Apparently, you have a bee in your bonnet about real women who don't share your views. Hmm... maybe learn to co-exist in peace or try to hear them out? You are doing nothing but just whining and rather badly.

    • @EmmaThorneVideos

Nah. Disagreeing is like, "I enjoy hats!" "That's cool, I do not". "If you're different from me you're not a real woman" or "we should take away women's right to vital healthcare", that's bigotry. Fortunately lots of people seem to enjoy my "bad whining" :) Wait... shouldn't you be co-existing in peace with me and hearing me out rather than insulting me?

Notable, I think, that a lot of these are to some extent class signifiers -- not inherently, necessarily, since you could own a cheap watch or plastic butter dish or whatever, but Abby certainly owns the upper middle class approved variant of basically every item on this list. I guess that's what "classic lady" really means -- white, upper middle class at minimum, conservative, and traditionally feminine.

    • @charcolew
      @charcolew 2 роки тому +18

Well observed and well-said. Each item has more symbolic than practical use. The ring-holder especially. It's a reminder of your status... but that's what the ring is for.

She is probably upperclass and nowhere near the middle. But generally there are cultural and aesthetic differences between classes so you make a relevant point. I don't think that's what being a lady is about. And your mom could have been referencing something else entirely as well, but I don't know your mom, so I can't say. But being a lady, when broken down, is more about about refinement; intelligent, charming, outgoing. Secure with yourself and your beliefs. Confident. A steady forceful presence that is on a higher intellectual tier than those around you. Put together, and seamless. It's not about throwing Baby into a corner.
I feel like rude and offensive behavior gets tossed around as "empowering" when you can get the exact same radical point across, without showing your ass. Basically, be girl Bond.

I'm going to be pedantic about the thimble right now: I'm a cosplayer and I make my own costumes so I sew a lot. I made myself a leather thimble because I find it more comfortable and I wasn't sure how to find a metal thimble in my size. YES thimbles are SIZED. Which leads me to my first point: Abby's thimble does not look correctly sized for her thumb. Nor is the thumb the correct finger to be wearing the thimble on, according to the immaculate Bernadette Banner: dress historian, Edwardian fashionista, and cunning witch (affectionate). Now, to be fair, I also wear my thimble on my thumb because I am a self taught sewist and I can't do a felled hem correctly, sue me. But shouldn't someone who's trying to be CLASSIC know something about CLASSIC and HISTORICAL sewing techniques?

The ringholder is a very coded thing. I've usually seen them sitting on the back of sinks in very traditional households where husbands don't do kitchen stuff (usually). Wives would take their wedding and engagement ring off so they didn't fall off into the dishwater. Meaning, to own one now is either intentionally kitch or signifying that gendered separation of the woman's place in the traditional family structure.

Do everything you can to help women not have unplanned pregnancies that will reduce the need for abortions which is better than outright banning them. Also I am pro social services to help support single mothers. It’s difficult for me to deal with the conservative side of ban everything and your on your own. It just seems to lack any sort of understanding of complexity. It’s also so lacking in compassion, I struggle to understand how such a position fits in Christianity.

This creates an interesting paradox. If women should be women, and men should be men, and this collection of things makes you more womanly...then men shouldn't get married to women or they'll end up "owning" these womanly things too which will turn them more feminine, and we can't have that happening. So...men should only marry men...oh can't have that either.
But if women marry women, they'll have twice the number of womanly things and become more feminine which is good, except we can't have women marrying women because that is wrong.
Also...does this mean that women that work in the factories where these things are made or sell them in shops are more lady like than women who don't work there? ....But Abby has issues with women working and having businesses...but if a man has a shop that sells all these things that is fine, except, now he is becoming more feminine...

This is exactly like listening to my 6 year old niece explaining the things in her dressing-up box. I kept expecting Abby to walk off set wearing a pair of her mother's stilettos 5 sizes too big.

Every single time I stop this video, Abby looks incredibly derpy. Tell me Emma, is this intentional? Do you know exactly when I will press the stop button and arrange it so that I die of laughter?
Even if not, this made my day. Thank you

Omg I love your pocket mirror!! It puts Abby's mirror to shame 😆
Lol I feel like a coaster is like a practical thing to have. Is that just me?

I happen to own all of these things. Most of them were presents. They are nice for anyone to have.

As a straight man, I own everything except earrings and I'm counting magnetic trays as a "ring holder" (except the perfume is labeled cologne) and never once considered any of them to be feminine. Knowing how to sew is a randomly valuable skill, I have a pair of thimbles and a sewing palm so I guess I'm extra ladylike?
