10 years or so - but I didn't have much confidence growing up. These tips have helped me immensely over the years - I hope they can help you too.
If you believe that we become the things we consistently practice, then.. the reason you are shy is because you've practiced being shy. What if confidence just took practice?

Also a key was as people start seeing you as confident you can shift your own sense of confidence. By practicing being confident even when he was shy people started noticing & feeding that back to him ✅

I hate the whole "Fake it until you make it" thing. It feels like lying. It feels disingenuous. But *practicing* confidence... rather than "faking it" ... I can get on board with that. That's not a lie. That's just working on the skill.

I think what he means more is that that practice will give u the push u will need. Because personally i have done presentation over presentation over the years and it has not worked. And i agree that maybe if i would only focus now on the other person's brain, on how what im gonna transmit will help them, instead of me, it can do the trick. It's not like one will fake it the rest of their lives, it's just the beginning facade that will portray whom u will become with this practice:)
At the end of the day it depends how u wanna see it, like any other life topic, but in my opinion i think it's great advice:)

I mean, “fake it until you make it” can do wonders too; like going to sleep, “being happy” (people say that smiling can trick/lie your brain into thinking that you’re actually happy), seeing new things from a new perspective (you can only see a different point of view if you pretend to believe in it for a while I guess), etc.
It depends on what you’re using it for, but overall I think it's a powerful tool to begin something wonderful

What I've taken away from the "fake it to you make it" slogan, is that just jumping in and doing the work is a far better teacher than any amount of school will ever give you. They say that as a way to get people to stop over thinking and just do the thing in order to get better at it, this, "making it".

The problem is that we underestimate our capabilities and come to feel deceived that we can't do this or that. Maybe at the beginning it feels strange to 'fake it' confidence (or whatever else), but eventually you'll achieve that goal.

I had been thinking about this quite recently too. The more self-conscious I am at a moment, the more shy/awkward I get. Once I have a stronger sense of self/purpose/direction, the awkwardness/self-consciousness dies down.

Amazing video Vinh! The first part is really useful for introverts and teenagers (I used to be that way) when I feel my introvert come out sometimes and it makes me seem like I have two different personalities. Sometimes I do t want to have small talk sometimes I do. All depending on my emotions that day and I’m working on that.
As a content creator, I would love some of the ways your thought process goes when presenting your content.

I remember my first public speaking class in first semester in college back in 2019 i was like "Shit here we go again" even tho i was pretty sociable i had stage fright and i was so shy to talk infront of a CROWD of classmates and a teacher who is 100% confident in when it comes to speaking to a crowd. what i thought was i will pretend that i am alone in the classroom and just rehearsing my prepared speech, and oh boy i nailed that presentation and class mates started always putting me in group debates when teachers ask for a debate i was the person, cuz they said "i inspire confidence" just hearing those words made me more confident in speaking to crowds. Your thought process is perfect for ppl who are shy and want to become more confident in their speaking/communication skills

I've suffered from over shyness and lack of confidence, all my life. I've got through life by using my practical skills. Ive never been able to contribute within meetings or say what i really want to say. It makes me ill thinking about an upcoming meeting or a seminar. I've tried everything. My previous Employer (were i worked for 30 year) sent me on a training course many years ago to improve my communication skills, All it was back then, was me, standing on an empty stage in a theatre with no audience, and reading from a script.
I've learnt more from watching a few of your videos on how to be more confident and less shy. However Its the doing it in public I cant overcome. I hope after watching more of your videos it helps me overcome my fears. Many Thanks

My problem with implementing all of this is that I am unable to handle the amount of social pressure I feel after expressing myself as an outgoing person. Like putting on makeup, I feel that I've raised the standard for myself when I behave confidently, and people expect for me to show up with a full face of makeup and a confident personality all the time. I simply can't maintain it all of the time, because it requires too much energy. I'm too introverted to implement these tips, since people expect me to act this way and it is incredibly draining to do so.
