Pure joy from my childhood! I had a Fireball XL5 toy that I used to explore the galaxy. I’m 67 years old, now, and my heart is still floating around out there and wanting to, ever so badly, make contact with an extraterrestrial intelligence.
I too have the series on DVD. I had never seen it before so it was brand new to me. 25 or 30 years ago somebody wrote in to the TV magazine asking to help them recall an obscure TV show. The reply was Fireball XL5. I was intrigued. Then I acquired a TV's greatest hits record. It had the theme song. I was intrigued. Then many years later I found the series on Amazon. I bought it. Glad I did.
60 years old but still great to watch, the first TV programme I can remember seeing even thorough I was only it stuck with me all these years still brilliant!!
I take it you mean that all Gerry Anderson's theme tunes were great, not that nothing else of his was any good. You can thank Barry Gray for the theme tunes.
Such a beautiful song! For those of you who don't know, Don Spencer is an Australian children's performer and usually sings songs about Australia, or an Australian animal. He was also a long running presenter on both the British and Australian versions of the children's show Play School. And in addition to that, he was the Father In Law of Russel Crowe.
I was very very young when this was on TV. I had completely forgotten about this. Thanks for reminding me of its existence. Puppet based entertainment is something I just vaguely remember.
I first heard this theme song on a TV theme song record. I wanted more. I bought the Fireball XL5 series on DVD. I wrote to Don Spencer, but he didn't write back.
This was a great remix on an amazing theme, these flicks as kids were the best thing since french fries ! i just Loved these series from the late great Andersson
Many moons ago (pun intended). I would wake my parents my at 5am on Saturday morning with the words... "Is it on yet?" "No...but you can go down stairs and turn on the TV." said Mom. "Why are you up?" Dad would ask. But he knew. They both knew. "Fireball XL5, may I?" "Keep the TV down until it comes on." And this is how I started Saturday's, waiting for Fireball XL5.... 60 years ago. Now when I can't sleep, I'll get on Amazon Prime and catch an episode or three. Fireball XL5 is still a fun watch.🙂😉
Children today wouldn’t understand having to plug the telly in each morning , as advice was to unplug each night, then turning it on 10 minutes before you needed it, to let it ‘warm up’
President Kennedy was assassinated on a Friday. That evening, upon seeing all the TV coverage of that very sad event, I became worried that Fireball xl5 wouldn't be on the next morning, which turned out to be correct. That was my loss of innocence.
I was at a nursery school, now called day care centers. We were playing after lunch. The proprietor called us in and turned on the television. She told the President had been shot and in less than an hour his death was announced.
This all seems so long ago now. I've not heard them get mentioned for years on British TV. None of the Gerry Anderson animations did much for me, as a kid in the 70's. Though I wasn't ever in to science fiction, space stuff. I don't like Star Wars, Blake 7 or anything like that. It's never been my thing. But what I do like, is they all had amazing theme tunes and I love that part about them LOL. Which is why I'm here.
But though I'm not a spaceman Famous and renowned I'm just a guy that's down to earth With both feet on the ground. 💫 It's all imagination🌟 I'll never reach the stars✨ My heart's still a fireball.... Every time I gaze into your starry eyes.🌙
65 years old now and still watch my DVD and VHS copies. I have made a dozen models out of used cleaning wipe cannisters and balls wood for my nephews and looking forward to doing g so again to any grand children...Steve Saturn kicks Han Solo and Captain Kirk off the flight deck!!!!!

I had one, too!!😊
I'm jealous but all the best 👍👍💯💯
I just bought the entire series on DVD-- and binged -- it was glorious fun !

This takes me back 60 years. A much better more innocent time. Fireball XL5 still magical, and what a fab theme tune. Wow the memories. Great times.
I'm always watching nostalgic programmes as such. Oh happy and transcendent times.
@Gary Twitchett Third! I'd be scratching around in the dirt outside and my mother would shout, "its on" and in i'd go.
Just discovered that Don Spencer is still active and performing in his native Australia.
He has a lovely voice-I loved this song then (and now.)
This takes me to my happy place when I was a kid. This show ALWAYS brings a smile to my face.
Back when kids were kids, and imagination ruled.
Watched this show as a kid in the 1960's.
Loved the show. So great to see there are so many other adult "children" who shared my enthusiasm for the show!
Just played this in my car through the Bluetooth, blasted it several times, really great sound quality! I was screaming all the words, love it 👍🍻
have a lovely day
The bass is absolutely savage on this version!!!💯👍👍
Classic tune!! I want this played at my funeral!!!💯👍👍😊😊
Yes, today this was played at my terriers funeral. Rex was my fireball and I would often sing this to him.
From simpler and happier times; great nostalgia.....
60 years old but still great to watch, the first TV programme I can remember seeing even thorough I was only it stuck with me all these years still brilliant!!
This seems like a million years ago. What a different place this was! I always loved this song.
A very very happy time of my life, thanks for the memory.
Gerry Anderson had nothing but great theme tunes.
Some shows were not very good.
I take it you mean that all Gerry Anderson's theme tunes were great, not that nothing else of his was any good. You can thank Barry Gray for the theme tunes.
This tune and the Captain Scarlet theme are absolute crackers!!👍💯👍
Sounds like the Cliff Richard 😮.
What a nice soothing voice.
No auto tuning required
Brings back great memories. I always wondered whose job it was to go out and fetch the undercarriage/bogie that was left behind when XL5 took off.
Lol
Same here 👍
Just turned 71 and Saturday mornings were filled with Bugs Bunny, Fireball XL5, and Supercar!!!!

Thank you for making me travel back in time to the best time of my life!!!

This song made it into the UK charts ! Love the robot on drums LOL 😀
I became a drummer because of that!
It could have been a big hit globally.
Thank you brings back great memories of the sixties when I was a kid 😊😊
The recessed lighting is the icing on the cake that still gives this song a futuristic feel and look.
Really great stereo. 😊😊😊
A LONG time ago a little lad was a great fan of Fireball XL5. The grown up still loves it. 😂
Absolutely magnificent. Loved the show and love the remix - well done!
Great show, so much wonderment and imagination. Non nonsense Steve Zodiak & beautiful Venus.
And Robert the Robot on drums!.....awesome😀
Made my day finding this, luv the song and characters.
Hearing this again has made me so happy!!
Takes me back to when i was a kid.
This is brilliant love all the characters watching the show
I first heard this theme song on a TV theme song record. I wanted more. I bought the Fireball XL5 series on DVD. I wrote to Don Spencer, but he didn't write back.
He's out there somewhere in the galaxy, when he gets back I'm sure he'll get back to you!!👍👍💯
This actually brought tears to my eyes.
This was a great remix on an amazing theme, these flicks as kids were the best thing since french fries ! i just Loved these series from the late great Andersson
For those of us who grew up in the '50s and '60s, we get to relive the coolest childhood any kid could have, all thanks to the internet.
God this takes me back to when I was a kid in the sixties and Robbie the Robot 🤖 caught fire every other week🌛🪐
Me hace acordar cuando tenia 8 o 9 años ¡que infancia tan feliz! ... mi corazon siempre sera una bola de fuego tambien ...
loved this as a child such innocence and long before CGI ...best was robbie the robot
I really fancied Venus when I was a young kid in the early 80's♥️💯👍
Definitely not a tootie.
Great seeing the characters from previous series in the balcony.
F. A. B.
Use to watch it on TV sometimes way back in late 70s as kids......😀
I love how the rocket ascending is perpendicular to the clouds around it! Haha!

President Kennedy was assassinated Friday 22 November 1963 the next day Saturday November 23 first shown of Dr Who.
I was at a nursery school, now called day care centers. We were playing after lunch. The proprietor called us in and turned on the television. She told the President had been shot and in less than an hour his death was announced.
Four days of pre-empted TV. All channels. Burke's Law was on the cover of TV Guide with a weekend of programming that didn't happen.
well done, nicely put together. My Heart would be Fireball. ✔✔💙💙
Loved this show when I was a kid - had a cat called Zooney and always hoped Steve and Venus would get married
My Favourite is when Fireball XL5 Takes off Brilliant!👍
A time when kids still had innocence and imagination - now lost forever, sadly
Back on the tele next month Yeaaaaaaaaa ! My ❤️ is a Fireball
Fireball XL5 was always my favourite program from Gerry Anderson.

As Buzz Lightyear would say:"To infinity... and beyond!!!" I love this.
To infinity ..and beyond !!!
I never realized before that much Star Trek was based on this show- and Fireball xl5 has the better theme song!

Today's question: Could they do a live action Fireball XL5? Or is that heresy?
This song hit in the UK and I wonder why it never played in the USA.❤
