Take back expired meds to a pharmacy so they don’t end up in our water. Take batteries and technology to an eco center. Decorative pillows can get a new cover to change our decor. I love your book idea!
Dom you a an angel for this information! you are making a huge difference, dont let anyone tell you otherwise. jk im throwing my meds in the garbage… the gas it cost me to go to the store will wreck my carbon footprint sorry Dom
Less is more. I got rid of so many unnecessary things in my whole house after watching your video..And the result? I feel more productive and I have a much healthier environment. Thanks, Erika!!
I spent the whole Sunday afternoon cleaning and decluttering my apartment. I found there are many makeup or other items no longer spark my joy but they have taken up my space for years. I finally throw them away or intentionally use them to give them one last chance. I feel much happier and mentally fresh to start everything again.
Dull knifes can be sharpened again if it good quality knife. And canned food can be good after expiration date. It depends how it was stored. If lid is popped up it is bad even if not expired yet.
I agree with you about the wardrobe. I used to believe the same for books until the time I noticed some of my old books had book mites. That was disturbing. After that I have no problem throwing away and giving away books 📚
I use my bluray player almost every day. Checking out DVDs and blurays from the library for free is cheaper than paying for multiple streaming services to watch stuff. And expired teabags can be brewed and used as a cleaner for wood floors.
We sold our home of nearly 20 years and went through this filtering process. It felt so good to donate/sell/toss things that we’d simply stored because we could. Now we rent. This is an intentional plan to retire early. While we are glad of the things we’ve offloaded, there is still so much more to go. Thank you Erika for the inspiration and great advice!
Dates on canned foods aren't actually expiration dates, they are best by dates. When it comes to best by dates, you're not gonna get sick from consuming the item. It may not taste its best but you don't actually have to throw it out. However, if the can is damaged, disregard the best by date and throw it out. Also, you can resharpen dull knives - rather wasteful to just throw them out.
Thanks for the great advice, am in the process of decluttering now & there were a couple of things in this video that I had not thought of doing. Really useful...thanks. 😊
@@dianaray1470 I spent 30 years sharpening dental instruments. I don't have that machine at home, but found a couple inexpensive things for use at home. AccuSharp for knives, and Shear Sharp (TM) for scissors. I love both and use monthly.
I am also starting my minimalist journey and there are just some things I could not get rid of just yet. But well, in minimalism, they say, "To each his own," or something like that..
I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you not only for the information that you are providing but the way in which you're providing it. 50 years old my life money, financial planning and fiscal health always seem like a language and puzzle I just couldn't penetrate. You are that rarest of commodities and I feel like I just can have that secure pot of silver working for me...
Recently gutted my wardrobe and everything is still sitting in bags to go on eBay, but I was honest with myself about what I was and wasn't wearing, and to be honest, I can't even remember what's in those bags & don't miss the clothes. I should probably get rid of my Blu-rays too because I don't think I've touched them in 2-3 years and I'm also guilty of holding onto cards......I definitely need to declutter my life more. Thanks for the boost Erika!
For the knife people, I personally recommend sharpening it instead of throwing it away and buying a new one. You can easily sharpen your knife with a mug. You don't even need to have a sharpener.
Glad you are back! I missed you! Erika ..I have old things that I have thrown out! Recently I spent hours throwing away old stuff & recycle plastics & metal things! ..anthony .Gary, in. You Rock always! You are so nice! That is hard to find with people these days!
I am doing all of this all the time. And I use the 12-month rule too :) I even buy the same shoes and jeans now. If I like it, I just buy one or two more, so I don't have to spend time looking for new clothing. And I have a digital list of clothing that I like, with links where to buy it again. Saves soooo much time. My friend was watching me doing it and now he starts doing the same thing. And he is so happy about it. :) But thank you for the video. It was nice to know other people, doing the same thing. :)
Thanks for sharing your tips!! I’m not a minimalist but I definitely need help decluttering and there’s at least a few key things in here I need to revisit (eg, souvenirs, clothing, and cards!)
Okay……decorative pillows 😱🤯 I’ll sacrifice something else! These bring me way too much joy to let go…they are so soft, comforting, comfortable, and elevate my space, must keep but love most of the tips girl! 🥳
This is weird😂I was thinking lately how can I live my life with only one suit case and found this today!👍🏻😎with everything going on today I need to be prepared to run to any state!
I love this, i’ve been a minimalist most of my life because it’s just less clutter physically and mentally. Hope my future wife one day has the same mindset because I hate so much clutter in the house lolol
ERIKA!! Love the new video ❤ YOU ALWAYS INSPIRE ME TO LIVE A BETTER LIFE ❤ Btw, I arrived in OKINAWA and URUMA LAST NIGHT:) Going snorkeling today, haha
I actually disagree about the printer. If you rarely print, toss/sell your old inkjet and invest in a used scanner/laser printer from a name brand like Brother. The toner lasts forever versus ink cartridges, and you still have a printer that you can use if you do need something printed.
Going to have to disagree with the throwing out of any foods etc that are expired. Just because it has a date that has passed on it, does not make it bad. Instead of wasting it, make a conscious effort to use it right away before replacing or duplicating it.

At pharmacies they just mix the old meds with soap and water and dump it down the drain
I dump all down the toilet
@@Erika2 curious how old are you?

You're a breath of fresh air, all these youtubers saying "minimalism is dead" because their channels aren't cool no more need to take note
Wardrobe and books are where I draw the line. Everything else is on the chopping block.
Same 😁
:( me too!!!
Agree with you

I agree with you about the wardrobe. I used to believe the same for books until the time I noticed some of my old books had book mites. That was disturbing. After that I have no problem throwing away and giving away books 📚
I feel this but yarn and kitchen stuff. I need my spiralizer , dehydrator, food processor, and blender as a raw vegan.
I have the same.. On both books and some of my wardrobe. But also my music instruments and my cars.. They will never go. ;)
Irresistibly intelligent!!!

Had to fight against my hoarding instincts😁 still afflicted slowly improving ... keeping the books though!
I’m playing the 30 day minimalism game and it’s been so fun!
It is so therapeutic to declutter and minimalize. Great video.
Recognizing that minimalism is one the keys to long-term income. Great video, Erika!
I did about 60% of this stuff... Moving towards a minimalist lifestyle feels great 👍

Yes, throwing things you can repair easily and buying new ones is not minimalistic.

Why don't you sharpenen your dull knifes instead of throwing them away. This seems wasteful which would be counterproductive.
I’m super minimal until it comes to yarn and my go to kitchen supplies.

Hi Erika. Awesome video…I’m definitely gonna use some of these tips this weekend!
Let me know how it goes!
@@Erika2 yes! It went great! I have a ton of books waiting to be donated. ☺️
Maybe not much throw away as more recycle, rehome, give away, sell, properly dispose, etc
I personally draw the line at cards cause sending them world wide and receiving them is a big hobby. But I agree with most other things :)
Me too.
Thanks for the coverage reminder I'm tackling such when your notice popped up for decluttering .

Just sharpen your knives with the knife sharpener wand
BOOKS! Marie Kondo should be out in front, with a camera next to it.

Some expiration dates are just non sense. It is just marketing to convince the consumers to buy more.

Am I the only one that continues to use souvenir items afterwards, and remembers the trips that they come from?

Just in time. Moving next month!
No one touches my books. No one.
DONATE what is useable.
YIKES! Only a year for books!!!
I don’t worry too much about expiration dates. Tea bags? Really? Just use them up already.
