I'm 58 and many of the opportunities the young have today did not exist when I was in my 20's..... or the info was not as readily available as it is today. I fully support your decision to travel. In fact I strongly encourage ALL those able to travel to do it!!!!! You have a sound mind. I'm going to lurk from the shadows a bit on your journey. Bon Voyage!!!!!
Thank you!!
I like living vicariously through other people, too--from one boomer to a fellow boomer..
I believe the opportunity was there... but we did not have the courage to take it!
You can travel at 58!
I get what you’re saying. We didn’t have internet to research or couldn’t see UA-camrs doing it. Also living in a small town I didn’t see other people traveling for extended periods of time. And no, we can’t necessarily travel freely in our late 50’s. We have responsibilities….elderly parents, jobs….
It's mentally healthy to bring seasons to an end. The excitement you show to enter your Next paradigm shift is inspirational! May the Trinity guide your precious footsteps in your travels & overwhelm you with overjoy.
Hi. I am curious what you mean about the end of seasons, since life is full of those annual quartets. It's a long, tough process, but I am getting rid of-- wanting to feel free of-- years of mementos. Thanks. :-)
What a beautiful sentiment 💕
My family did the same exact thing a couple months ago-- got rid of 70% of all our things. It was cathartic, necessary, and freeing. You are off on an amazing journey and I wish you everything wonderful. I adore you and your videos.
I did that when I moved from California to Colorado recently. I took eleven boxes and five pieces of furniture with me. I sold the rest or gave it to Goodwill. It’s a great feeling to be clutter free. It’s difficult to let go of the stuff, but once you do you will not miss the things you get rid of.
Completely agree - I don’t think I’ll look back and regret this
So true … Generally , I never miss stuff I donate. Once in a great while I’ll second guess something after the fact, but it fades & then I’m just glad to have the freed up
space. I’m 64 & will move to NC in the next year or so. I’ve downsized before, & declutterred a ton over the years. But there’s still more to do.
Decluttering is important. It helps us mentally. You go! 👍
totally!
Yes, decluttering starts with changing old leaders who do not want us to change to better ourselves.
I am 72. I fill big bags for Goodwill every week. We travel with one carry-on bag and one tote bag each. 99% of things are replaceable. Tina
"not reliant on travel guides or real estate agents" was very true for me in my travels. Some countries was totally not what movies, media or the news depicted it to be. They made it to be dangerous & the ppl scary. My time there proved it all false. The places were beautiful the ppl warm friendly & inviting. excited for the adventures ahead of u
YEAH MINIMALISM
let's live our suitcase life and travel!!
"What Color is Your Parachute"
Very informative.
Much like your minimalism accomplishment, it helps filter through all of the requirements you are looking for.
It can also help with work and home location combo best locations.
It may be fun to see what it comes up with.
or, as always, you are free to make your own choice. Maybe combine the results?🤔
I wish you the best of luck, success, and happiness in your travels.
Go go go, Erica!! 😃 I’m also doing 30 days decluttering challenge this month to get rid of total 500 items by reducing X items on day X. Love your videos! 💜
That sounds really cool!
Congratulations on your decluttering and starting your travel journey Erika! I love how you are clear about what matters to you, letting go of items that no longer cultivate joy in your life and found lots of new homes for the items to be cherished!
I'm going through a similar "reduction" -- moving from 2400sqft to 1600sqft and have about 15 days until the move. it's amazing to see all the "stuff" we somehow have and now need to confront when it comes time to relocate. GOOD LUCK on your journey! :) I'll be here downsizing and packing. LOL
Very impressive Ericka, I'm going to start calling you the "Terminator"... That being said I'm calling you that because you get shit done... Very inspiring, you know how to go out and make your dreams come true... Well done😉👍🏆
This is straight goals Erika! Congrats on taking on the digital nomad life!
Really appreciate your concise and logistical approach onto becoming a digital nomad. Congratulations!
I completely admire what you have done and your discipline in doing it. I only hope to be able to declutter and simplify like you have!
Erika I too am getting rid of all my stuff and moving to Thailand from the U.S. so I can start a new and most likely the last chapter in my life. Thanks for the good cleaning out tips as I planed on going with only two
suit cases also. Travel is also in my plans but in a different way as I am retired now this move has been 10 years in the making. ( Japan is my first trip out )
So you got rid of everything but us the subscribers at least we are easy to travel with, keep us in the loop.
Looking forward to your adventures. All The Best.
That’s so bold and freeing! Safe travels Erika! We’ll be following your journey here in youtube. All the best!❤️
what a great move. Living the dream, literally.
This was absolutely an eye opening video. I admire you for going through this extreme to be free.
You just helped me to realize that I want to do the same, I've done it few times in my life before and it was such a clean beginning, I want to get that feeling back again. Thank you for sharing this! Good luck with your travel!
I love love love ❤❤❤ how you know that you want to be a digital nomad but seasons change so you know you won’t be there forever. Very insightful and forward thinking.
Congratulations on making such a wonderful cleansing change at your young age: I’m in the opposite stage in life; 60 so that’s my plan for the 1st 3-5 years of retirement
I love the concept of putting a time expectation on it that forces you to act sooner rather than have it be drawn out. As traveling the world and being a digital nomad is my goal too, going from being a crafter/cosplayer has made it hard to part with the part of me in the past to move forward with less things the way I'll need to. Thank you for filming this as it gave that extra boost of motivation!
All the best Erika! This takes a lot of guts and confidence but imagining all the future prospects you could have is so exciting! Wishing you all the best in this journey. 😀
Living vicariously through everything you’re venturing into 🙏🏼
After this video I got up from the long existentional nap and did great changes, decluttering not only my closet but my whole life. Feel free and will never regret it! Thanks, dear Erika. ❤️
Well done Erika, I’ve got rid of most of my possessions, including things I’ve had since I was a child but I feel free now and have absolutely no regrets. Great upload! Wishing you the best.
I love this idea! Everything about it, including your execution! I have no intention of traveling like you, but physical possessions can weigh us down so much either way. Very inspirational, thank you.
Don’t forget to have a cardamom bun for breakfast! I spent 6 months in Finland as an exchange student and I fell in love with travel!!!
Congratulations, and such a liberating feeling to live minimalistic and know that you don't have to keep up with the Joneses. Every residential move that I've ever done I have always decluttered and I continue to declutter and love every minute. Congratulations and safe travels
This is INSANE! I get so attached to stuff and I'm too sentimental so it's inspiring to see you get down to 2 suitcases. 👏👏
I'm so glad I came across your video!
My family and I are moving overseas and this really helps and encourages me to declutter and let go of attachments.
Thank you for sharing your story!🌌
This is a phenomenal video. Especially learning not to be so attached to stuff early in life. A couple of times I've paid for things a couple of times over just because I put them in storage. Not any more. Decluttering is freeing in so many ways!
Awesome!! I love doing a big cleaning 2x a year and we donate a lot of things. Also from an energetic standpoint, you’re making so much room for bigger blessings!! I recommend cleansing your home after all this since many different people came in.
Yes sage it
Wow this is so inspiring and helpful. We should do this decluttering and help those in need. Thank you Erika for sharing this video
Thank you!
Erika, this is such a motivational video. I really enjoy your authenticity. All the best!
What an inspiration! I’ve had a storage unit decluttering for the past six years. Got rid of most large items after 24 years and that was a major freeing. Now onto the debris…
I would love to do this. This is awesome. I'm so happy for you and inspired 🙌🏾💖
That's what I was doing for 3 years when I read a book of minimalism. I started to declutter more when I have plan to move to another country this year.
Just what I want to do! You are inspiring !
I'm happy to see you decluttering! I got into minimalism back in 2018 and it has changed the way I live very positively
Been minimizing for years. Happy to see this vid ❤🧡💛💚
Congrats on getting to this stage. Much Love from Trinidad
It's not easy giving away the stuff especially the ones that have lasting memory but sometimes you got too,I'm happy you are getting out comfort zone and exploring the world 🌎 and seeing what others culturals have to offer, you have goal set in mind an have idea on what to do..I wish you God speed in your new chapter in life.
So very brave, and exciting at the same time! I've downsized quite a bit moving from a house to renting. As you said, you really don't realize how much stuff we accumulate over the years! Fun to watch your adventure - thanks for sharing!
Huge respect Erika. You're absolutely right to do this travelling and see the world etc before you have kids and give them the stability of a warm and safe home. I certainly don't regret all the travelling I did when I was younger. When my partner moved in with me, he felt the need to put ALL his belongings in 'storage'. He hasn't used ANY of it for the last 7 years. We've spent a year in complete lockdown where he couldn't access anything if he wanted to. I can't tell you how much money he has wasted saving his 'furniture and items' he can't even tell me what's in there. Now we're looking for a family home with a 2 year old and we could have done with that money he's thrown away. Best wishes... stay safe x
Wow that's incredible. :) I watch your channel every week . I just paid off my biggest debt in my life. I'm gonna have my wife watch this video and hope she wants to do decluttering. Wish me luck.
this is so cool. great video! I live in Michigan and my husband just got a job in Hawaii so we're doing the same thing!! Thanks for the motivation! take care!
I love this!!! I got rid of many things before moving to my new place and I feel like I have more stuff that needs to go. I'm definitely trying to get to a point where I'm just using two suitcases because I definitely would like to travel more. When j get to the point where I can travel more I'll definitely be going more minimal.
You went through The gentle art of Swedish Death cleaning at such a young age- well done! it really gets very hard as you get older!
I love that! I am doing the same thing right now, also minimized my life to 2 suitcases (and a bag :)) I am currently in Spain, Alicante :) I highly recommend you Costa Blanca in Spain, totally worth checking out.
That was a power move I am a proud of you for doing it Traveling the world is the right thing to do during this time😇
Excited for you and your future experiences. 🌏 💫 You’re inspiring me to keep on with the decluttering too.
I love your thoughtfulness about living life! ❤️❤️❤️
Love your clarity explained in such a beautiful wise way 💜💚💙
Thanks for the inspiration! I got my stuff down to a carload and then lived in a place and accumulated some more. Now I'm in the process of going through my storage unit which aside from sellables, is full of sentimental things and my favorite things. It's a whole other level of decluttering than I have ever done....but I know I want to travel the world so none of this stuff is going with me.
I have been wanting to literally let people walk thru my house like a store intead of doing yard sale or garage sale style that i don't have time or spare energy for!
Erika, you are brave & you have the world by the tail! Congratulations! Your video inspired me!
Very inspiring! Your upbeat spirit and "why's" for doing such an intense purge gives me hope I can tackle my major clutter
Amazing. After five years of living in Japan myself, it was time to go. I totally get it. Safe and Happy Travels to you both.
Wow! You are so brave. I applaud you for making a plan and executing it. Best of Luck!
It's amazing and I do so much understand you. 6 months earlier, we thought with my husband that we will probably go live in the US or........ elsewhere, but not staying in Switzerland. And we were like ... "Yeah, we will just take the minimum with us". Finally plans changed, but........ I do so much understand, and I think it's brilliant ! I wish you a beautiful adventure, and all the best for this new chapter in your life ! Sabrina
WOOOOOW, I was so touched when I saw that you only left your suitcases.
This is awesome! I’m looking forward to spending a month in the summer visiting and staying in a new state starting next year when I become a teacher! I am wanting to travel so much - minimizing and simplifying things will definitely help me with this goal as well ☺️ I hope you enjoy your travels! ✈️
Wow, this was one of the most truly inspirational videos I have watched on UA-cam, thanks for sharing it. Very thought provoking, love that you set a short timeline to do it too, not heard that advice before for decluttering. 😊
wow! even the way your journey starts is exciting! meeting Olympians on the plane! would have loved to talk to a sailing olympian!
you're an inspiration, thanks for the videos. I'm a supporter(and a subscriber!)
you are free to roam now. wow, that's amazing!
This is amazing, I'm so excited to see your digital nomad journey!
thank you!!
Decluttering is good for your mind!
This was forced on me with my deployment. It felt very nice to reduce my life.
This man is a machine
When you talk about this adventure you forget to mention that you’re husbands along with you on this journey as well. Lol.
Would love to see a video on what you packed into your two suitcases and took with you on your travels?
Love this - so glad my daughter suggested your channel! Good luck and enjoy your adventures
Hi Erika! I started decluttering my apartment as well and you have further inspired me on this difficult task. I am getting rid of the easy stuff first (sentimental wise) and then going through again and making those tough decisions. Although, I can’t be a digital nomad due to my current military commitment, I hope to reduce around 75% of my stuff. Thanks for the tips and tricks and more so for expressing your honest feelings about it. Removing close possessions is obviously not an easy thing to do, but you’re living proof that it can be done. Thanks for sharing your incredible journey 😊 and paving that path🐾 for the rest of us.
I will be decluttering this weekend. I am so excited. My husband not so much.
Congrats Erika, all the best with the new chapter.
You inspire me! Enjoy your new journey.
Wow I'm soooo excited for you. Soo inspiring
It makes you instantly less stressed!
totally!
WoW good for you!! It's hard to let go but you realize how much you can live without.
Erika, you are a true inspiration. Loving your videos~ new subscriber here! Much love from a Filipino based in Singapore ;)
Thank you so much!!
Awesome channel you have here Miss Erika! Rooting you for every journeys you are on! 😊
Wow. What a wonderful video. Can’t wait to see your journey.
So excited about your journey!! Can't wait to see the next update!!
The echo after you decluttered sounds crisp and crystal.
Congratulations on your move and decision, always great advices from your videos, stay safe, following from Guam 🇬🇺
Yous guys are in for an AWESOME Adventure!! Sooo Happy for ya's!!!
must be God because I was literally having a melt doen today because of my clutter
Try South Australia! We have a very relaxed lifestyle especially in the country/rural areas and suburbs 30 minutes to an hour from the city
Congratulations! Looking forward to following your next chapter! 😃🤙
I did the same for 2 years,. Your story brought back good memories. 😀
So happy for you!!
It was one of the best things I’ve done. I need to get rid of things again and I will keep doing it.
you’re a genuine inspiration! though i’m not in the move/travel mindset, i have recently decided to make drastic decluttering my goal for the next indeterminate future as well. Unfortunately for me, i have a high level of inertia to overcome in order to get any traction in this endeavor so, as per your comment, some manner of timeboxing will be critical to success (so thanks for that important note!) very best of luck!
I had to de clutter when I moved across the country. It was nice because it felt like a weight was lifted off my back.Great video!
Yesss! Exactly! :)
Brave Girl! Good for you!!
I recently moved to The South from California with just what I could fit into a Toyota Matrix….
I gotta admit, it is kinda liberating to get rid of things you don’t really need.
It really is!
Wow, well done, you're being so adventurous, good luck. X
Yes, you will eventually want a house for stability but well done 👏
