For the circular saw, set the blade depth (so you don't cut anything below and also its a safety factor) and get a finer tooth blade for finish products. 40 tooth for finish, 24 tooth for framing. The higher the tooth the smoother the cut. The lower the tooth the rougher the cut. From your a carpenter whose been doing this for 5 years and built her own bookcases/movie theater.
Be careful, if Tim does any more of those sexy poses like at 10:10 he might take over this channel hahaha. But in all seriousness you guys did a really good job working with the wood. Once the rest of the cabinets will be added they will add tons of structual support!
Yet another great vid! Thanks for sending them on the regular. There are some good tips below for reducing splintering with tape etc.. However, I suspect you are using the blade that came with that saw. If you upgrade to a finish blade all your dreams will come true. They ship those things with a kinda ok for most things blade of the lowest quality they can get away with. Stay awesome and see ya on the next one!
Great idea to put the "like and subscribe" reference halfway through the video! I've been happily following along without actually following. No more! :)
Looking good so far! I had no idea what a pocket hole screw was and when you said to Tim you had to tell him something, I was really worried you had screwed into the floor hahah!
Blue painters tape on the "splinter" side of the cut before you cut will prevent splintering. Also, Shara from Woodshop Diaries is the queen of pocket holes. Check out her channel. She is an amazing cabinet builder. Please watch a safety video on the circular saw. When a circular saw kicks back, people loose fingers and sometimes cut through their leg severing the main artery in their leg. Otherwise, keep up the good work. Best wishes on your project.
Thank you for sharing this. I just watched a very Australian man teach circular saw safety after reading your comment. Needless to say I’m glad I did! Thank you very much :)
Fantastic teamwork and cuts this week! None of this is easy, and you're making it doable with planning and taking things one step at a time. This will look amazing, and I can't wait to see the progress!
Slower on the skil saw, less splinters, also, if your real concerned tape the edges…put a piece of wood under your clamps…no dents into your new wood! You a building like a freaking rock star!!! 🎉
Very sore subject… I am on the verge of throwing those things off a cliff. I started staining another chair the other day…. Same stain…. Same everything…. And it absorbed only in a few areas. I’m really coming up dry here. I don’t know what to do 🙃

very good job! to cut the boards without the splitting, put masking tape before you cut. or i've hear, cut with the bottom/ugly side up.
I had never heard of the masking tape. Someone else just mentioned that too. That’s a great tip! Thank you I’ll have to try that out.
