Just did a pattern where the "thrown ring" portion was a clover and my gaps were so bad! Seems like I just need to be firmer with my grip. Eager to try that same pattern again with this new knowledge and more practice under my belt. Thanks for your vids!

Tammy, I was just wondering if a thrown ring and a mock ring are the same thing? Could you use a mock ring in place of a thrown ring and would you want to?
thrown rings and mock rings are 2 different rings. I have never seen where a mock ring is used in place of a thrown ring except for in needle tatting as that is the way most needle tatters make a ring. You could try it and see if it will work. I would love to hear back from you on this if you do that. Happy Tatting
you can use the shoe lace trick to change thread colors or just tat continuous thread method with one color of thread. At the end of each element, ie. ring and chains, you will reverse your work to get the working thread in the right place. That is done in shuttle tatting unless the pattern states otherwise. If the pattern has DNRW that means you will use the top thread as the working thread and the bottom thread will continue being the core thread. Usually when DNRW shows up in a pattern it means it is a directional change rather than thread color change. I do hope that helps you. Thank you for watching and Happy Tatting
