- Todd discusses how free a single fin feel can be. For those of you who haven't ridden a single fin before or think that it was just a 70's design that was obsolete when the thruster came along. It really isn't. It has its purpose. And it's a definite purpose that it's got. And that's to refresh your rail game, keep things free and easy and glidey, and it really lets you work on technique too. It's the type of thing where it's a technique-trainer without being a harsh schoolmaster.

That fin looks great fin design and placement is so important on single fins I'm 62 and grew up on them I like those shapes

Why do you go to a 70´s single fin shape? The last evolution of single fin was a 80´s McCoy Lazor Zap, why do not progress from this state of the art shape before thrusters came in? Makes no sense.
We build single fins of all sizes and various shapes designed to fit the needs and wave type of the surfer ordering the board.
The Lazor Zap is an extreme design suited to back for surfers. Most people struggle to get used to a Zap. It's not a board for beginner or intermediate surfers . I think the Bullet is a more neutral all rounder single fin. I love McCoy's and have a single McCoy but I would prefer the Bullet to the Zap for everyday use.
What makes no sense is your comment. Single fins, like all designs, have their place in surfing. Just because it doesn't work for you, doesn't mean the design is invalid, or that a thruster is better. Dogmatic approaches or ignoring history is extremely problematic and narrow-minded. Single fins are amazing boards in the right conditions.
