Even if you forget about politics, this is just terrible music. Country music has good completely for shit. There is no country in this modern whatever it is. Aldean didn't write it, doesn't play lead guitar he just stands there with his skinny jeans, his "cowboy " hat and earrings. He's never lived in a small town and went to a private school. Makes a whole lot of money singing garbage that somehow is popular among people that enjoy mediocrity.

Born and raised in a town of less than 500. We still have our problems. But violent crimes are basically unheard of. It's hard to act a fool when everyone is on first name bases with each other's dogs. People talk and Sketchy people quickly get blackballed. Same with overzealous cops.

    • @lifeislife489

You don't hear any the violent crimes because small towns are good at keeping them as quiet as possible. When they do happen they are usually extremely violent, like putting a mother and children in a closet and setting them on fire. Crime happens everywhere, but mostly small town crimes are DUIs or stealing out of people's cars. Killings probably happen once or twice a year or once or twice every couple of years. The more outsiders move in the more crime will happen.

I'll tell you about life in a small town. People respect each other and care for each other, regardless of color or anything else. It's their community. Life in a small town is boring. But bring trouble to a small town-- come to harm or victimize, life quickly becomes less boring. You'll find people standing together on core common values of protecting each other, what they have, and standing for the weak. You want to be part of the community, welcome. You want to hurt others? There's a hog farm right up the road, and hogs eat more or less all of anything. ;) There's nothing hateful in this song, it's just an anthem on FAFO.

Small Towns are simple places where people just try to live a simple life. We mind our own business, don't tolerate any bullshit, and we always have each other's backs. Most people all grew up around each other as well. We all get along in a Small Town (race is not a factor at all).
A lot of people still keep their doors unlocked (at least until meth or opiates becomes a big problem in the area).
Most crime in small towns usually revolve around underlying drug activities, and that's about it.
I'd rather live in a small town over a city any day. The way of life is more wholesome.

My father unfortunately got hooked on drugs at 13 and lived a life of crime. He left the city to try armed robbery in a small town thinking he would get away and the local cops would never even know where to look for him. Those folks were not having any of it, and he ended up with a 30 year sentence. And btw he is as white as it gets. The critics of the video are desperate to make it a racial issue but it's not. Criminals will do what they can get away with. If the people get together and fight back against them, they will disappear. The big cities don't really enforce the laws like they should. Whether it is because they are short handed or apathetic, crime is much higher in cities. In small towns, criminals will stick out like a sore thumb and the locals will "take care of business"....if they have to.

I used to lived in L.A. and i now live in West Virginia. The biggest underlying difference is the mindset. Small communities tend to band together when faced with hardships and tragedy. People lean on and help other people. In the cities were most folks only know the people living on their particular block. So the mindset falls into a why isn’t the government fixing these things. When you believe the government is the solution to problems you are always going to end up disappointed, frustrated, and angry inevitably. So, long and short one group has a mindset of “what can i do to help make it even a little better” vs “why aren’t our politicians fixing this.”

Cosigning what she said- 6 and 7 gen N CA native born and raised with entire life here...
In the 60s and 70s, even in many parts of the SF Bay Area kids could play outside and go explore by themselves, neighbors kept an eye out, doors were often unlocked unless going to be gone from home for hours, troublemakers were known and dealt with one way or another, real parenting was expected not punished, law enforcement was community vs armored up in teams and in rigs, politicians and teachers were expected to be examples of decent human beings and do their jobs equally.
And color or foreign origins (or even from another part of the US!) meant nothing more than you might have an interesting history or family stories to share, were skilled in more than one language, or - and this was the game winner - homemade food we could taste and fall in love with.
All of this was definitely anywhere outside the immediate Bay cities, and with the added help each other and band up in crisis or disaster automatically for anyone.
Just like virtually anyone hitchhiking outside the big city zones was almost guaranteed a ride as leaving someone by the side of the road was an uncomfortable worry on you later.
People wrote and sang about the Flower Power in SF and Summer of Love in Berkeley, but truth was that friendly openness towards and trust of strangers was stronger outside the busy metro areas. And still is, even if picking up strangers has become not safe to do.
Not so much the cities as you well know. Sadly, even small cities here have that view now as the influx of metro types with their attitudes towards selfish and criminal behavior came with them.

That’s what small towns will do. In my small town 3 blm leaders came and told the Police Chief what he was gonna do or they would come riot. He told them in plain English what would happen to them if they showed up to riot. The “gentleman” left quicker than they came, never heard from them again.

I never came across Jason's music before hearing about "Try that in a small town" song" and all the cringe and fuzz. I think it's Amazing. The song voices the sentiment of many people across this country and from all races and backgrounds. Not just in small towns ... Even here in Los Angeles we can remember decades ago when riots happened.... Korea Town and the rooftop boys. Also a couple of years ago in the riots... When the mob advanced to hit Van Nuys they stopped on their tracks and did a U turn.... Why? Well, the neighbors standing with their tools ( if you know what i mean) outside their business and buildings... White, black, hispanic, Arminian and Asian brothers and sisters standing shoulder to shoulder...
also another interesting thing happened. The following days after the riots, many of the anti gun people that I know were standing in line to get in the local armories to try to buy their first one... Just saying.

We live in a small town. We look after each other.
Crime is basically drug related. I mean, how you gonna rob your high school sweethearts grandma when you mowed her lawn last week, and she had you over for dinner and made your favorite pie to take home to your family? You gonna car jack your 1st grade teacher knowing she came and took care of your momma when she got sick and you couldnt be there? Or maybe you wanna rob your best friend after he came and harvested your crops last year when you broke your leg and couldnt do it yourself? Rob the gas station? Thats the only place in a 20 mile radius that makes hot wings the way you like them...just for you. The girl working the counter is married to your cousin. Shes family. You really gonna shoot her for $50?
THATS how it is in small towns. Everybody knows everybody. You do something stupid, and your momma is gonna know about it before you get home. Nobody wants to deal with Momma when she is mad! And if you're an outsider, its even worse. You better hope the police find you before the locals do because the locals wont tolerate that kind of behaviour. Theyll beat it out of you or worse.
And...its not race related at all. Our small town is quite diverse. We watch everybodys back, no matter their skin color, because they are one of us.

Young fella….Not every place in CA is a big ol city. Small town CA way up north is where one would find comfort knowing this song is fitting. Folks take care of their own. Does not matter r@ce, color, s€x, creed, r€ligion, etc…. Just as that Veteran Farmer said; it’s exactly how it’s done in those small towns. If the big cities could only do the same as the local small towns….perhaps this world might someday be a better place. As a retired LEO I approve of this entire message that this song promotes. As it’s about a community that sticks together in times of need. Something that this Country desperately needs. I appreciate your content, your support for this project, and I hope some day you’ll be able to travel to small town Ca. Where you can wear a good ol pair of black jeans, a nice pair of boots, your favorite hoodie or flannel shirt even, and a felt hat. Yes, it gets cold enough to dress like that in small town CA. Stay blessed 😇

We respect each other, even if we don’t always like each other, or even know each other. We look out for each other. If something looks shady, we check it out. Crime is almost nothing besides some domestic disputes, few noise complaints, maybe some kids riding dirt bikes on private property or something but nothing major. This is NO lie, I haven’t locked my truck in years and I don’t even have a key to my house. If someone locked all my doors while I was gone I wouldn’t have a clue how to get into my house. Don’t even know where the keys are! Never had an issue. And if someone did try robbing the place while I was gone I KNOW my neighbor would come running, and I’d do the same for him.

DON'T LET THE TELEVISION OR ANYTHING ELSE SEPARATE US OR DIVIDE US . WE ARE NOT AS DIFFERENT AS THEY WANT YOU TO BELIEVE. GETTING ALONG, GIVING A SHIT ABOUT EACH OTHER AND HAVING RESPECT ISN'T HARD .

From little old Thomasville PA. We protect our own around here. All for one one for all round here. None of this crime would fly where I am from. Great people of all backgrounds and colors.
